well balanced setup for street driving, highway commuting, and sporting drives in the county. Soaks up bumps well, does NOT bounce when hitting dips, and still manages to maintain a comfortable ride. The ride is much firmer than stock and there is some extra vibration transmitted into the chassis and rear view mirror. This makes the ride "busier" but my wife actually likes the feeling better than the stock suspension. Cornering is much better than stock. No drama in any sort of transition, very predictable. A worthwhile and inexpensive upgrade. -- Review submitted: 2013-08-24

I ve had this kit on my car now for about one month but put plenty of miles on it so far. It lowered my car the exact amount I was looking for. Enough to improve cornering but not a huge sacrifice in ride quality. Yes, there is a noticeable difference compared to stock, and you will feel bumps in the road more. But the trade-off is well worth it. I would recommend this kit to anyone looking for a mild bump in performance without breaking the bank and losing the ability to drive it everyday. -- Review submitted: 2013-07-25

The only other item I had to research for my application was 2mm spacers because these front struts were made for newer civics with larger knuckles and strut bolts. Another note which is important is that you MUST use lowering springs for these struts. NOT factory. These ARE shorter than stock to accomodate shorter springs. Bilstein is the best in the business in my opinion! -- Review submitted: 2013-07-15

the Bilstein Sport shocks are a BIG improvement in handling to the stock shocks,(I purchased front and rear). But they are not super firm in my opinion, while driving autocross and track days they make the car feel more manageable for sure, and i think they are still ok for regular street driving, bumps and cracks in the road are definitely frlt now more than stock but the car is much more responsive. The car still has a decent amount of body roll when driving it hard into corners, something firmer would still improve handling at autocross or the track. overall i am happy with the versatility of these shocks. -- Review submitted: 2013-07-05

If you want to autocross then then go for this option. I just removed my one year old Eibach pro kit and was so happy that I did. Huge improvement over prior system with the new springs and sway bars. Even the Dodge dealer mechanic who installed them was impressed with the easy instructions to use and the much thicker diameter metal over what was installed previously. -- Review submitted: 2013-03-22

I first installed the H & R lowering springs using the original rear shocks. Big mistake. The shocks lost all fluid within the first 500 miles of driving. I ordered the Bilstein s and put them on and could not be happier. Wow, what a difference in comfort, performance and safety. I did not feel the car was safe to drive with the new lowering springs using the OE shocks. Driving over 50 miles an hour was like riding a bucking bronco! I cannot wait to change out my front struts as these are new OE and they do not like the lowering springs at all. -- Review submitted: 2012-08-31

Contrary to customer support advice, I purchased mixed suspension components - Bilstein Sports for the rear, Koni adjustable for the front; admittedly, price and brand reputations were important deciding factors here. They warned me about potential side effects of installing non-matching shock units... however, Honda CR-V is not a sports coupe or anything of that kind, so I largely ignored those (possibly, liability-induced) "warnings". All I wanted was high quality shocks at decent price, and that purpose was more that achieved. I, probably, shall not comment how much better (if anything) this shocks combo is compared to OEM, as OEM s were well worn out by the time or replacement, giving me mushy and uncertain ride and handling. Still, I don t experience any meaningful adverse handling effects, that should be attributed to these shocks. Not sure, if there is such a thing as break-in period for shock absorbers... at first, they seemed to be a bit harsh on small bumps (still are) and bad pavement - then, I either got used to the feel, or maybe they smoothed out a bit. Recently, I got very positive comments on how smooth and comfortable the ride is, compared to some other (well, admittedly crappy) cars, running on all OEM suspension. Most of the time I have Koni s at 3/4 s,as it seems to yield best overall handling/ride balance... I should rate this whole purchase as one of the best values overall, considering that Bilsteins are even cheaper than OEM s, and Koni gives me some extra space for refinement. Great combo for both everyday commute on decent roads and long distance travel, done somewhat spirited style. -- Review submitted: 2012-06-13

Improved on the original handling and suspension greatly (which was already fantastic, just too plush in OEM form). I would also recommend (for the entire E34 chassis class) the 750i front strut rods (bushings installed - OEM parts) with this setup - gives MUCH greater front end rigidity. Car rides fantastic, and the handling will surprise you - even in this hi performance chassis. I also added BMW accessories catalog 17x8" 6 spoke wheels and Pirelli SS tires, and slotted rotors with EBC brake pads and hi-temp fluid. Make sure to check your mirrors before you hit the brakes with this combo - stops like a roller coaster at the station. -- Review submitted: 2012-04-07

