The ContiSportContact 3 SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) is Continental Tire's Max Performance Summer run-flat tire designed to provide temporary extended mobility in case of complete air loss due to a puncture. The ContiSportContact 3 SSR is designed to combine outstanding braking capability and agile steering precision. Like all summer tires, the Continental ContiSportContact 3 SSR is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
ContiSportContact 3 SSR tires permit drivers to remain mobile in the event of a flat tire by allowing them to reach their destination or tire service facility without having to replace a flat tire with the spare tire. The ContiSportContact 3 SSR's reinforced sidewall enables the car to continue on its way at a maximum speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) for up to 50 miles (80 km), depending on road conditions and vehicle weight.
ContiSportContact 3 SSR tires feature an asymmetric design with solid tread blocks and a continuous rib on the outboard shoulder to improve responsiveness and cornering stability, while continuous intermediate ribs provide constant rubber-to-road contact to reduce noise and control the longitudinal forces experienced when braking. The continuous circumferential tread grooves help disperse water to resist hydroplaning and their asymmetrically angled walls further stabilize the tread ribs, increasing steering precision and reducing deformation while cornering. The notched shoulder blocks on the inboard portion enhance wet weather traction.
The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to stabilize the tread area promoting uniformity and high-speed durability along with reinforced self-supporting sidewalls that prevent the inside of the tire from getting pinched between the road and the rim in the event of a loss of inflation.
El neumático ContiSportContact 3 SSR (Self-Supporting Runflat, puede soportar el peso del vehículo sin la necesidad de aire) ofrece movilidad extendida temporalmente luego de un pinchazo. El ContiSportContact 3 SSR ha sido diseñado para combinar una excelente capacidad de frenado con una precisión ágil al girar el volante. Como todo neumático de verano, el ContiSportContact 3 SSR no fue diseñado para ser utilizado en temperaturas cercanas al nivel de congelación o superficies con hielo o nieve.
El ContiProContact 3 SSR posee un flanco o pared reforzado, que permite al vehículo seguir andando (dependiendo de las condiciones de la carretera y el peso del vehículo) hasta 50 millas (80 km) a una velocidad máxima de 50 mph (80 km/h), sin necesidad de aire. Esto permite que el conductor llegue a su destino o una estación de servicio, para reparar el daño si es posible.
El ContiSportContact 3 SSR, posee una banda de rodamiento con diseño asimétrico, que cuenta con bloques sólidos y un segmento continuo en el hombro exterior. Este diseño, mejora la respuesta al comando del conductor y la estabilidad al tomar curvas, a la vez, un segmento continuo intermedio, provee contacto constante con la carretera, reduciendo el ruido y controlando la fuerza longitudinal causada por la acción de frenar. Las ranuras continuas circunferenciales ayudan a dispersar el agua y resistir el deslizamiento en agua (hydroplaning), además sus paredes asimétricas angulares, estabilizan más la banda de rodamiento aumentando la precisión al girar y reduciendo la deformación al tomar curvas. Los bloques con muescas en el hombro interno aumenta la tracción sobre superficies mojadas.
La estructura interna del ContiSportContact 3 SSR incluye correas gemelas de acero reforzadas con nailon envuelto en espiral, para estabilizar la banda de rodamiento, lo cual, promueve uniformidad al manejar y mejora la capacidad del neumático a velocidades elevadas. Al mismo tiempo, los refuerzos del flanco o pared previenen que la parte interna del neumático no se dañe, al quedar atrapada entre el rin y la carretera en caso de perdida de aire.
