The BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 (KM for Key feature: Mud traction and 2 identifying it as BFGoodrich's 2nd generation KM tire) is an Off-Road Maximum Traction tire developed for off-roaders driving full-sized, lifted trucks that participate in rock climbing and/or other challenging off-road driving. The Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 is designed from the mud up to overcome almost any obstacle in its path by combining more traction and mud-clearing ability than its predecessor with a smoother ride and less road noise than normally expected from an aggressive tire.
The Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 molds an off-road tread compound into a Krawler T/A KX-inspired symmetric design that features deep, self-cleaning independent tread blocks and linear transverse flex zones that provide the elasticity needed to allow the tire to conform to off-road obstacles when aired-down and driven at low speeds.
The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts and BFGoodrich's Krawler TEK sidewalls and casing. Krawler TEK consists of three components that include aggressive sidewall lugs, cut- and chip-resistant sidewall compounds and BFGoodrich's TriGard casing (three-ply polyester construction) with sidewall cords that are up to 33 percent stronger than the previous Mud-Terrain T/A KM tire. These advancements allow for more bite and sidewall protection along with increased strength and resistance to bruising caused by rocks and rough trails. Single strand beads (a single strand of bead wire is continuously wrapped multiple times until the desired strength is provided) enhance the tire's fit to the wheel to improve uniformity and ride quality.
While Off-Road Maximum Traction tires, which are often called mud tires, are branded with the M+S symbol and able to churn through deep snow, their typical oversize applications and the absence of snow-biting sipes in their large smooth lugs can challenge their on-road wintertime traction on packed snow and icy surfaces.

I recently replaced my prior generation BFG mud terains with this updated design. I was concerned due to some negative reviews on other sights. In my humble opinion any one that negatively reviews these tires probably dosent own a set. The noise level when compared to the old MT is much quieter. Dry pavement traction is excelent. Wet traction is very good, for a mud tire I would say excelent. Steering response is quite good for a mud tire. Mud traction is very good/excelent. Dirt road tracion is very good. Over all I am very pleased with this tire. In all aspects they are a suprising improvement over the prior generation. How they made the classic BFG-MT better might never be fully understood my people that dont sweat vulcanized rubber. And they look great.

I bought an 05 wrangler Unlimited in Feb of 11, it had 33x12.50 KM2's on it when I bought it. I'm not sure how many miles on them when I bought it but they looked new-ish. I've put just over 20,000 on them since I bought it and I couldn't be happier. Here's what I voted and why; Dry Traction 10. Haven't been able to lift a tire yet, but that could be a function of the Jeep's lower power, big tires, and limited slip. Wet Traction 9 - Same as above. 5 - They don't shine very well here. We've had some ice or hardpack snow (the shiny stuff from being driven on) and the KM'2s do like to slide quite a bit, in my opinion. That's compared to some AT's I've had in the past, so take that as you will. Deep Snow Traction 10 - Of course we've been VERY low on snow this year but the first time it snowed I made it a point to try to find every drift I could to try the tires out, I was extremely surprised. 12.50" width probably helps but I found that the traction is great in the deep stuff, even at full PSI. Light Snow Traction 9- I've found that lighter snow is not QUITE as good as heavy snow, probably because of packing the snow down to a slippery hard pack like ice. Cornering Stability and Steering Responsiveness I marked N/A, because they're M/T's, not street slicks. And, They're on a lifted Jeep so both of those things ---- in general to try and judge a tire with. Ride Comfort 8 - They ride nice at about 25 PSI, any higher up towards the recommended top PSI and they get hard as a rock. Noise Level 8 - Not bad at all for an MT. Noisy when aired down past 25 but hardly noticeable over road noise (in a Jeep, mind you) at 30 PSI. Treadwear 9 - in the 20,000 miles I've put on them I neglected rotation and alignment and only had one tire go down fast. After I rotated and aligned, they stayed where they were at. Judging on the 20k I've put on, you could get 35k easy. Lots of dirt hill climbs, a little mud, many washout cracks, and some snow and I'm very impressed.

