The Winter Carving Edge Run Flat radial is Pirelli’s Studdable Winter / Snow run-flat tire developed for the drivers of sport coupes and luxury sedans, as well as powerful crossovers and sport utility vehicles. Winter Carving Edge Run Flat tires feature Pirelli’s Self-Supporting Run Flat Technology that enhances safety and convenience by providing temporary extended mobility in the event a puncture allows complete loss of air pressure. Pirelli’s Self-Supporting Run Flat Technology allows a tire to literally "run flat" for up to 50 miles at 50 mph (80 km at 80 km/h) unless otherwise specified by the vehicle manufacturer for Original Equipment tires. While Winter Carving Edge Run Flat radials are molded to accommodate optional metal studs to enhance traction on packed snow and ice, they can also be used without studs if desired.
Winter Carving Edge Run Flat radials feature a directional tread design with rounded shoulders to increase hydroplaning resistance on wet and slush-covered roads while enhancing dry road handling. High density lateral sipes across the face of the tire enhance packed snow starting and stopping traction while the tread’s shoulder blocks and center zone are molded to accept alternating rows of optional metal studs to increase traction on hard-packed snow and icy roads.
The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts to provide strength and durability on top of a polyester cord body. Pirelli's extended mobility solution is made possible by their MIRS computer-controlled robotized manufacturing system, a production process that assures consistency in the application of the additional sidewall reinforcements that provide the self-supporting run-flat capability.
Pirelli Winter Carving Run Flat radials meet the industry’s severe snow service requirements and are branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol.
