When the air leveling system finally went out on my 4.8is, I decided to replace it with a good setup of springs and dampers. The ride quality went down significantly, but that was to be expected, I m used to it now and happy with the result, but it is firm. The performance increase has been great overall. Lowered enough to improve performance and look good, it looks factory with plenty of travel to hammer around city streets, construction, etc. The dampers were a huge improvement in body control. The stock setup would get over whelmed when I would hammer on it, now I have to really be getting crazy for the setup to loose control of the body, and its not a light suv. At 9/10ths it manages itself very well for a 6000lbs suv with regular triple digit offramps/onramps and tight back road hammerings, its fun to drive. I can make use of the 275/315 spec Conti DWS (great tire, highly recommend), I can still tow boats, blast through snow storms, etc. This setup also did a lot to help cure the inherent wallowing understeer, as did -2.5 deg camber at all 4 corners . Its a great setup if you want to drive your suv hard. If I were to do it again I would consider whether or not I really need to go this fast in an suv. I might go for Touring dampers instead of HD s in the name of comfort and ride quality, but def keep the HR Sports, if you drive in the fast lane its the right spring to have.

The springs were of unacceptable quality. The indicated lowering was 1". The actual drop was closer to 3". There was no suspension travel and the springs were coil bound to the point 4 coils were touching in the front. Numerous calls and emails with both Tirerack and H&R insisted there was no issue with the springs. After numerous photos and installs I was eventually refunded ONLY the price of the springs after Tirerack shipped the springs to Germany for H&R analysis. I am out time and labor of both installs and the cost of two alignments as a result. I was completely dissatisfied with the level of service I received on this transaction. Had this been my only transaction with Tirerack I would not have come back. I hope this transaction is a minor glitch on what has been an otherwise great business relationship.
