Great products so far and my expectations have been exceeded. Poor reviews on the Tire rack web site but other web sites provide many positive reviews of this brake combo. That led to my decision to buy.

Rotors: DBA 4000 Series Rotor

January 25, 2012

The DBA rotors are of exceptional quality. I purchased the 4000XS model. In my brake system conversion they stop well in daily driving and show no fade when braking heavy from 150+ MPH to 40 MPH with average repeated use. For those of you using these on the track, they are intended for normal/heavy street use, not track. If you want true track rotors upgrade to the 5000 series and stop playing games. Consider the weight of your vehicle as well. Mine is nearly 5000 lbs. and the 4000 series rotors have stood up well without any cracking or overheating. Larger vehicles, such as trucks, may want to look into the 5000 series as well which will also help prolong the life of your bearings, a common failure on many models. In addition, anyone complaining of warping or brake shimmy your rotors were not installed properly. These rotors DO NOT WARP. The shimmy you get is from high and low spots on the rotor caused by uneven friction material transfer, especially when using ceramic formulations. This occurs when the rotors have excessive lateral runout (wobble), which may be as little as a few thousandths of an inch. You MUST clean your hub mounting surface for the rotor hat with a wire wheel or other device to remove rust and other debris, check the inside of the hat for uneven paint (if painted) and check for lateral runout with the rotor installed using the wheel lugs and proper torque specifications. If you do not follow these procedures and properly torque your wheels after installation the problems you are having are caused by YOUR FAILURE as a mechanic and not an inferior product. I ve seen people put new OE rotors and pads on a car without checking and have a pulsation in 3000 miles.

I purchased these rotors hoping to cure Acuras bad rotor problem with no luck. The initial performance was decent, but did notice a slight vibration after two months of running them on my car. It''s been about 8 months and its horrible. the steering wheel shimmies even in relaxed street driving. i will not be purchasing these again

As all of use that own Titans know we have had problems at the beginning with our front rotors warping of the OEM Rotors. Nissan did correct the problem and has had good reliability since then. I decided to replace the OEM Rotors with what I thought would be an improvement by installing High Performance Slotted Rotors by DBA, I did notice that they were much lighter in weight than the OEM Rotors when I replaced them, the OEM Rotor were still good and did not warp before I replaced them. After less than 5000 miles I noticed the same steering wheel shimmy as when the first OEM Rotors warped. I ended up replacing the New Rotors with the OEM Rotors I had on before the change with a new set of OEM Pads from the Nissan Dealer and have not had any problem since. The DBA Rotors are not heavy duty enough to install on a Nissan Titan which is rather evident due to their lighter weight compared to the weight of the OEM Rotors. Plus the DBA come with temperature sensing color tabs which did not change in color which would tell me they did not overheat. That was an expensive experiment with performance equipment which I will never repeat again.

I bought the drilled an slotted DBA 4000 rotors. They developed surface fractures very quickly on the front rotors. The fron driver side rotor finally failed with 3x hairline fractures that went through the entire wall of the rotor. The factory cross drilled rotors lasted longer. I switch looking for more fade resistance. I have very nice cooling ducts that feed the front and read brakes directly through high temp hoses.

I purchased these Hawk Performance Ceramics to replace AXXIS UKCeramic.

The AXXIS UKCeramics were great for stopping power but the pad material was too soft hence the pads were extremely dusty. But the Hawk performace pads on the other hand, are the best pads I have installed on this car. These Pads Stop better then the stock pads and much better then the AXXIS. If you are a spirited, are hard driver like I am then these are the brakes for you. I''ll state that it is as simply as this: buy these pads if you drive hard or like to push your vehicle. Hawks is the first Brand name for my car.

I bought these rotors to replace my stock rotors. They were fine for the first 3000 miles but after that I started to notice a brake shimmy when I applied the brakes. It has gotten so bad that when I brake the steering wheel vibrates really bad. I called tire rack and they told me to get the measurements to the rotors at a garage. The garage took the measurements and the rotors are bad already. I would not recommend these rotors to anyone. The stock rotors on my evo were better

I''ve been tracking my car for a few years always using plain rotors. Then, for some rediculous reason, I decided to try slotted rotors. First I tried Stoptech; they lasted me for a few track days, but not as many as plain OEM rotor. At that time, what I should have done, is go back to the plain OEM rotor, but instead I purchased the DBA 4000 Series rotors hoping they would last longer then OEM or Stoptech rotors under track conditions.