These tires are awesome. Nearly 42K on them and there is still a fair amount of tread left. They have withstood everything that I have thrown at them from river crossings, mud, sand, and some snow. I spend a fair amount of time driving in Mojave desert and in the Sierras. Not rock crawling but more overland and trail driving. I can't think of a better tire for this.
On the highway, they are stable and very predictable. They don't seem to hydroplane at all, but they can break loose on wet roads in the curves. Duh! When the road is dry, they grip like stink on S**T. I have had several occasions when I have had to swerve at speed in order to avoid hitting things, and while the top-heavy FJ heels over alarmingly the end result is all good.
You do need to keep rotating them (I do with every oil change) of they wear funny. It could be my truck, but the alignment shop swears that my truck is straight and properly aligned. No biggie. Once you get funny wear you get more noise and sometimes a bit of vibration. Generally they are rather quiet.
Overall I'd say that they are an excellent value and one awesome tire for off road. I plan on buying more when the time comes.

The BFG Km2 are probably the best tires I have ever had. I have tried many different types of tires for many years and the BFG KM2 are the best tires I have ever had on my pickup. As soon as I got them installed I went to the snow. These tires cleaned themselves out perfectly and I was surprised how far I was able to go without using 4 wheel drive. I was pushing snow with my front bumper in 2 wheel drive and the tires cleaned themselves out perfectly. The only flaw I have is I just planned on buying another set of 4 BFG KM2 and I found the price of the tires has gone way up which is very disappointing. Now, what I had originally set aside to buy tires is not enough. The tires last year were $218 per tire. This year the BFG KM2 are $235 per tire. The tires have gone up $17 per tire since last year. Last year I paid $872 plus tax, shipping, and installation. Now these same tires are $940 for a set of 4 which does not include tax, shipping which also went up $60 and installation. That is a little absurd and its a difference of $68 for a set of 4 tires. I could see maybe $5 more per tire but not almost $20 more per tire. That is just wrong. I also found that these tires do wear pretty fast even though I rotate them every 3,000 miles. Last year BFG had a $50 rebate and this year there are no rebates on a set of 4 tires which is also disappointing. Now I have to wait and save my money because the tires and shipping cost have gone up so much and it is an increase of about $120 - $150 more this year from last year. The shipping last year for all 4 tires was $65. This year its now $110 to ship all 4 tires. That is an increased cost in shipping of about $45. Currently, my BFG KM2 from last year are almost bald and I planned to buy some new tires this month until I saw that the prices went up a lot. Hopefully, I can buy the tires next month but we will see if the price continues going up or not. Overall, these tires are great but the price is just wrong.

I was apprehensive about trying these tires as I bought the BFG Commerical TA Traction tires last year. Those tires were terrible. They did wear good but traction in the mud and snow was terrible. BFG tires are very expensive and the tread wear on BFG's seem to begin wearing quickly with aggressive traction tires on my 06 Silverado crew cab Duramax. These new KM2's are a great tire. They do seem to wear on the outisde front tires fairly soon (I had a front end allignment as well) even with the tires with only 60 pounds of pressure. The traction of these tires is truely great. We went Christmas tree searching at the end of October. There was at least a foot of snow or more getting up to the Silver Tips at the 5000' elevation. These tires performed awesome. I was pushing snow with the front bumper and the KM2's never packed up and slung the snow out of the tread just like they were supposed to do. The KM2's performed equally as well in the mudd. Ice, well, I dont believe any tire is going to work well in the ice. On the second trip, the snow had iced over and was about 4-6" thick. We powered through it but we did slide around on the cambered areas of the roadway surface which was a seat puckering experience at 4500' on the cliff side sliding sideways. I would absolutely buy these tires again and I only plan on buying these tires from this point on. I would like to see the tread a little deeper than 18/32 new to compensate for the early tread wear but overall these tires are truly a great tire. I would highly recomend buying these tires if you do work and play in the mud and snow. These tires do give you some peace of mind in mud and snow. These tires did well in the ice but but they do lose traction on cambered roadway surfaces and I have yet to see a tire that doesent lose traction in this type of situation. I highly reccomend these tires and plan on only buying these KM2's from this point on unless of course BFG raises the price to high and I can't afford them.

Just got a set of these tires after researching for countless hours on truck forums, tire sites, and friends. I heard mostly good things so I decided to try a set after having good luck with the previous style BFG MTs. Let me say, in the first day these tires surprised me. They're soooo quiet for a mud terrain tire, let alone one this aggressive. On the road they roll smooth, and also handle quite well on dry pavement, much better than the previous design BFG, and nearly as good as an all terrain tire. I encountered some torrential rain on a drive right after getting them, and once again they surprised me. Some review I read had the drivers complaining about wet traction and handling, I didnt encounter any such issues. Actually, they stuck to the road very well, allowing me to take some 45mph warning turns at 60-65 mph.
I have yet to take these off road on to some serious trails, however I have 2 trips planned in the next 2 weeks that should allow me to try them out and evaluate their off pavement prowess. I will follow up with another review after a bit more miles and after some more varied conditions.

