Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 Reviews

Feedback demonstrates the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 excels in comfort with smooth ride quality and noise reduction scoring 7-10. Dry traction receives strong praise (7-10) for reliable grip and stability. However, treadwear shows significant inconsistency, with many ratings below 5 indicating premature wear concerns. Winter traction (common scores 0-5) and wet performance (frequent 3-6 ratings) reveal notable limitations in slippery conditions. While suitable for highway use in fair weather, drivers needing all-season versatility may find its cold-weather and wet capabilities fall short of typical all-season expectations.

...Terrific dry traction, sharp steering response, fairly acceptable ride and noise level...

OE tire, completely worn out 3/32" at 33,000 miles. Hydroplanes easily, full time awd irrelevant. Slips and slides in snow and ice. Terrific dry traction, sharp steering response, fairly acceptable ride and noise level. Tows well.

...They do great on dry roads too!...

I was disappointed Hankook discontinued a model of tire I have used for my Jeep Grand Cherokee and really liked. My auto mechanic, who I trust, suggested Bridgestone. I have used Bridgestone before on a different car and was fine with them. So far, these Bridgestones on my Jeep have done very well. We've had a rain filled fall and they have done great on the roads. They do great on dry roads too! There is some road noise, but I've had that before but it's not nearly enough to distract or disappoint me. I am waiting for winter and snow to see how the tires perform. These are good tires.

...Very quiet and comfortable ride...

Have 39,000 miles of the Mazda cx-9, a lot of long highway trips in the Western USA, not bad for original tires on vehicle. Was in a 8 car accident Jan 4th and had to get a new tire so maybe worth buying 3 more as the old ones are about at replacement time, still touching
a penny'sLincoln's head but will replace before anymore road trips. Very quiet and comfortable ride. Of course we live in an area with no snow so can't compare with winter condition.

...On wet, they were fine...

These tire came as my OE tires on my Grand Cherokee. I was completely shocked at how little traction they had in the snow or slush. It made my 4x4 feel like a rear wheel drive truck. On wet, they were fine, dry they were good. I will say that they have very low noise and are comfortable. But if you need more traction for bad weather, look elsewhere.

I own a 2023 Jeep equipped with Bridgestone tires, and I must express my disappointment with their performance, particularly in wet, snowy, and icy conditions. In my experience, these tires prove to be less than ideal, and I firmly stand by my assertion that they are among the least effective in such inclement weather. The safety hazards they pose are concerning, and I would caution anyone considering these tires.

Even with a 4X4 Jeep, the performance of these tires in winter conditions is subpar, making the vehicle feel more akin to a rear-wheel-drive sports car with summer tires. In light of my experiences, I strongly advise against opting for these tires and recommend exploring alternative options for a safer driving experience.

These tires should simply be removed from the market due to the liability they pose.

...Handling and traction is fine on dry roads and okay on wet roads but on snow and ice it is terrible. I would not recommend this tire for any driving below freezing because it is just too dangerous.

Tires were new when I bought the car, I put a lot of highway miles on it and the tires wore out quickly so I'm disappointed with the treadwear. Handling and traction is fine on dry roads and okay on wet roads but on snow and ice it is terrible. I would not recommend this tire for any driving below freezing because it is just too dangerous.

...It doesn't grip well on snow conditions either...

Dueler H/L 400 is a worst tire if you are looking for mileage. They worn out around 25K and now I'm asked to replace them by my service dealer. It doesn't grip well on snow conditions either.

I wouldn't recommend.

...Second worst, snow. A trip to the Cascades in a Subaru should never involve checking the weather but when you have these tires, it was imperative. Oddly, more grip in all scenarios than in the wet, but more than none isn't difficult to achieve. Unsafe for winter use...

Came as the OE tire on my Forester and purely born out of my amazing skills at being cheap, I waited for them to wear to replace them. In the 55,000 miles I had them on I complained about them every time I drove. The best attributes of this tire are in their comfort, they are a comfortable tire. That's where the good ends and the bad begins.

They are the worst in rain, which in the PNW makes this a head-scratcher as to why they are OE equipment in that market. When I say "worst", I want to stress that these tires, even when brand new, are simply dangerous on wet roads. Lateral traction, stopping, starting; all of it is severely compromised in even the lightest of wet conditions. Unsafe for wet use.

Second worst, snow. A trip to the Cascades in a Subaru should never involve checking the weather but when you have these tires, it was imperative. Oddly, more grip in all scenarios than in the wet, but more than none isn't difficult to achieve. Unsafe for winter use.

What's really interesting is I'm sure the engineers set out to develop a Highway AS tire for both wet and winter conditions, they simply failed at this task. What I'm sure they didn't set out to do was develop any off-road capabilities, and yet, the 4 trips up Hart's Pass these tires made proved they these do better off-road than what they are designed to handle. Safe for moderately groomed off-road [but avoid mud at all costs]

Bridgestone seldom fully swings and misses but this is exact that. If you can guarantee you'll fully avoid snow or rain, or even the over-spray of someone's sprinkler, and keep these on dry ground at all times, then sure, but otherwise, these should be a hard-no for everyone.

...The treadwear is not great, with a good alignment at 20k they are close to the wear bars...

Bought the car with a very new set of these tires. Was never overly impressed in the dry, but they weren't too bad. That is the extent of where the are acceptable; they are horrendous in rain. They lose all steering if you hit a small puddle, Hydroplane easier than any tire I've ever driven on. Driving in snow is a joke, AWD was working overtime to not have slippage in even the lightest snow. For some reason, they feel like they are plowing more than driving, and just to keep moving through some 1-3" unplowed snow takes way more power than it should. The treadwear is not great, with a good alignment at 20k they are close to the wear bars.

Unfortunately they are OEM on my car so there are a lot of them out there, and there aren't many other replacements available in that size. However if you drive in an area with much rain, they give no confidence and can be downright dangerous, even at lower speeds. I wouldn't keep using these tires even if I was given them free.

These tires came on the car from the factory. They ride OK, but otherwise, all around road performance is poor considering this is a higher end vehicle. My GF had the vehicle in for service and the dealer showed the tires are close to the wear bars at 34K. Most tires from the factory are at least 50K life, so we are not getting the life expectancy that it should. This is not the first vehicle that came with Bridgestone tires that has performed poorly and prematurely wore out with average driving. We have not had this issue with other brands, except Firestone, which is the sister company to Bridgestone and occasionally an issue with Goodyear tires. The dealer tried to sway us into buying these tires again. We said no and are looking at the Michelin Crossclimate2 which has a much higher consumer rating.
