The lift and level kit evened out my front end with the rear so that it no longer sags. Great product however on my 01 Chevy truck you must purchase a special tool to allow you to easily chsnge the torsion keys. The cheapest I found it for was close to $140. -- Review submitted: 2012-11-01

My truck was truck was shaking a whole lot whenever I would hit little bumps and would roll a lot into corners. First, I had replaced the front shocks with these. Big improvment. There was no nose dive whatsoever. I would corner even faster. About a month later, I changed my rear and that made the truck ride like a brand new truck. My truck has 20 inch rims and it rides better than stock. With the 275 55 20, i could corner quicker and with these monomax, i have little to no body role. At first when the shocks were first installed, they were very very stiff. But after a couple weeks of driving, they soften up but still do a great job at dampening the ride. I will always be a proud owner of a truck with kyb monomax shocks on it. New shocks make suck a big difference. I am nearly 300 pounds, 6 4, and when i stood in the bed of my truck, i use to be able to bounce the truck and shake it side to side. Now that is impossible to do with the KYB monomax. All in all, great investment to enhance your ride. And lastly, when going over a rough road, the wheels do not hop anymore. They stay settle and planted. -- Review submitted: 2011-07-19

Replaced what appeared to be the stock shock units on my Frontier. The KYB s made a huge difference, but considering that the truck really needed shocks bad, I m guessing anything would be an improvement. Overall, the shocks took the Baltimore city pot holes pretty well and provided a smooth ride on the highway. If I had to complain, I would say they were a little too soft. Jumping in the bed of the truck, the rear suspension moved more then I thought it should, but that could just be me being more used to a full size truck versus the Frontier. I would be interested to feel a comparison between the KYB and a set of Bilstien s. -- Review submitted: 2011-01-26

Great Shock! I replaced my Biltsteins with these MonoMax, they were a little stiff at 1st, but once they''re broken in look out. No more body roll,no more rear end kicking around when you hit a bump, no more hop when pulling out, no more tires spinning when pulling out on a turn on a grade! I like them a lot! -- Review submitted: 2009-11-18

I just put the KYB Monomax on my 2005 Jeep TJ Unlimited. Amazing difference. They keep the ride height level when loaded in the rear. They are much stiffer, but a nice difference under most driving conditions. The reason for replacement was bottoming out with the old shocks, and when bumps hit only one one side, the Jeep rocked right to left a lot, jossling the passengers and gear a lot. Now it rides more like a pick-up in terms of ride stiffness and load capability. Cornering is much more level, nose dive is significantly reduced and the truck actually sits higher by about a half inch on the front, and 1 inch in the rear. Not sure why, perhaps they are stiff enough that they are holding some weight. The KYB look cool, they are an orange-red colour with stickers for them if you like. They have a larger diamater, but that doesn''t interfere with the setup at all. They have numerous parts and features that are significantly higher quality than the stock

twin tubes that I removed. My original shocks had 100,000 on them and when removed, I could flex and extend them with one hand.

The new Monomax took two people to compress them. The installation was very easy and they fit perfect. I have had them for 3000 kms so far and love them. The ride is rough now as in stiff, but it was always rough and the suspension bottoming out was becoming a problem. We are skiers and cottagers and with the gear we haul often, the higher quality monotube shock is making a big difference. That is my two sense, hope it helps! -- Review submitted: 2009-11-08

Going on a long road trip and the Bilstein''s were past 40K miles and about time to go. Wanted something softer than the Bilstein shocks for a more comfortable ride.

These KYB MonoMax are smooth. Very comfortable ride, very nice handling, BUT if you''re going from a Bilstein setup to this, like I did, you''re going to have mixed feelings. The comfort is there with no harshness, but the performance is a downgrade. The Bilsteins were awesome for cornering, and driving a 4500LB truck like it was on an autocross track, but they were rather stiff for those days when you just wanted to have a soft ride.

I wish I could have a guy in my garage swap shocks daily for the type of driving I want to do.

I had a set of Edelbrock IAS, good all around, went bad in 10K miles.

Bilsteins went 40K and possibly more, gave me some incredible white knuckle joy rides, but were bone jarring when I didn''t want them to be.

