The Ecopia EP422 is one of Bridgestone's ecologically oriented Grand Touring All-Season tires developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans and small crossover vehicles looking to combine year-round traction, handling and comfort with reduced environmental impact. Ecopia EP422 tires are designed to enhance vehicle fuel economy by reducing tire rolling resistance along with the vehicle's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions while delivering year-round, all-season traction, even in light snow.

The Ecopia EP422 uses an all-season tread compound featuring Bridgestone's unique NanoPro-Tech (Nanostructure-Oriented Properties Control Technology) to reduce rolling resistance and energy loss while maintaining dry, wet and wintertime traction.

This compound is molded into a symmetric tread design that combines notched shoulders and intermediate ribs with independent center blocks for dry road tracking and traction. Four circumferential grooves are designed to help water flow from under the footprint to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet traction while notches and sipes increase the edges that bite into light snow. The tire sidewalls feature Bridgestone's Fuel Saver compound to further increase efficiency.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon on top of a polyester casing to blend ride comfort and durability.

*Specific sizes featuring Ecopia technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's SPEC tab.

Drivers consistently rate the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 highly for comfort, with many praising its smooth, quiet ride (scores 7-10). Treadwear receives positive feedback overall, though some note variability in longevity (scores 1-10). Winter traction is a weaker area, with mixed reviews on ice and deep snow performance (scores 0-8). Wet traction earns strong marks for grip and hydroplaning resistance (scores 7-10), while dry traction stands out as a strength, with drivers highlighting responsive handling and stability (scores 7-10). As a Grand Touring All-Season tire, it excels in everyday comfort and dry/wet conditions, though winter performance may disappoint those in harsher climates.

...In heavy storms this past weekend the tires were solid, no hydroplaning, excellent grip with a fast stop, and no slipping on fast, wet starts...

I replaced a set of Bridgestone Turanza w/Serenity with 35k miles which may have had a bad belt. I bought the Ecopia for the high treadwear rating and 60k warranty. After 6 weeks in dry & wet driving these tires are excellent. Handling is super, quiet, & smooth. In heavy storms this past weekend the tires were solid, no hydroplaning, excellent grip with a fast stop, and no slipping on fast , wet starts. I could not be more pleased with these tires.

...Better traction, especially in wet conditions, and very quiet.

Purchased the car at 120,000... now has 140,000. Have had the EP422s on for the last 5,000 miles. Much improved over the Integrity tires that came with the car. Better traction, especially in wet conditions, and very quiet.

Now when I rated this tire as a 8 in wet traction... I'm taking into consideration that this is relatively small tire, and comparing it to other tires I have driven of a similar size. In my case I'm not driving a sports car so I don't expect it to handle like a sports car.

Also (very important) we experienced no change in fuel mileage. This was a big concern for us. We drive a mix of highway / country roads for the daily transit and consistently get 43 - 45 MPG. (before and after the EP422s)

I considered other tires that would have had more traction, but I was very concerned about losing MPG... I felt we should get a LRR tire. I think we made the right choice, and we are very happy with the purchase.

Summary: Would recommend to other Prius owners and would purchase again.

...I've driven in heavy rain, both city and highway, and these tires are terrific... No hydroplaning at all!...

I wrote the first review at 1500 miles. I now have 5000 miles and had the tires rotated and alignment checked today. I've driven in heavy rain, both city and highway, and these tires are terrific. Quiet, great ride and excellent handling. No hydroplaning at all! Additional mileage is hard to tell as temperatures and road conditions affect MPG. I am very impressed and recently put a set of the Ecopia 422's on my son's 2009 Scion XB. I am curious to see the performance in snow, and will write another review in January.

...Great dry traction and wet...

I have 103,000 miles on my 2008 Prius. This is the third set of tires and by far the best. The initial OEM tires needed to be replaced at 28 K. The next set were extremely loud and dropped my mpg about 15 %. Switched to the Bridgestone's and have loved them since. Great dry traction and wet. I don't drive my Prius in the snow so no experience there. Getting ready to buy a new set.

...they handle quite well...

Just got the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422's, there were no reviews yet because it was brand new, but the other low rolling resistance tires didn't have great reviews and the summer version of this tire had great reviews. I got an alignment done when I got the tires, so my review of them might be slightly swayed by that.

