The Mud-Terrain T/A KM ("KM" stands for Key benefit Mud traction) is BFGoodrich's Off-Road Maximum Traction light truck radial designed for pickup and sport utility vehicle driving enthusiasts looking for race-proven, off-road performance. The Mud-Terrain T/A KM is designed to deliver aggressive good looks along with serious off-road traction and steering control on slick surfaces, as well as in deep dirt and mud.
The Mud-Terrain T/A KM features an advanced tread compound molded into a symmetric tread pattern comprised of large interlocking center tread blocks and alternating width "DiggerLugz" that extend over the tire's shoulders to provide the clawing necessary to dig down, as well as work against the sides of muddy ruts for added pulling power. The computer-optimized, high-void tread design generates less noise than BFGoodrich's original Radial Mud-Terrain T/A, and provides a larger and more rectangular footprint to further enhance rock climbing and slick surface traction. The Mud-Terrain T/A KM tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts on top of BFGoodrich's TriGard (3-ply polyester cord sidewall plies) construction for strength and durability. Single strand beads (a single strand of bead wire is continuously wrapped multiple times until the desired strength is provided) enhance the tire's fit to the wheel to improve uniformity and ride quality, while rim protectors molded into the lower sidewall help shelter the tire and wheel from off-road hazards, especially during aired down situations.
While Off-Road Maximum Traction tires are branded with the M+S symbol and able to churn through deep snow, their typical oversize applications and the absence of snow-biting sipes in their large smooth lugs can challenge their on-road wintertime traction on packed snow and icy surfaces.
El neumático Mud-Terrain T/A KM de BFGoodrich pertenece al segmento de Tracción Máxima Fuera De Carretera para camiones ligeros y fue diseñado para conductores entusiastas de picops y utilitarios deportivos, que buscan un rendimiento que ha sido probado en carreras y situaciones todoterreno. El diseño del Mud-Terrain T/A KM ofrece una apariencia agresiva, a la vez que, proporciona una tracción confiable, mayor control al girar, tanto en superficies lisas, como en superficies con bastante polvo y lodo.
La parte externa de la banda de rodamiento esta moldeada en un patrón simétrico con bloques largos enclavijados en el centro que se alternan con bloques “escavadores” (DiggerLug) que se extienden hasta los hombros proveyendo la tracción necesaria, especialmente al seguir el camino dejado por otro 4X4. El diseño optimizado por computadora hace que el Mud-Terrain T/A KM sea más silencioso que su predecesor y que la huella sea más larga y rectangular, lo cual, incrementa la tracción sobre rocas y superficies resbaladizas.
La construcción interna del Mud-Terrain T/A KM posee correas gemelas de acero arriba del “TriGard” (tres capas de cordón de poliéster en los flancos) de BFGoodrich que ofrecen fortaleza y durabilidad. Un alambre de aro conformado por una hebra envuelta continuamente mejora el ajuste del neumático al aro y la calidad del manejo. También posee protectores de aro o rines, contra los peligros encontrados en terrenos fuera de la carreteras, especialmente en situaciones de “poco aire”.
