The CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology is Continental Tire's ecologically friendly Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season tire developed to help crossovers, sport utility vehicles and light-duty pickup trucks perform on the highway and in mild off-road conditions. The CrossContact LX20 is designed to enhance driving pleasure, save fuel and maintain grip when braking on wet surfaces while providing long wear and all-season traction, even in light snow.

The CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology uses an all-season tread compound featuring Continental's Tg-F Polymers and +Silane additives to improve treadwear, fuel efficiency and traction on slippery roads. The compound is molded into a symmetric tread design with notched outboard shoulders, independent intermediate tread blocks and continuous center ribs to blend on-road steering response and straight-line stability with reduced noise and enhanced ride comfort. Four circumferential grooves enhance wet traction while Continental's Traction Grooves (featuring ridges in the outboard grooves) promote three-dimensional snow-to-snow traction.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped polyamide on top of a polyester cord casing to combine strength with ride comfort. Most sizes of the CrossContact LX20 come with a flanged lower sidewall to help reduce the possibility of curb damage to expensive wheels.

Customers Say

Customers think the Continental CrossContact LX20 delivers excellent comfort with a smooth, quiet ride and strong treadwear longevity. Winter traction earns praise for snowy conditions, though a few note reduced confidence on ice. Wet performance shines with reliable grip and hydroplaning resistance, while dry handling receives consistent high marks for stability and responsiveness. Scores cluster in the 8-10 range across categories, with most customers highlighting balanced all-season capability for crossover/SUV use. A handful of lower ice traction ratings (4-7) suggest cautious driving in severe winter conditions, but overall satisfaction remains high for its touring-focused design.

...During typical thunderstorm deluges, I have yet to experience hydroplaning. These tires move water...

I purchased 4 Continental Cross Contact LX20 tires based on TireRack reviews. The reviews were correct...these tires are OUTSTANDING. Significantly better than the Bridgestone Duellers they replaced. Accelerating to 85-95 mph on the German autobahn, the only noise heard is wind noise. The tires are quiet. During typical thunderstorm deluges, I have yet to experience hydroplaning. These tires move water. Climbing and descending through the hills and mountains of the German, Swiss and Italian countryside, the tires grip tenaciously. These tires make the SUV sportier. I really do love these tires. I definitely recommend them.

...They are as good in the rain as promised...

My initial impression is very good. The ride in particular is just about perfect for a CUV. Firm but not harsh, very smooth, little noise. They are as good in the rain as promised. I will add comments once I try them in the snow. They replace GY Eagle LS2's and are a big step up. Compared to GY Triple Treads on my other vehicle they are quieter and ride better.

I have not noticed an improvement in MPG but I probably don't have enough miles on them yet to say conclusively.

I cannot comment on treadwear yet but since I have read mixed reviews I will explain why I took the chance. First comments from a forum for my particular car are 100% positive with no treadwear complaints. Second the owner of a tire dealer helped me evaluate these plus 3 others. He recommended a couple of the others over these so he was not pushing them. On his own truck, heavier than my vehicle, he reported seeing no signs of wear at 40k.

Normal people don't care what their tires look like, but those of us who obsess over tires are not always counted as normal. These look just fine but they are not attention grabbers. If turning heads is your objective Pirelli or Bridgestone might be worth a look. I considered both along with Firestone LE2 but made my decision based upon price - Black Friday sales. Also, 12/32" tread depth on these is more than the others. Assuming wear will be similar these will either last longer or have better resale value come trade-in time.

...Only other negative is Fuel mileage dropped by about 2 MPG over the factory Continental TR but felt it was worth the tradeoff for a smooth, quiet ride with great wet and dry traction...

Replaced factory Continental TR tires with these. I really like the Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology in all aspects except tire wear. Wore to wear bars in less than 30,000 miles. Religiously kept good alignment, checked air pressure every 2-3 weeks, rotated often, etc. They have an even, flat wear pattern and so I am perplexed by the high wear rate. I like the reduced noise and great ride these tires have but can't justify replacing with the same ones. Only other negative is Fuel mileage dropped by about 2 MPG over the factory Continental TR but felt it was worth the tradeoff for a smooth, quiet ride with great wet and dry traction. Almost the perfect tire for me.

...Customers report exceptional winter performance. "Coming back, we ran into the remnants of Winter Storm Ion as we crossed over I-540 in Arkansas. Here, the tire showed me a new face - winter traction that seems unbreakable! I was able to pass slow-moving vehicles in a snow-covered lane at decent speeds with no slipping and sliding."...

Wow, this is quite an unbelievable tire!

I stopped at Tire Rack in South Bend to put a knife in my OEM Continentals Cross Contacts - with 30K on them, they were unbelievably loud and gave new meaning to white-knuckled winter driving.

From there, I went on a 3K odyssey to Myrtle Beach, and then back home to Lincoln, NE.

The first thing I noticed is quiet - even in a rainy environment, it was evident that the tire performed well.

As the miles wore on, the tire actually got quieter. It is an amazing highway handler, allowing even bumps on the road to soak quietly up. If I have any criticism here, they tend to be a bit floaty, although this could also be the recent alignment that I completed before putting the tires on.