All were better than OEM shocks. I think I would get the KYB''s again since I''m not driving the truck so hard anymore, and will probably get me a speed box for that. -- Review submitted: 2009-05-21

I installed the KYB Monomax shocks on my stock 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 extended cab in 2005. On my Dodge truck, the ride firmness was greatly improved (amazing actually) without being too firm. I now have about 40K on the shocks and tires and with the tires wearing down, the ride is a bit harsh. So currently, I am tire shopping.

I highly recommend these shocks for anyone wanting a firmer ride and better handling. If you have a mushy riding truck, this is the cure.

Side note: I was at the Outer Banks and thought I would try some beach jumping. These shocks handled it great, probably got 4 feet of air several times. Only broke the front axle vacuum actuator line. -- Review submitted: 2009-04-29

KYB shock are a great quality shock that I have used for over 10 years. This was my first time to use the Monomax shock however. At first the ride was more stiff than I wanted. But after a few thousand miles they calmed down. Now I have minimum body roll and excellent handling and steering response. I would absolutely recommend these shocks for someone looking for a firmer and more stable ride. -- Review submitted: 2008-08-05

I replaced my factory shocks with these Monomax at 192,000 miles -- needless to say the old ones could hardly qualify as shocks any more. When I first drove with the Monomax shocks, the ride felt way harsh -- every little thing in the rode seemed like a speed bump. Now, however, I think they have smoothed out a little (or I have gotten used to it) because I do not notice it anymore and the improvement in the ride and handling is amazing. I should have changed them long ago (obviously...)

I am very happy with the shocks and with Tire Rack -- I could not find a better price anywhere and the sales guy I talked to was very helpful. If you have a same generation 4Runner as mine, you will see that Tire Rack only has a selection for 4Runner 4WD when you go to the shocks area -- but mine is 2WD. I was pretty sure the shocks for each were the same, but I called sales just to be sure. The sales consultant confirmed that the shocks were correct for my 2WD and got the order all squared away for me and the shocks arrived less than 5 days later. I have never ordered tires online before, but the next time I need them I will seriously consider Tire Rack thanks to the good experience with the shocks.

They were very stiff in the begining but after a few thousand miles they seem great. They seem to ride better with a load in the bed of the truck. The fronts still seem stiff and I would like a smoother ride but, the roads here in New England stink and I feel confidant that they will not fail. I had issues with one of the rear shocks that had a defect but, Tire Rack fixed that and I was back up and running in no time. I would recommend these to anyone looking for an upgrade for a value. Great product.

The rear end of my truck bounced like an old buick since new, especailly when towing. It was so bad that people in the back seat got nausea. The truck has the z85 suspension package, which is useless! I put the Monomax on the rear to see if they d help. The difference is dramatic. A HUGE improvement, I highly recommend them. I have a 2WD Eddie Bauer Expedition. I drive off road frequently when I go to the woods. My truck used to ride like a monster truck with the stock Goodyear Wranglers and stock shocks. I changed the tires to Michellin ATX M&S and the KYB Mono Max shocks....the truck now rides GREAT! Almost no body lean, no bouncing around on the dirt roads and city driving is much more stable and fun.

I liked these so much that I found a set of the KYB GR2 s for my other car and they are great too.

KYB sure knows what they are doing.

Good luck!

At 160k I had the OEM shocks. They were literally rusting apart. I put KYB Monomax s on. Finally the truck does not bottom out over bumps any more. It also has a large gain in cornering stability. People complained these are too stiff. Not so, they loosen up over a couple thousand miles. I m happy. I could probably even take an even stiffer ride, but I m not about to dump more money into my cheap truck. I recommend these to anyone looking to replace OEM shocks. -- Review submitted: 2007-02-19

I bought the KYB Monomax shocks to replace my stock shocks with over 130K miles on them. These shocks are great! Body roll is dramatically less, and the ride over rough surfaces is much smoother (rough roads, gravel roads, railroad tracks etc.). The car just feels much tighter, as opposed to the previous soft bouncy ride. However, I can see how those who only do highway driving with their truck or SUV may find these shocks too stiff. My 4Runner works all year (4wd in winter, towing boat, towing trailer) and therefore I have a different perspective. Overall, great shock, great purchase, and you canít beat the lifetime warranty. -- Review submitted: 2005-11-23

These shocks and springs were a suspension update to my 4runners sagging rear and blown shocks.

