Rotors: StopTech Cryo-SportStop Drilled Rotor

November 18, 2013

I purchased this combination based on a calculated risk of how these two components would work well together on a 2007 Toyota Tundra CrewMax. I felt that the StopTech discs would be fantastic with the cryogenic treatment, which they are. They re insanely good! I m near midlife and tomorrow I intend to measure the discs width to see what wear they have experienced. There is a significant buildup of brake dust in the drilled ports that I have needed to blow out with the compressor. The brake feel through the pedal is excellent due in part to the Hawk pads, and they heat up quickly and only fade, well beyond where a normal driver would take a vehicle like this one. In my case they didn t dust the wheels very much even with a drilled, relatively hard disc and the mentioned build up in the ports. Last week the rear axle received the same treatment at the front. Therefore on followup I will have an opportunity to share how each axle worked with this set up. Looks good so far!

Hawk S/D pads are the best I ve ever encountered. They are a little noisy & dusty, but the stopping power is OMG! better than any others I ve tried. Highly recommended where stopping power is tatamount.

Rotors: Power Slot Power Alloy Cryo-Treated Rotor

July 28, 2011

The cryo treated Power Slot rotors are the best I have ever used. I installed them with Hawk SuperDuty pads and followed the manufacturers procedure to the letter. Replaced all brake hardware except calipers at the same time. Carefully cleaned all mating surfaces and lubed all pad/caliper contact points and slides. The result; these brakes are going to go about 80k miles, no warped rotors, average dusting compared to factory pads, and minimal noise. About every 3-5k miles I will get a loud grinding in the front for a half day or so, then it just goes away and is quiet for several more thousand miles. This vehicle is extremely modified and tows a 10,000 lb trailer, sees street duty (30k miles per year) and does moderate off-roading.

If this combination was available, I d put it on every vehicle I own. Well, maybe not the Porsche (ceramic breaks) or the M5, but I d put them on the rest.

Great brake pads and rotors. I will definitely buy them again. One down fall would be that for about the first 2,000 miles the pads are a bit noisy and give off A LOT of brake dust. But that will not stop me from buying them again. I use these on my 2009 Toyota Tundra Crew Max 4 x 2 and love the stopping power!

The Hawk HPS pads and Cryo-Stop rotors have been a very good cost effective up-date. THe stocks would grab and lock-up during autocrossing. The present set-up is very quiet on the street with much less drust than the stock set up. Brake feel and control are very good. No more lock ups street or autocrossing.

Finally a combination that stops a Suburban. Great stopping ability. There is little dust, and they last much longer than what was put on at the Goodyear shop. They are at times noisy, but I will take this any day in being able to stop safely. Great combination for a Suburban.

Used rig, pads had lining left and was unhappy with breaking performance. Tossed the OEM rotors for 4 ATE PRM Slotted and a set of Hawk Super Duty Pads. Big improvement. Light pedal pressure bring me to a halt, a heavy foot stops this thing like my BMW. I''ll update the review in a few months after I haul the trailer over the sierra s into Nevada.

LET ME SUM IT UP FOR YOU LIKE THIS. THEY REMOVE THE FEAR OF MT. EAGLE WITH 23,000 LBS ON A GOOSE NECK AND A LITTLE HALF TON GMC WITH A V6. I NO LONGER HAVE TO RUN 25 MPH AND PULL OVER EVERY MILE TO MILE AND A HALF TO COOL MY BRAKES AND USE THE E-BRAKE WHEN THE FRONTS FADE COMPLETELY OUT. I RUN THE SPEED LIMIT NOW AND HAVE MADE 7 TRIPS DOWN THE MOUNTIAN AN 2 OF THE TRIPS WERE IN THE RAIN, I FELT CONFIDENT AND SAFE BEHIND THE WHEEL. NOW YOU WILL HAVE TO WASH YOUR TRUCK EVERY TIME YOU TOUCH THE PEDDLE AND SOMETIMES IT SOUNDS LIKE 1000 FINGERNAILS ON A CHALKBOARD AN YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE YOUR ROTERS A CUPPLE OF TIMES MORE THAN THE PADS-- BUT ROToRS ARE CHEAP FOR 07 HALF TON GMC!

This combination of Hawk super duty brake pads & Brembo slotted sport rotors is far superior to standard auto-store replacement and superior to the original stock brakes. The pedal effort is higher than stock, however lockup is much less likely as stopping is more controlled with this combination. (Note this truck is NOT equipped with anti-locks, my preference) These brakes work much better with my rear combination of Kevlar shoes with stock drums, and balances the braking effort better across all four wheels. Almost as good as having BMW brakes on a full size truck!