Coming back, we ran into the remnants of Winter Storm Ion as we crossed over I-540 in Arkansas. Here, the tire showed me a new face - winter traction that seems unbreakable! I was able to pass slow-moving vehicles in a snow-covered lane at decent speeds with no slipping and sliding.

As the road wound down into a 2-lane highway, I came into a quick-changing stoplight situation. I hunkered down on the brakes as I expected the ABS to fire off, and got my third surprise - the front end of the car squatting down as the tires gripped into the snow/ice combo in the lane. I couldn't even tell that the lane was slick - there was so much grip that I stopped like it was dry.

Oh, but wait - one final surprise came when I tooled around the 6-8 inch unplowed roads around Carthage, MO. I stopped in a big snowbank, expecting that the 4WD would finally get to come alive. After a little throttle, the 2 fronts pulled the car straight out, with nary a push from the rear.

These are highly recommended by me, and I'm certainly glad I dropped my bias that the OEM tires formed in my perception. Oh, and I think the traction control recommends these too, since it's been sleeping every since these tires are on!

Wow, with 215,000 miles on the truck I have bought my fair share of tire, but these take the cake. In the summers I surf fish and find these tires (although not rated) as superior in sand. In the winters we routinely travel to upstate NY and VT and while we have only been once this year and only had them in deep snow and ice 3 or 4 times this year, WOW they are great!! Traction is awesome, hardly need 4wd but when enabled I don't think anything can get these tires spinning. NO complaints, perfect tires, I have owned the factory Pirelli's and Bridgestone Duelers they cant compare to the performance of these tires. If you are on the fence, BUY them. About ready to purchase same set, different size, for my 08 Outback.

I will most definitely buy these tires next time around.

...On dry pavement, the traction is excellent as well, and the SUV feels more stable. Cornering is above average, but my SUV wasn't made to corner so I'd consider that a bonus...

Early review of this tire. The ride quality is excellent, and the noise level is significantly reduced from the previous set of tires (Nitto). I've driven through torrential downpours already (this being Spring), and the tires have good grip on the wet surfaces. On dry pavement, the traction is excellent as well, and the SUV feels more stable. Cornering is above average, but my SUV wasn't made to corner so I'd consider that a bonus. I'll post a later review likely in the winter, after the tires have seen snow.

...The Continentals are noticeably quieter and more comfortable on the highway than the Bridgestones...

These tires replace a set of Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza that are about 6 years old with 5/32 tread depth and significant cracking on sidewalls and between the treads. After having the tires mounted and balanced, I immediately took a 1,100-mile road trip with three passengers, our camping gear, and the gear for a fourth person in our group who was travelling separately. The Continentals are noticeably quieter and more comfortable on the highway than the Bridgestones. Excellent dry traction (no opportunity in 2 weeks to test on wet road). I averaged 18 MPG for the whole trip -- about the same as before. I am very pleased so far with these tires.

I just put these tires on but my initial impressions are that this tire is better than ANYTHING I've used on this truck or any truck before it. It rides very smooth and have noticeably less vibration and feedback in the seat from potholes or other irregularities in the road. Very quiet also. Haven't really pushed them yet but these seems to have nice grip and response. A few familiar areas where the old tires would always chirp when coming off a turn or slip a little where wet, these would not. Just a great tire so far. Will update after a few thousand more miles.

The road noise is very low...

The primary reason for writing: The way these tires handled in the snow. I bought this tire for fuel mileage and for low road noise, I was prepared to be underwhelmed with the tire's ability to handle in snow. Those in the Philadelphia PA ( the Northwest suburbs -- where we have hills) area are aware of the recent snow storm (3/2/18). A few fellow employees got stuck on there way home and called for help. I drove the truck through unplowed back roads (with drifts -- 6"+) in an effort to go where others couldn't to pick up my fellow co-workers. The truck never got stuck, never slid, up hills and down -- on snow and some icy conditions. Overall, the tire/truck package handled excellent in the snow. The tire has always handled well in the rain and I've never beed disappointed in dry weather. The road noise is very low. In the "for what it's worth" category, I'm not one to spout an opinion with a review, but the overwhelming success with these tires in the snow made me a believer. I was driving a 4 wheel drive pick-up truck, and obviously this helped, but I've been very disappointed in the past with other tires. I have confidence in the tire package. I will buy them again.

...This is only a 20000 mile report will see how they age and resist hydroplaning as the tread wears out...

Good tire used on road and off road, on the road good wet braking and cornering no hydroplaning even in heavy down pours. Good in the snow and light and deep both. Off road in the deep snow up to the sides of the 4Runner they worked well in 2WD. Did need to engage 4WD to get out of over a foot of deep snow while off road. It was while helping someone off the side of the road. Considering the design isn't an off road design they did pretty well. Tire noise is minimal and fuel economy was much better than the Dunlop Grandtrek AT20s they replaced. The 4Runner used to get 17 mpg in town driving after mounting the Conti's the mileage came up to 18 to 19 on avg in the summer. Used them for some off road in the desert and they did fine on National Park and State Part dirt roads. Some wash outs and sand gravel and rocks nothing serious. Not a real off road tire but a good one for what it's designed for street and highway and mild off road. This is only a 20000 mile report will see how they age and resist hydroplaning as the tread wears out. So far I'd strongly recommend this tire.
