The Scorpion ATR is Pirelli's On-/Off-Road All-Terrain light truck tire developed for pickup, crossover and sport utility vehicle drivers that want to combine on-road civility with off-road capability. The Scorpion ATR is designed to master long highway journeys, wet roads and the challenges of winter driving by combining paved road comfort and handling with rough terrain grip and maneuverability.
The Scorpion ATR features a silica-enhanced tread compound molded into a quiet-running, symmetric all-terrain type tread pattern. A virtual continuous center rib and large, stable shoulder tread blocks provide directional stability and steering response while interlocked independent tread blocks in the center tread area further promote acoustic comfort, even on-road wear and off-road traction. Sweeping central circumferential grooves and lateral shoulder grooves channel water to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet traction. The independent tread blocks are siped to provide extra biting edges that enhance off-road traction on loose surfaces and in snow. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon cord to support the tread area providing predictable handling and high-speed control, while polyester cords stabilize the sidewalls and enhance ride quality.
El neumático Scorpion ATR de Pirelli pertenece al segmento Dentro/Fuera De Carretera Todoterreno y fue desarrollado para conductores de picops, utilitarios deportivos y utiliautos (crossover)s que deseen combinar la tranquilidad de la conducción sobre pavimento, con la capacidad de conducir en caminos todoterreno. El Scorpion ATR fue diseñado para dominar los viajes largos en autopistas, las carreteras con agua y los retos que presenta el invierno; todo esto, sin descuidar, el confort en las carreteras y la maniobrabilidad en terrenos rocosos.
El Scorpion ATR, presenta en su construcción externa, una banda de rodamiento con sílice-mejorado, moldeada en un patrón simétrico tipo todoterreno. Un segmento central virtualmente continuo y bloques estables en los hombros, proveen estabilidad direccional y respuesta al cambiar de dirección; mientras que, bloques independientes enclavijados en el área central proveen un desgaste parejo sobre la carretera, tracción fuera de ella y niveles bajos de ruido. Canales circunferenciales centrales y ranuras laterales, expulsan el agua del área de contacto, aumentando la tracción y la resistencia al deslizamiento en agua (hydroplaning). Los bloques tienen pequeñas ranuras que proveen más bordes “mordientes”, que aumentan la adhesión fuera de la carretera y sobre la nieve.
Internamente, el Scorpion ATR posee correas gemelas de acero reforzadas con un cordón de nailon envuelto en espiral, que soporta la parte externa de la banda, lo cual, provee una maniobrabilidad predecible y control preciso a velocidad elevada. Cordones de poliéster estabilizan los flancos y aumentan la calidad del andar.
