The Latitude Sport is Michelin’s Street/Sport Truck Summer tire initially developed for Original Equipment (O.E.) use on some of the world's most prestigious high performance crossover and sport utility vehicles (Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg). The Latitude Sport is designed to deliver world-class dry and wet road traction, handling and cornering but like all summer tires, it is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
Latitude Sport tires share the asymmetric tread pattern and dual tread compounds of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Max Performance Summer tires for passenger cars. It features a hybrid silica/carbon black compound that begins at the tire's outboard shoulder and continues across the tread to enhance dry traction where a high-silica compound continues to the tire's inboard shoulder to enhance wet traction. Large outboard shoulder blocks along with continuous intermediate and center ribs enhance steering response and cornering stability while wide circumferential grooves and lateral notches help channel water to enhance wet road traction. The tires’ internal structure includes two high-tensile, steel cord belts that are further reinforced by size-optimized, precisely placed individual aramid/nylon hybrid filaments that resist tire distortion to provide high-speed durability and enhanced ride quality.
El neumático Latitude Sport de Michelin, pertenece a la categoría Camioneta de Carretera para Verano y fue desarrollado inicialmente como Equipo Original (O.E., por sus siglas en inglés) para utilizarlo en los utiliautos (crossover) de alto rendimiento más prestigiosos del planeta y utilitarios deportivos (Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne y VW Touareg). El Latitude Sport fue desarrollado para ofrecer la mejor tracción sobre carreteras secas o mojadas y la mejor maniobrabilidad, inclusive al tomar curvas. Como todo neumático de verano no fue diseñado para ser utilizado en temperaturas cercanas al nivel de congelación o superficies con hielo o nieve.
El Latitude Sport comparte el patrón asimétrico de la banda de rodamiento y la mezcla de caucho doble utilizada por el Pilot Sport PS2 de la categoría de Rendimiento Máximo para Verano para autos de pasajeros. Posee un compuesto híbrido de sílice/carbón negro, que empieza en el hombro exterior y continua a través de la banda de rodamiento para mejorar la tracción sobre superficies secas, luego el mismo se combina con una mezcla con niveles altos de sílice, que continua hacia el hombro interior, para mejorar la tracción sobre superficies mojadas. Bloques largos en el hombro exterior, conjuntamente con segmentos continuos intermedios y uno central, mejoran significativamente la respuesta al girar el volante y la estabilidad al tomar curvas. Ranuras circunferenciales anchas y muescas laterales ayudan a evacuar el agua y mejorar aún más la tracción sobre mojado.
La estructura interna del neumático incluye dos lonas con cordones de acero resistentes a tensiones fuertes reforzadas con optimación por tamaño.
