I just used this last night after hitting a pothole and damaging the sidewall of my tire. The instructions say that it is not intended for sidewall punctures, but I was able to limp the car home without losing much air. The compressor can be used without injecting sealant, but after you use the sealant once, you have to buy a kit with a new container of sealant and a new hose. This kit was super easy to use right out of the box even in a dark parking lot. My car does not have a spare tire and I did not purchase run-flat tires when I replaced them. So this kit is a good compromise.
Note that this kit has tire size limitations (probably due to the limited volume of sealant injected). It worked fine on my 225/40/18, but my other vehicle (minivan) has 235/65/16 tires and that are just off the chart for size compatibility, so it may not seal a puncture for a tire with that much internal volume.
