The HTR Z (High Technology Radials-1st generation) is Sumitomo's Ultra High Performance Summer tire developed for the drivers of sports cars, sporty coupes and performance sedans. The HTR Z is designed to be a confident performer on wet and dry surfaces, however like all summer tires, it is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The HTR Z features a directional tread pattern that combines angular shoulder blocks, independent intermediate blocks and a continuous center rib to enhance dry road grip and directional stability. Four circumferential grooves efficiently remove water from the contact patch to resist hydroplaning.
The tire's internal structure features two steel belts with spirally wrapped Jointless Nylon Band (JNB) reinforcement to enhance high-speed durability while minimizing weight and improving ride uniformity. The lower sidewall features sidewall stiffeners to enhance steering response and overall handling.

Fueron desarrollados para dueños de autos deportivos, cupé deportivos y sedán de alto rendimiento. El diseño del HTR Z lo convierte en un neumático de rendimiento confiable sobre superficies secas y mojadas. Sin embargo, como todo neumático de verano no fue diseñado para ser utilizado en temperaturas cercanas al nivel de congelación o superficies con hielo o nieve.
El HTR Z posee una banda de rodamiento con patrón direccional que combina bloques o tacos angulares en los hombros, un segmento intermedio de bloques independientes y un segmento central continuo, para mejorar el agarre sobre superficies secas y la estabilidad direccional. Cuatro canales circunferenciales remueven el agua del área de contacto con la carretera y así obtener mayor resistencia al deslizamiento sobre agua (hydroplaning).
La estructura interna posee dos correas de acero reforzadas con bandas sin juntas de nailon (Jointless Nylon Band, JNB, por sus siglas en inglés), para mejorar la durabilidad (debido a su uso a velocidades elevada), minimizar el peso y mejorar la uniformidad del andar. Posee una pared o flanco delgado más rígido, que mejora la respuesta al girar el volante y la maniobrabilidad en general.