After about 1,500 street miles (highway miles when driving to road courses) and about 400 miles on a race track one of the rotors cracked. The exact same thing happened to my brother on his Subaru WRX.

My brother and I will NOT be purchasing DBA rotors or any slotted rotors in the future. So far plain OEM rotors seem to work the best on the track.

When I first installed these rotors they were outstanding - they met all my expectations untill they warped after only 20,000 miles most of which are highway miles. They can not be trued due to the slots. The shimmy is very noticeable in the steering wheeel under braking - to the point that I get comments from people who ride with me in the car. They will be coming off the car very soon and placed in the scrap steel bin!

While I don t drive my Subaru competively, I want maximum braking performance for safety. I put DBA slotted rotors on Sube s front wheels. Smooth, vibration and fade free performance. I ve got PBR Axxis Ultimate (ceramic/kevlar)Pads on my Sube,, front and rear, and they re outstanding performers. These Pads do wear faster than other ceramic pads but they re still great.

But the DBA Slotted rotors are second to none.

This is a really nice set-up for a street driven, or occasionally autoX d WRX. Noise is the same as stock, except when very slowly releasing the brake pedal, like when going down a hill, there is a slight shudder. Cold bite is excellent, even in sub-freezing temperatures. I did a really hard drive on a twisty back road, with lots of heavy braking and minimal cool down time between turns, and the pedal became slightly grabby near the end of the run, but pressure and performance stayed very consistent throughout. Overall, I am extremely happy with this setup and will replace these pads with the same again when the time comes.

Five HPDE weekend events and not one hairline crack on my OEM Z51 drilled rotors. Two HPDE weekend events on DBA 4000 s and they are already peppered with hairline fractures :-( What s worse? I called TireRack. They asked for pics. I sent them. The response, the manufacturer believes the cracks are caused by "Overheating" and hence NOT covered under wrranty. Hmmm... I checked those color heat indicators immediately after I came off the track and NEVER did the "Red" one turn white. Go figure. Though I was on the track, I never pushed the car more than 75%. IMHO ditch DBA, get the el-cheapo OEM rotors - they last a lot longer and cost a lot less.

I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE OTHER NEGATIVE REVIEWS MORE SERIOUSLY. PLEASE TAKE MY ADVISE TO HEART. IT WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY AND TROUBLE.

I installed the Hawk HP+ pads for a track day at Gingerman raceway. On the street these pads are perfectly acceptable from a safety perspective, however they do dust considerably (washes off easily) in a very short time and are very noisy under light braking pressures. Having said that, they performed flawlessly at Gingerman. We ran 20min sessions with speed exceeding 100mph with hard braking down to 30-40mph and these pads never showed any sign of fading. Our last session was a full 40min and they never gave up. Once on the track, they got very hot smelling and a little more pedal effort was required (more likely due to the elevated speeds), but once the adjustment was made the pads gave easily modulated fade-free stops time after time.

These pads are probably overkill for autocross and the street, but are perfect for real tracks. For Autocross/street I would highly recommend the Hawk HPS pads, which I run on an every-day basis and are completely silent with great cold bite and very low dusting. Either set of pads (HP+ or HPS) are far better for braking than most stock pads and do not leave pad deposits on the rotors which will lead to vibration (commonly called warpage, though it isn t).

I was looking for an alternative to the stock brake pad & rotor which was very dusty and had a bit too much initial grab for my preferences. The Tire Rack sales personnel helped me find an alternative that has a smooth brake pedal take up, with great stopping power when you step on it. I was also looking to find a "dust free" solution that did not require weekly cleaning of the front wheels. The solution was Hawk performance ceramic pads with dba 400 slotted rotors. I think the solution is perfect for my driving style. The dust is gone. The initial brake pedal take up is smooth, allowing for casual around town driving without giving everyone a mild case of whiplash. Brakes still stop great when needed. I had occassion to test them with an unplanned panic stop, and although a few feet longer stopping distance than the OEM, still stopped well short of needing to hit the ditch to avoid becoming #3 in a high speed pile up. The dBA rotors appear to be without wear, so perhaps these would last a couple of lifetimes under average use. Great recommendations, and great products. I am a satisfied customer.