A little disappointed the vendor I purchased the rear shocks from is no longer around and I can t find the receipt after all these years, otherwise they would be replaced at no charge with Bilstein s life time warranty. As for the shocks, they ve held up pretty good considering mileage driven. The front struts are still holding up great! -- Review submitted: 2011-10-16

Very, Very firm ride. After reading many reviews I am beginning to believe that it is my tires that are makeing my ride uncomfortable, not my struts/shocks. I will write another review after I have installed new tires. With that in mind, on the twisties up the mountain, taking a freeway onramp too fast, stopping, acceleration, and performance capability has increased since i have installed them. I absolutely love to take the car on nice long drives through the twisties in the nearby mountains and canyons. Every corner is a pleasure as I notice that I am taking it at least 20 mph more than i did before... with the same comfort. I didnt expect great ride comfort buying a sport shock/strut, but i did expect a lot better than this. It is very harsh, and every bump is felt. I believe that it is my tires making the ride so uncomfortable, not the shocks and struts. I am VERY VERY excited for the new tires so I can utilize the performance of these shocks. I will write a follow up review on the struts after the tires explaining if it was in fact the tires, or if it was the struts/shocks. -- Review submitted: 2011-05-19

The H&R Sport lowering springs are excellent for a daily driver. I also auto-x my car with these springs and its a lot of fun. Would highly recommend. The Bilstein Sport Shocks are very nice as well. The ride is firm but not harsh, and the shocks are confidence inspiring. The yellow paint/coating is rather thin so be careful during install not to rub/scrape any of it off. -- Review submitted: 2011-03-14

i love the way my BMW drives but this kit here totally brought back the life in this car. the stance it is at now makes the car look very agressive. it handles sooo much better than the stock setup (Previously was belstien). love it. im getting the eibach anti-roll kit and the TR motorsport C1 Wheels for it next. -- Review submitted: 2011-02-04

My old BMW allways handled well and was fun to drive. My expectations were met with H@R spring kit. It gave my cat a nice low stance that looks agressive and handles curves the same way.

Turn in is much more positive and the car feels as if it is anchored to the road. The H@R springs did not seem to make the ride much harder over bumps like some other company''s do but wheel fallout over seams is a bit harsh.

Overall I love theese springs and dampers. They took the ride to the next level of fun. -- Review submitted: 2010-03-28

I paired the Blistein sport shocks to the H&R sport springs. It''s about 20% more stiffer than the OEM sports package suspension; good for smooth highway driving but not when your streets are bumpy or have holes in them. The setup gave me something to think about at firm due to its stiffness. But after 2000 miles of driving, it feels more settled, acceptable and I don''t think about it. So I''m happy now. Perhaps I would have gone with the Bilstein and OEM springs as I think that would give it a more comfortable factory tuned ride but no change in wheel well gap . Either setup would have worked for me. -- Review submitted: 2010-03-25

Initially installed the eibach pro kit springs with the stock shocks which lowered the car and gave it a nice stance but the ride felt too "soft and floaty". This was probably because my original shocks soon blew out after installing the springs so I decided to shop for replacement struts and shocks. I''ve had matched Koni yellow adjustables shocks and springs in the past on a VW Scirocco which handled great but the ride was very stiff even on the softest setting. I didn''t want to sacrifice ride comfort for handling this time though. I was hesitant to go with Bilstein sports at first because I''ve read on several online forums that they typically rode harsher than Koni. But, after reading Tire Rack''s review of Bilstein-Eibach combo,I decided to give the Bilstein sports a try.

What a difference it made! I didn''t realize how much the ride had deteriorated. The Tire Rack review was quite accurate and very helpful for me. My new setup feels only 10% to 20% stiffer than stock from what I can remember. Overall road feel is fantastic and bumps are absorbed really well. The car is my daily driver and feels like it was new again but with a little better handling this time, and a ride that is not very harsh at all. I''m very happy with the Bilsteins and should have done this a long time ago. -- Review submitted: 2010-02-15

