The ExtremeContact Sport 02 is Continental’s next-generation Max Performance Summer tire, developed for drivers of sports cars, performance coupes, sedans, and muscle cars seeking a satisfying balance of traction and handling, quiet comfort, and tread life. Like all summer tires, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is not intended to be driven, stored, or serviced in near- or below-freezing temperatures, through snow, or on ice.

ExtremeContact Sport 02 callouts

Utilizing a specialized summer-only compound molded into a ribbed asymmetric design, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 features Continental's SportPlus Technology, which focuses on precise handling, wet traction, and enhanced wear for well-rounded maximum performance. The outside shoulder features wide tread blocks for lateral grip and high-speed handling, and the continuous center rib provides constant rubber-to-road contact for solid on-center feel. A wide, optimized footprint evenly distributes pressure across the face of the tire for improved tread life. Continental employs its patented +Silane tread compound technology to provide sure-footed handling in damp conditions, and deep, circumferential grooves offer efficient pathways for water evacuation through the contact patch for hydroplane resistance.

The internal construction of the ExtremeContact Sport 02 consists of a two-ply polyester casing supporting two steel belts. A polyamide reinforcement ply adds high-speed stability and performance.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

Extremely satisfied with these tires. Wet traction allows for driving with confidence here in Florida's rain. Wet traction during acceleration is the best I have experienced with any tire, an excellent match to the GLI's LSD. Dry traction is typical for Continental's ECS DW and is great with the 02. Noise and comfort are typical for a sport tire. Wearing evenly and typical for 8300 miles. I expect to continue to enjoy them! Highly recommended, especially for wet traction.

1st impressions with about 500 miles on these tires. Razor sharp handling, really smooth, quiet, holds speed well. Very stable at high speeds. The wet traction is insane! It's like there is no water on road. You can stomp these in the wet from a light and they just hook up. These tires will point out everything else that needs to change on your car like better brakes, better wheels, better suspension. I'm enjoying them so far...

...So far, with less than 2K miles, very good (and improving) dry traction, very good wet traction, excellent road holding curves / corners, not the sharpest turn in, fairly low noise (better as the tire warms), little or no flat spotting, somewhat squirrelly over grooved pavement, very good on sharper impacts, excellent rolling smoothness, little impact on fuel economy vs. OEM all seasons...

Given the mission for this class of tire, it’s one of the best I’ve experienced for the price for a daily driver (I’ve used these on other cars). So far, with less than 2K miles, very good (and improving) dry traction, very good wet traction, excellent road holding curves / corners, not the sharpest turn in, fairly low noise (better as the tire warms), little or no flat spotting, somewhat squirrelly over grooved pavement, very good on sharper impacts, excellent rolling smoothness, little impact on fuel economy vs. OEM all seasons. In my experience, they’re better than many UHP all season tires for the money in moderate climates (I have no experience in hot climates, and use dedicated winter tire & wheel sets). Would buy again.

...The turn in is much sharper and dry traction seems to be better... Overall traction with these tires is just crazy - it never gives up!...

I drive a 2019 Golf R and this is my second set of these tires. First set lasted about 25,000 miles which all things considered and the type of driving I do is quite good. However this is the new version of the Extreme Contact. The original version were awesome but this is a significant step up. The road noise has really been improved. The tires are really quiet. The turn in is much sharper and dry traction seems to be better. It hasn't rained yet (live in the Dallas area) so not sure how they will perform in wet weather but the old version were great! If you are not familiar with the Golf R it has all wheel drive and a conservative 300 HP in a 3200 pound car. Overall traction with these tires is just crazy - it never gives up! Have not tried launch control yet but assume the tires will grip like the original version which was virtually no wheel spin from a 4000 RPM hard launch. Not using stock Golf R Englishtown wheels but special order via VW parts Golf R Pretoria 19 inch lightweight wheels. Almost half the weight of the stock wheels. Very satisfied and would recommend these tires to anyone with a performance car.

Replaced the OEM Michelin Pilot 4S tires with the Continentals. I'm very happy so far. They are much quieter, ride a little better, look great and feel 95% as responsive as the Michelins. I plus sized from 255/35-19 to 265/35-19 in the front and from 275/35-19 to 285/35-19 in the rear and that was perfect for this car. Fills up the wheel wells better and corrected the speedometer from about -3.5mph @ 70mph to -1.0 mph.

This is a long term update.

I have 11,000 miles on these tires, they look good, ride, great, handle excellently, are quiet, And all around superlative performance tire for the street.

These have a 30,000 mile treadwear rating but on my staggered fitment car, the warranty is cut in half to 15,000 miles. I am at 11,000 now and expect to get easily another five out of the rears, fronts will make 30k easily.

The only gripe, and it is a big one, Is that the tread runs narrow on these tires. Narrow enough that you get a lot of sidewalk contact with the ground compared to tires with a wider tread and a more square corner, like the primary competitor to this tire, the Michelin pilot sport 4S.

It’s not that big of a deal, but it did bother me a lot for a while (OCD perhaps). I have a separate set of tires and wheels for the track and wish that these looked as beefy as those do…. You can always size up 10 mm in width, do so if you’re the 5% of buyers who would find this a concern.

All in all, while you may have a preference between these and the Michelin, neither are a bad choice, both are excellent options, and price was the deciding factor for me.

Recently toured from the SF area to the Central Valley of California, up Highway CA 120 past Yosemite national Park, onto Highway CA 108, over to I 395, and up into Lake Tahoe, then down US 50 to I 80 back to the Bay Area. I was marveling at how good these were in that trip. Hard to imagine a tire performing more perfectly!

Excellent tire with surprisingly good wet and very good dry traction. Also surprisingly good tread life compared to some other performance tires used in the past. Bought staggered set up, 285x30/19 front and 305x30/19 rear tires mounted on 10" and 11" wheels, respectively. Very happy with results but wish these sizes came in a 35 profile to tuck a little nicer and offer a somewhat more compliant ride.

...As you can imagine they are not a high mileage tire but that's a compromise I can live with.

I have Continental Extreme Contact Sports on my VW Sportwagen and on a newly completed Porsche 914-6. These are the best summer tires I have owed by far and they are not close to the most expensive. Performance is what I was looking for and I got it with these Continentals. Great cornering, breaking and overall feel. The last set I wore out were also not noisy even at the end of their life. As you can imagine they are not a high mileage tire but that's a compromise I can live with.
