The SP Sport 5000M is Dunlop's Ultra High Performance All-Season radial developed for Original Equipment use on coupes, performance sedans and sporty crossover vehicles. The SP Sport 5000M is designed to provide ultra high performance and all-season versatility by blending traction on dry, wet and wintry roads, including in occasional light snow.
The SP Sport 5000M molds a high performance all-season tread compound into a symmetric tread design consisting of a continuous center rib flanked by independent intermediate and shoulder blocks that blend traction, treadwear and rolling resistance to meet a wide range of driving conditions. Full-face, engineered crosscut sipes provide more biting edges for slush and snow traction. The tires' internal structures include twin steel belts reinforced by Dunlop's Jointless Band (JLB) technology that uses spirally wound nylon to provide high-speed durability while it reduces weight and helps provide more uniform ride quality.

Customer feedback data reveals the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M delivers strong dry traction (scores 7-10) with responsive handling, aligning well with its Ultra High Performance All-Season focus. Wet traction shows mixed results, with hydroplaning resistance and inconsistent grip noted as concerns (scores 2-8). Winter performance falls short of expectations for an all-season tire, with low scores in snow and ice traction (frequent 0-3 ratings). Comfort receives moderate praise for ride quality (scores 5-8), though noise levels vary. Treadwear raises caution, with many reviews indicating faster-than-expected wear (scores 1-7). Drivers prioritizing dry-road performance may find value, but those needing robust all-weather capability should weigh limitations.

...a little edgy but extremely responsive and grippy. Theres just not enough power to make them slip.
Dry: a little edgy (could also be the car) but extremely responsive and grippy. Theres just not enough power to make them slip. Do have a slight tendency to follow grooves in the pavement. Wet: they work, but poorly. Hydroplane easily, feel squishy, slide a lot. Key feature: on dry pavement its very hard to get into the ABS - they grip so much you have to back off to keep the person behind from hitting you; in the wet the ABS gets used a LOT. Wear seems to be minor so far, but I dont drive hard and after all there are only 5K miles on the car. Ride is kind of hard, but thats the cars style anyway. Noise OK - quieter than the Dunlop A2s on the Camry. I do hope there are decent alternatives when replacement time comes - especially something that works better in the wet.

Dry Traction & cornering has always been a joy and theyve been not less than solid even on wet concrete freeways. Hydroplaning hasnt been a problem. Quiet on tarmac at high speed. Just had two tires replaced under warranty (road damage); Therefore ?mark over durability. Pretty happy with wear profile after 12000 miles (for high performance tire). Am replacing tires with same although might have tried lower profile PZeros if Id had to change all four...

...When the weathers dry, theyre hard to beat. The car tracks as if its on rails, the tire acts predictably, steering feel is light but well-coupled to the driver.
The SP Sport 5000M in size 195/50-16 are OEM on my 2002 Mazda Protege 5. When the weathers dry, theyre hard to beat. The car tracks as if its on rails, the tire acts predictably, steering feel is light but well-coupled to the driver. Get in wet weather conditions however, and it feels like you have no control at all. These tires have the worst wet weather traction and are the most susceptible to hydroplaning of any tires Ive owned. Granted, I am used to "summer" tires, but I expected more for tires that appear to be so well regarded in surveys. Ive used Dunlop tires for 12 years (D40/M2 and SP Sport 8000) and loved them, but these all-season tires are actually hazardous to my health. The Protege 5 will torque steer and point itself in any direction other than straight ahead when it breaks grip on any front tire, so the SP Sport 5000M is NOT recommended for this particular platform.

I bought a used Hyundai Genesis with the Dunlop OE tires. The car and tires had 18,000 miles on . I've driven 2500 more miles. I like the tires on this sporty 4 door sedan. The car has a lot of built in sound deadening so the tread pattern noise is not bothersome and disappears above 40 MPH. The ride comfort over bumps, potholes, and tar strips is noticeable but not harsh or annoying. I rated ride comfort and noise level a 7 out of 10. The real strength of this tire is handling, cornering, and stability at high speed. There are sections of highways I use with a 75MPH speed limit. The tires are very steady and stable @ 75+. I sneak up to 100MPH when no one's looking. No problem. I rated it at 9 out of 10 for cornering and dry traction. Steering response is excellent. The tire tracks true and goes wear you point it. I rated it 10 out of 10. I've driven the car on wet pavement and in heavy rain. The wet traction is good but not great. I rated it 8 out of 10. I have not driven in snow but did get stuck in my lawn on a flat spot. I'm guessing snow and ice traction would be about the same near to none I measured the remaining tread @ 5/32 of an inch. That's half gone at 20K. The car had obviously been well taken care of including wheel alignments, tire rotation, and balance. I've had the tires rotated and balanced @20K. The tire wear on all tires is even and smooth. The tires have no cupping or worn wear patterns. I won't buy another set of these tires after another 10K miles when they're due for a change. I'm going for a softer, quieter, more luxurious ride probably a Pirelli Cinturato P7 all season Plus which should get better mileage also.