Eibach Springs: The springs have been a great upgrade as they got rid of the rear sag that tend to be problematic on these vehicles. -- Very good upgrade!!!

KYB Shocks: The shocks seem to be much to firm for the vehicle. They have a very harsh ride and will somtimes cause the front end to "jump" into the air when driving on lumpy surfaces. -- Unsatisfied; I ll probably buy bilsteins next time. -- Review submitted: 2005-11-09

I replaced a set of monroe gas-matic plus shocks that had over 50K miles on them with the KYB monomax s. I had some cupping tire wear and slight steering shimmy and thought the shocks were to blame. Turns out the old shocks were fine as the steering shimmy is better but still there, I will have to re-visit tire balance etc.. The handling has however improved a great deal with the KYB s at a very slight expense in ride harshness. Very nice steering response and brake feel now. -- Review submitted: 2005-11-08

Since the car had 20" wheels the ride has been deteriorated. i tried Bilstein but they made the ride too stiff and I returned them. I had on some Edelbrock and they worked nice, but then I decided to lower the SUV with some Eibach springs 1 1/2 inches. Since then the Edelbrock shocks were not up to the task of controlling the bounce from the stiffer springs. I decide to try these shocks and I am in love with them. They control the bounce so much better and improved cornering. Being a fan of Bilstein for sports cars, I would now recomend these shocks for the person looking for a great upgrade for that SUV. I probably still recomend Bilstein for that european sport sedan. -- Review submitted: 2005-08-24

I bought these shocks to replace my old worn out stock ones. I thought I d get some "off road" shocks because they might handle better when I drive off road and on unpaved roads. Well, these shocks are so stiff its almost unbearable. You can now feel every small crack in the road and small bumps. Rear shocks and air springs have been installed for about 8 months. The front shocks, with a tweak of the torsion bars, have helped the off road ride and handling of the vehicle. -- Review submitted: 2004-10-01

What a way to bring a truck back to life! These KYB Monomax shocks brought the spirit back to my 4X4. I drive in all conditions, tow a boat, and these shocks stiffened my 4X4 up better than new. Best purchase I have made for a long time. -- Review submitted: 2004-08-18

I own a 1996 Nissan XE King Cab with over 73,000 miles on it. The truck was not very stable at all. It had pronounced body roll, brake drive and acceleration squat, so I decided to replace the OEM shocks to see if that would help. I ordered the KYB MonoMax shocks after reading the reviews and doing some research on the web. I ordered them from The Tire Rack based on price, $50 less than a local dealer for a set of four, and on the rave reviews the company always gets in Car and Driver. What a difference the KYB MonoMax shocks made! The brake dive has been practically eliminated. The acceleration squat is gone and the body roll is considerably lessened. I ordered the shocks on the 13th and they arrived before noon the next day. The installation was straight forward and took me about 1 1/2 hours to complete. What great service from The Tire Rack! I highly recommend these shocks to anyone looking for an upgrade from OEM shocks and I highly recommend The Tire Rack for their prompt and efficient service. -- Review submitted: 2004-07-14

I replaced my worn out stock shocks with new MonoMax shocks from KYB. Installation was easy and straight forward. When I hit the road, I could definitely feel the improvement, in both performance and ride quality. I now have a reborn passion of driving my Dodge truck, especially on curvey freeways and corners. Cornering is more stable but small bumps at any speed is more noticeable. -- Review submitted: 2004-06-16

Major change in vehicle performance on rough dirt roads. Noticably tighter feel on all road surfaces with more precise steering and less initial body roll on corner entry. Stiffer valving on both jounce and rebound than most other shocks. Excellent choice. -- Review submitted: 2004-06-14

KYB Monomax shocks greatly improved the handling characteristics of my 1999 Acura SLX. The MonomaxŅs reduced brake dive and cornering lean while improving ride quality. A highly recommended upgrade for the Acura SLX and sister Isuzu Trooper. -- Review submitted: 2004-05-22

the kyb shocks/struts made a huge difference in the ride quality of my car. my original ones were shot and the massive lowering made the ride horrible but the kyb shocks/struts fixed that. -- Review submitted: 2003-01-29