So far I really enjoy them. I don't notice any excess road noise, they handle quite well, been through a few rain storms with them and haven't had a problem at all. I've gotten about a 3% increase in MPG, but this could also be partially due to the alignment. However, seeing as they're still brand new, I expect them to get better as they wear in a bit, so I definitely think they give at least a little improvement on gas mileage.

I'm going to see how they do as they wear in a bit, as well as handling in the snow, but so far I'm very pleased with them. At this point, I would definitely recommend them.

After about 1000 miles, these tires have definitely exceeded expectations, they are much, much quieter and ride comfort has increased a good amount compared to the OEM tires on my Accord (Dunlop SP 7000). They even performed better on corners and felt more responsive compared to the Dunlop OEMs, but still won't blow you away. Gas mileage seems to has increased about 1MPG but the ride comfort/noise level is what made these tires worth it.

The Ecopia EP422 is an excellent grand touring tire with low rolling resistance. It's particularly well suited to cars like the Toyota Camry that aren't overtly sporty. Other than LRR, the most noteworthy characteristics (to me, anyway) of the tires in their first 900 miles of use have been the fine ride quality and low levels of noise.

I have 65K miles on these tires and they will easily outlast the 70K mile warranty. They get great gas mileage, last along time and do well on traction. They aren't high performance sport tires so if you want cornering speed try a performance tire. If you want a tire that performs very well, last a long time and get good gas mileage these please consider these tires.

This is my third review of these tires. As with the previous reviews, I would give these tires a 9.5/10 on all counts. Quiet, smooth, brakes well on dry and wet surfaces, cornering good given the size and suspension of the car. Unfortunately, hardly any snow this winter, but what we had, the tires were great. I also put these tires on a 2009 Sion xB, and the wear on both cars has been excellent. I have the tires rotated and alignment checked every oil change. I highly recommend the Ecopia tires.

I have a real love / hate relationship with these tires. I love the handling and responsiveness in most conditions. Very quietI think if I lived in the south I would rate these Ecopias a "10" across the board. However I really dislike these tires during snow and winter conditions. I am an experienced driver in winter conditions, the Subaru is AWD and still I feel the car sliding and loosing grip often in snowy. I am not sure if its the tread pattern, rubber compound or design.
Tread life seems very good so I have no need to replace them.

I was quite happy with these tires when I first got them. They were quiet, handled well, and gave me better gas mileage. About one year after buying them, I noticed that wet traction had deteriorated, so I really slowed down and drove extra cautiously in rain and snow. Now that I have had them for 2 years, I am not so happy with them. To be honest, my Prius chews through tires like no other vehicle I've ever owned. That said, I believe that the Bridgestone Ecopia tires are one of the worst for wear. At just 32,000 miles, I have one tire at 2/32 and the other 3 at 3/32. The warranty on the tires is 65,000 miles. I'm unhappy that I have to replace tires again so soon.

...Though after about 12,000 miles I was already having difficulty getting up a 2% grade in packed road snow...

This tire is the OEM provided tire on the Nissan Leaf (that I know at least up to 2015).

I'm relatively pleased with the handling characteristics of this tire, I like to take corners at about twice the posted speed, and except for a bit of understeer on anything but perfect asphalt these have done fairly well. Though after about 12,000 miles I was already having difficulty getting up a 2% grade in packed road snow.

That being said, I would _not_ recommend these tires, and I am about to replace them at 20,000. Though I should have replace them 5,000 ago.

First. The sidewalls are abysmally weak. I have been driving now for about 30 years and have had sidewall damage render a tire destroyed at _most_ twice. In the first 6 months of owning the Leaf I've had to replace two of these tires for sidewall damage. Incredible. Luckily I bought the $250 extended warranty that has now more than paid for itself.

Second. Have you ever bought an inkjet or laser printer where the cartridges that come in the box are only filled about 1/3rd of capacity so that you have to buy new ones soon after? These tires are of the same concept.

The treadwear rating is abysmal (400 spec'd)! After about 15,000 miles my tires had absolutely zero tread left on the shoulders. In fact, most local tire sellers no longer carry this and instead carry the 422 "Plus". What does the "Plus" get you? A significant treadwear rating bump (540), even though the tread depth remains unchanged. Thanks Nissan, thanks Bridgestone. I can't speak for any improvement on the sidewall resilience on the "Plus" as I won't invest in a product that pulls shenanigans like this. Though if I had to guess, I'd say they've probably also reworked that weakness as well.

I'm honestly surprised that there's not a class-action lawsuit for this BS.