I purchased these brake discs believing that the previous reviews, and the classification of The Tire Rack as a Street/Track item was real. The fact is that these brake discs broke from one side to the other under the temperatures of spirited track use. These are not track discs. The worst part of all is that because of the broken rotor, the factory Brembo calipers bolt screws were shaved, and therefore are useless. A $170.00 street/track brake disc has cost me not only its replacement, but also the cost of replacing the factory Brembo caliper. Total amount is about $1,200.00. DON T BUY THIS PRODUCT FOR ANY KIND OF TRACK OR AUTOCROSS USE!

Great combination of rotor and pad. These were installed in a 2003 Honda Odyssey. The original rotors were prone to fading and warpage. This is not the case. The braking from high speed is very smooth and there is no fade.We sometimes pull a trailer with a combined weight of approx 1500 lbs and there is absolutely no problem doing this. The subjective quality of the braking is a significant impprovement. I wish that DBA made rotors for my RAV4!

I bought the DBA 4000 series rotors and Hawk Pads after I warped the stock rotors. I drag race my car a lot. So slowing down from 115mph several times in a row can beat up the brakes pretty good. Simply put, these rotors and pads are awesome. There is never any fade. The car stops much quicker than it did stock. And there is never any noise and they don t produce much dust. This Cherokee has an autocross suspension and is driven hard daily. The brake pads and rotor setup works very well. The jeep stops hard and straight with a very good initial pedal feel. The brakes grab hard but remain very easy to control, there is no jerking or pulling feel. The pads dust a little more than I thought they would but less than the stockers.

I m a sportscar racer and use my Tundra to trailer my race car to the track. The pad/rotor combination is excellent. No noise no fade no vibration. I like in particular the slow city speeds, because the brakes don t grab but I feel them working nicely, the truck STOPS when needed. PS; bedding the pads/rotors in is of utmost importance -- pass this on. Thanks Fred Zimmermann

These pads are and slotted rotors are not noisy. They stop like oem on cold- normal to light stops. When stopping from high speed or down long winding mountain roads, there is no fade and they seem to grip much stronger the hotter they get. I had to adjust to the friction level of these pads because the first week or so, I was stopping well short of my intended stop. They are really nice pads and rotors. The dust is minimal. Very similar dusting to the oem which was very little as well.

I requessted advice to minimize rotor dust and to reduce brake "grab" when stepping on the brake pedal. I needed to replace both pads and rotors on my 2003 Infiniti G35 sedan. Tire Rack recommendations met my needs perfectly. I couldn t be more pleased with results. Dust has been eliminated, now I do not have to wash the wheels every Sat morning. I also wanted to eliminate the initial brake "grab" without minimizing brake performance too much. The Hawk performance ceramic pads have a smoother take-up as compared to the OEM brakes. I do not think they compromise brake stopping power very much, although they do not have quite the initial "bite". Thus for my "daily" driver needs, this appears to be a much better package. I went with the DBA slotted rotors, and do not experience any fade. As this wasn t an issue with the OEM set-up, I don t imagine I will see much performance difference as I don t track my car. I imagine the difference will be in the extended life these rotors would offer if I keep the car long enough.

Thank you for your expertise, and assistance.

The DBA Series 4000 Rotors replaced the stock Toyota rotors which were recommended to be replaced for the second time within 56,000 miles. I decided to upgrade the rotors and not waste money replacing with the same stock rotors which had warp and caused annoying pulsation during braking.

There was an almost immediate increase in stopping power without the annoying pulsation. I have notice a slight increase in brake dust from the Hawk LTS Truck/SUV pads, which was indicated in the information provided online. Cost was comparative to what was quoted by dealer. I would recommend this brake pad and rotor combination to anyone wanting to upgrade the stock brake parts.

The combination of Hawk HPS pads and DBA 4000 rotors is awsome. First and formost they are almost HALF the cost of OEM. OEM parts were going to run me $1260 for all corners, this set up through Tirerack cost me $760. Secondly they produce less brake dust and the color of the dust if more bronze then black which also helps reduce that brake dust look on the wheels. Third, they stop my ride now and I ve not experianced any squeeking either. In the end half the cost, equal or better performance and less brake dust. A GREAT buy!

2002 Subarus are noted for having warped rotors, very disappointing on such a quality car in every other aspect, Brake performance should not be a concern for the consumer in my opinion, After 2 sets of factory rotors (within 60K) and one set of rotors purchaced from my local parts store(that were already beginning to warp after 500 miles) I turned to Tire Rack who led me in the right direction with a rotor and brake pad combination that finally solved this issue for me once and for all, and didn''''t cost anymore than OEM, couldn''''t be more happier thanks again Tire Rack!
