The Akebono Performance pads give me the stopping power I m looking for without all the drawbacks of traditional street performance brake pads. Initial bite isn t as strong as the OEM G37 pads, but these pads are more linear and it is easier bring the car to a stop smoothly. Stopping power is just as good, if not better than most street performance pads and the OEM pads. Full braking power, even at higher speeds, is very forceful with some ABS intervention with ultra high performance all season tires (Pilot Sport A/S 3).
There is some brake dust, but it is a light gray color and doesn t stick well to the wheel. Its hardly noticeable on silver wheels from 10 feet away, even after driving 500 miles. These pads make no noise at all regardless of the temperature. I live where winter lows can be single digits and noise and cold performance are as good as the OEM pads and much better than most street performance pads.
Wear on the pads are minimal, considering the driving conditions, but more surprising, is the lack of rotor wear. The double disc ground finish used on Centric/StopTech rotors was still visible even at 5,000 miles.
These pads also do not require a typical bed in procedure of performance pads such as doing 10 stops from 60-5 mph. At approximately 500 miles of normal driving, they started to feel normal. Before that, bite was very low, however plenty of emergency stopping power was still available. Fade is nearly nonexistent, but they do emit a slight smell when pushed hard. I suspect it would take hard track driving with racing slicks to overheat these pads. I have had no issues with disc thickness variation, pedal pulsating, brake judder, uneven pad deposits, etc. with these pads. The are as smooth as smooth can be, even on drilled rotors.
I found the right pad for my driving style. I see no need in high dust, high noise, street performance pads when these stop the car just as well, if not better. I will use these as long as they continue to meet my needs.