I drive a 1999 SAAB 93 around everyday to work, to other states, to the grocery store. I like a car that can corner. My SAAB was not that car. I added a thicker rear anti-sway bar 22", and Eibach (front & rear) Springs 1.4" lower, and Bilstein Sport Shocks. The car feels so different it is incredible. I was beginning to give up on front wheel drive. I was one signature away from buying a BMW the week before these arrived, but I decided to keep my car and try a few suspension upgrades. Boy I am glad I did. The car scoots around corners like a go-kart. The steering feel has changed somehow. It''s heavier and easier. Now the limiting factor is tires. I am completely happy with the way the spring rate, lowering (although I almost want lower another .5-1 inch), and the dampening is perfect. I would compare these dampeners to something in a wrx sti or maybe a honda civic si. But, when you keep the stock 15" wheels and big cushy Toyo Versado luxury touring tires, this thing doesn''t give as stiff of a ride. And, the traction isn''t as good either. However, when it comes to wipping down back roads in windy new england, the saab has transformed from a nausea-inducing arm sore into a confidence-inspiring whip. This is a moderate modification, that keeps the original intent of the car for a person who likes to drive there everyday car hard. A gentleman''s car that is comfortable, sporting, and driven everyday. -- Review submitted: 2009-11-30

Been smiling since the first ride I took with the new suspension. Was worried at first because it''s my daily driver, but I am really happy now. Everything is balanced well. Tighter, but not too stiff. Lowered, but not too low. Best of all, I had my girl with me all day after the install, and she had no clue!! Fantastic shocks. A bit bouncy on rebound but that''s my only and albeit minor complaint. Coupled with h&r springs the ride is significantly stiffer but still relatively supple for a lowered car. Cornering ability is vastly improved and they seem to take a beating with no signs of wear. -- Review submitted: 2009-03-16

I wanted to firm up the suspension on my CLK430, and the ad stated the ride comfort would not be far from stock. I was expecting a firmer ride, but the ad statement was way off! I did the same mods for my nissan z using the Tokico/Eibach combo and the ride was not as harsh as the H&R/Bilstein combo. Definitely not a good combo for a daily driver. I probably should have gone with the OE sport springs with the HD shocks. BTW, I also purchased new stock shim perches to go along with the springs and shocks. -- Review submitted: 2009-03-02

I installed the H&R Sport springs on my 96 A4 with the Bilstein Sport shocks/struts. I had to replace the rear shocks after 15k miles because they flat out broke. They some how lost all oil and gave no damping or rebound. I don''t know what happened, but 15,000 miles doesn''t seem like a lot for shocks to last. -- Review submitted: 2008-08-22

I discovered that 3 of my 4 shocks/struts were blown so I had to replace them (thanks San Francisco streets!) The debate wasn''t whether to go Bilstein or not but whether I should go HD or Sport. I was afraid the Sport was going to be too harsh as I have read.

Anyways, if you have the BMW Sport Suspension package on your car, you will be pleasantly surprised by the Bilstein Sport Shocks. They soak up bumps very well and do not shake your fillings out. The suspension is definitely stiffer which is great and the Bilstein quality will set your heart at ease.

If these Bilstein s somehow blow out soon, I will buy them again in a second. -- Review submitted: 2008-08-14

The eibach sway bars were installed on the vehicle when I bought it. They totally change the dynamics of the vehicle all together. The car handled like it was on rails, even on busted shocks and struts. I recently insatlled bilstein touring shocks and now the car feels like a Formula 1 car. The handling is so good; it is scary. My friends cringe when I want to drive anywhere that I can "let it loose", they simply hold on for dear life. Interstate exits and entrances at 90 mph are common place. If you want your vehicle to handle, install these, you won''t be disappointed. -- Review submitted: 2008-08-02

The car hits hard on any road imperfections. It s too hard for my preferences. I called Tire Rack to get an exchange, even with a restocking fee, but to no avail. I m pretty bummed now. If I was on the track, they d be ok. But for a daily driver, they re too firm and uncomfortable. I''m extremely happy with the Bilstein Sport Shocks on my Passat.

I selected them over the Koni FSD and Koni Sport for really strange reasons.

I used Edelbrock variable valve shocks on my truck and I hate them. Yes, they adjust automatically, but always seem to make the wrong choice. The truck wheels stay planted to the ground, at the expense of the occupants. I was afraid the FSDs would be similar. The Koni FSDís may be a great product, I''ll never know. I didnít want the Koni Sports because they can be adjusted. The shock mounts on a Passat will not allow access to the top of the rod. I would always second-guess the setting selection. The OCD half of me would always wonder if all four were still set the sameÖ

I was looking for a shock that would be stiffer than the VW OEM shocks, but would not mess up the ride quality. The Bilstein Shocks are performing exactly as I wanted. The ride is comfortable. The car handles great over bumps, curves and hills. Iím using the OEM springs. -- Review submitted: 2007-06-24