An excellent offroad tire, probably the best I've ever used in many years of offroading. Moreover, it's not bad on the pavement either.
As for its offroading capabilities, which is what I use it for the most, I've never driven a tire that proves so versatile. These tires have been delightful and life-saving on both the Rubicon and Fordyce Creek trails. BFG's new KM2s offer superior performance in rock crawling, snow, mud, dryscape, and lateral/vertical gripping. I can't speak highly enough about the performance of these tires. Kudos, once again, to BFG! (And until now, I've not been a avid fan of BFG.)
My only complaint lies in the treadwear, which occurs at a somewhat higher-than-expected rate both offroad and onroad, but particulary offroad on the rocks. There, even slight wheel spins result in a sandpaper effect to the tread, peeling painfully large amounts of rubber off the tire - albeit without chunks in the lugs, etc. - just even, yet painful treadwear. Nevertheless, and of important note, the treadwear is no worse than most of the competition; but for such an outstanding, competition crushing product otherwise, I expected more in the area of tread wear resistance.
Overall, I HIGHLY recommend the tire. Will buy again and again. :)

Got these tires on the truck when I bought it. We rotate the tires at every oil change between 5,000 and 7,000 miles. We drive a lot of dirt roads, off road, and highway. These tires have an all around amazing traction.The only bad I can say about them is that they are heavy mud tires and shouldn't be driving a lot of highway if you want them to last. Also they are extremely noisey going down the road. Cornering, stopping, and taking off they have an amazing grip. Wet or dry.

First tire I've used for winter driving where I've only needed to use 4WD on ice or hard packed snow, been able to chew around in 2WD through deep snow with no problems what so ever. Haven't had a chance to use them in mud yet, but I'm very confident they'll perform beyond expectations. Road noise is minimal, actually gives just the right amount of rumble to let me know I'm driving a vehicle capable of off-road duties. Handling on the highway with a trailer is a pleasure, haven't even noticed any uneven tread wear. Always been a BFGoodrich fan with my hot rods, now that carries over to off-roading as well !!!

Ive had these tires for 6-7 months now and with all the highway driving I am amazed how little the tread has worn. I have only measured a 3/32 loss of tread at 18,000 miles. Should see close to 50-60K with no problems...

A little noisy for those of us who are used to all terrains but still manageable. Where these tires rock are in the deep mud. The skinny pizza cutter size I have (255/80 R17) does well to bite down where the traction is good and get you moving. Only had to engage the lockers once but other than that a great tire for someone who needs to get to the trail and not have to constantly change tires. I live in the south- so no snow data. Also does well in standing water- not as much steering wheel jerk as with my previous tires.
I would highly recommend!

I am very happy with these tires, I have 12k miles on them and they have even wear at 15/32" with 4k interval rotations. I run them at 24psi on road and 10-15 off-road.
I have 4-wheeled them all over Colorado and in Moab, Utah and they perform very well off-road. They have exclent traction in dirt, sand, mud, and on the rocks. They do get a little slick on the rocks when wet.
I was very pleased with how quiet they ride but they have gotten a little louder with milage, not unbareable, and they are still much quieter than some other M/T tires I have used. Once again BFG has made a great tire and I will most likely buy them again.

I'm running 33x10.5's and have been extremely impressed with this tire. I was running BFG AT's previously, and my primary concern with switching to this tire was how it would handle light snow and ice during the winter here in Vermont. While not as good as my AT's in hard packed snow or on ice, they were never out of control or at a complete loss of traction. In light unplowed snow they were just as good as my AT's. In deep snow there was no comparison, the KM2's just dug right through everything, loose, packed or otherwise. I was really impressed come mud season this year. I live on a very steep dirt road, and when VT clay mud gets wet, it's a mess. This is not the first mud tire I've run, but so far it is by far the best. The only downside was my tendency to seek out the deepest mud holes, usually extending my drive home. In mud, deep snow and on the trail, these tires have never let me down.
On road, the ride is smooth for a mud tire, and handling is surprisingly precise for such a tall sidewall (33" on 15" wheels). Road noise is present but minimal, nothing that would become bothersome, even on the highway. After 8000 rough miles (I travel as much on dirt roads as on paved) they show very little wear. I would definitely recommend these tires and will purchase them again when the time comes.