OEM tires for this AWD luxury sport sedan. Combined with the aggressive suspension of this car, they give a rough ride over road imperfections. Too loud especially on asphalt. Traction in snow is barely acceptable but I believe the AWD and electronics of the cars drive train overcome the shortfall of the tires in snow. Definitely need a better option for improved ride comfort and reduced noise for this luxury automobile. I should get above 30K miles, which is better than I was advised by car salesman, but overall I wouldnt purchase again.

...rough ride and road noise but it doesn't bother me...
Don't know why everyone else is complaining about tread wear. Came OEM, 18,500 miles of somewhat aggressive driving and still 8/32's on all 4 tires. Snow grip is awesome (compared to the Michelin Pilot MXM4s on my previous car, 2010 Ford Fusion.) Only flaws are the rough ride and road noise but it doesn't bother me. After all, if you want a quiet luxury car, don't buy a Lancer GT.

Overnight, at 11,000 miles, these tires went from adequate to useless in the rain, for stopping, starting, hydroplane resistance; I am now very careful when I corner. This low-powered car has an automatic transmission, so I cant really drive the car hard. Tread depth is 7/32 at the front, and 8/32 at the back, although the tires were rotated 5,000 miles ago. These tires are still fantastic in the dry, but its not always dry, and Ive read enough about them to know not to try them in the snow. Steering response with 195/50-16 stock size is great, and nobody complains about the stiff ride, which is as much to do with the suspension, as the tires.

...in rain these tires struggle. After 20,000 miles they were skidding on dry pavement at acceleration...
The are the OEM tires that came with my 2014 Mazda 6 Touring. Do not recommend for the slightest of winter conditions. Even in rain these tires struggle. After 20,000 miles they were skidding on dry pavement at acceleration. Now I am not an aggressive driver by any means actually my driving is most geared towards the best Fuel Economy.
This past winter two of these tires developed bubbles in the sidewall. I do not remember any significant impact that could have contributed to this. When I went to a local tire shop the technicians showed me a pile of tires all Dunlop SP 5000 with the same exact issue. This lead me to believe this was a production issue within Dunlop. Very disappointing. Since I do not have the time to put in complaint with tire manufacturers I let it slip but no way will I ever consider Dunlops again.
Customers report mixed winter traction with scores ranging 0-10. While some praise snow grip (7-10), many note poor ice performance (0-6), highlighting inconsistent all-season capability.

...In the snow they are completely worthless. They even allowed my car to slide down a hill with the wheels locked when I was trying to go UP it!...
These came installed from the factory on my Lancer Sportback. They ride and corner great in dry and wet conditions. In the snow they are completely worthless. They even allowed my car to slide down a hill with the wheels locked when I was trying to go UP it! My biggest problem was that they went bald insanely fast. I had the car for less than a year and put on 20,000 miles and they are way overdue for replacement. Granted, I like to take corners for fun, but these things melted right off on the back almost as quickly as the front. Do not buy them.

I find these tires to be extremely well in dry conditions however when it comes to anything but, it fails to do so. Considering I live in canada, I recently purchased my car brand new and got a flat 2 months after in the side wall. Perhaps it was my own doing due to under inflation but solely based on how it does in wet,ice and snow conditions I think its horrible. I'm a very aggresive driver, I step on the gas farely heavily and take turns extremely hard aswell. In dry conditions its great no slippage it takes the turns sharply. However, in anything but dry the tires spin, my car is actually swaying back in forth in ice, and taking turns the car actually fish tails and slides, where I often have to counter steer inorder to maintain control. So really these tires dont really suit all season at all, they are more like summer tires.

I purchased a used 2004 Lexus LS430 in June. Loved the car, loved the ride, didnt pay much attention to the tires. First snowfall of the year I pull out of the garage, down a 3 inch grade to the alley and slide across the alley like Im on skies. The tires had absolutely no traction. I dont know how I made it back into the garage without hitting the wifes car. After taking a good look at the tires, they must be the original ones from 2004, it is obvious they are worn. Really wiered how they were fine in the summer but totally useless in the winter. Needless to say looking for a different tires. Judging by other comments, I see Im not the only one with the ice/light snow issue with these tires.

Original equipment on 2011 Genesis 4.6 liter. The tires seemed to perform at above average performance and comfort levels until I reached 25,000 miles. At this point the tires became very noisy even though they have been rotated every 6,000 miles. Handling has not been an issue, but I'm unhappy with the tread wear. Based on my driving profile, I typically get 65,000 to 77,000 miles per set of tires of this caliber. I would not recommend these tires for anyone who uses the vehicle for business trips and needs long running tires. Additionally, these tires seem less effective than others in light to medium snow.

...At 19,000 miles they started to get very noisy and now sound like snow tires. I actually have to turn the radio up to overcome the increased noise they make. They now have 6/32 of tread left and will definitely be replaced before the snow flies this fall...
I am astonished Hyundai would put such a poor tire on an otherwise great car. When the tires were brand new I had the crap scared out me me due to hydroplaning. This was in a moderate rain on the freeway. At 19,000 miles or so they started to get very noisy and now sound like snow tires. I actually have to turn the radio up to overcome the increased noise they make. They now have 6/32 of tread left and will definitely be replaced before the snow flies this fall. So shame on Hyundai for OEM'ing such a lousy tire.
