The Firehawk GT w/UNI-T is Firestone's High Performance All-Season tire developed for sporty performance sedans and coupes. The Firehawk GT is designed to allow drivers to feel the freedom of the road by blending long treadwear and responsive handling with dependable traction on dry and wet roads, as well as in light snow.

Firestone's UNI-T Technology focuses on three primary tire components, the beads, casing and tread, which influence overall performance by enhancing comfort, handling and traction. On the outside, the Firehawk GT molds a long wearing, high-silica tread compound into an asymmetric tread design that features large outside shoulder blocks to enhance steering response and cornering stability. Inside shoulder blocks feature more lateral grooves and sipes to provide the additional biting edges that aid traction in foul weather. The Firehawk GT radial's continuous center ribs enhance responsiveness, as well as wet and dry traction when accelerating or braking. The entire tread design features Firestone's Veri-pitch sequencing of block shapes and sizes to help reduce tread pattern noise. The Firehawk GT's structure includes twin, steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to enhance driving control and provide long, even treadwear while minimizing weight and enhancing ride quality. A polyester cord body and hard rubber sidewall reinforcements enhance steering response and cornering stability.

Vehicles Used

2006 BMW E90 325i Sedan

Refreshed to address the year-round driving needs of today’s performance enthusiasts who may encounter intermittent light snow, the new Firehawk GT w/UNI-T High Performance All-Season tire line reestablishes the Firehawk GT name in Firestone’s family of performance tires. Designed to allow drivers to feel the freedom of the road, the new Firehawk GT blends long treadwear and responsive handling with traction on dry and wet roads, as well as in light snow.

In order to confirm how the new Firehawk GT tires measure up to some of today’s other High Performance All-Season tires, we compared the V-speed rated Firestone Firehawk GT to the V-speed rated BFGoodrich Traction T/A, Dunlop SP Sport Signature and Yokohama AVID V4s tires.

Our evaluation used 2006 BMW 325i E90 sedans, with new, full tread depth 205/55R16-sized tires mounted on 16x7.5" wheels.

What We Learned on the Road

Our 5.6-mile loop of expressway, state highway and county roads provides a great variety of road conditions that include city and highway speeds, smooth and coarse concrete, as well as new and patched asphalt. This route allows our team to experience noise comfort, ride quality and everyday handling, just as you would during your drive to school or work.

All four tires in our test delivered on their promise of responsive handling with comfortable road manners. As in previous tests, the Yokohama AVID V4s received praise for its comfortable ride and relatively low noise level, especially along the rough expressway section. Dunlop’s Signature Sport was not far behind, also delivering a smooth ride and scoring well with our team. The BFGoodrich Traction T/A and Firestone Firehawk GT both displayed acceptable ride comfort, while generating minimal but noticeable tread and impact noise over the course sections of our test drive.

At normal road speeds, the handling scores for the Traction T/A and Firehawk GT were a virtual tie, feeling crisp and delivering quick response to the driver’s input. The Signature Sport also handled well, with slightly slower initial response to steering inputs than the BFGoodrich or Firestone tires. The AVID V4s counter-balanced its advantage in ride comfort with a small reduction in responsiveness versus the other tires.

What We Learned on the Test Track

Our 1/3-mile per lap test track course includes 90-degree street corners, lane changes and simulated expressway ramps. Run in both dry and wet conditions, the test track allows our team to experience the traction, responsiveness, handling and drivability normally only encountered during abrupt emergency avoidance maneuvers or competition events.

In dry conditions, the Dunlop Signature Sport felt very responsive and nimble, slicing its way through the lane change/slalom and around the tight corners. Subjectively the overall grip level didn’t feel as though it equaled the tire’s responsiveness, but this didn’t hold back our team as this tire drove its way to the quickest overall lap time of this test. Very close behind was the Firestone Firehawk GT, which delivered stable cornering and balanced handling. The BFGoodrich Traction T/A was also easy to control at the limit, but lacked the ultimate grip needed to post the quickest lap time. Just like on the road, the trade-off in handling for ride comfort impacted the Yokohama AVID V4s’ handling. Overall grip felt quite good, while steering response and cornering lacked some of the precision and stability of the Dunlop and Firestone tires.

In the wet we usually see larger differences between tires. In this case, however, the differences were not as big as often seen in past tests. Only 4/10th second separated the fastest to slowest tire, showing how close all four tires are to each other. In the wet, the BFGoodrich tire lead the way with the quickest overall lap time, fastest time through the slalom transition and highest steady-state cornering (average g-forces). The Yokohama lapped our course only 2/10ths behind, where its somewhat slower responsiveness and soft handling in the dry proved to aid feel and driver confidence in the wet by providing plenty of feedback and controllability at the limit. The responsive steering of the Dunlop resulted in a somewhat edgy feel in the wet. In close fourth place overall was the Firestone Firehawk GT, which didn’t quite have the wet grip displayed by the other tires.

Firestone Reviews

Rating patterns indicate the Firestone Firehawk GT delivers excellent dry traction, with many ratings in the 8-10 range, aligning well with its high-performance all-season design. Wet traction shows strong grip (7-10 scores), though some note variability in hydroplaning resistance during heavy rain. Comfort receives mixed feedback, with lower scores (4-7 range) highlighting concerns about road noise and ride harshness. Treadwear scores are inconsistent, with several reports of rapid wear (0-5 ratings) despite the tire’s all-season focus. While dry and wet performance stand out, comfort and durability may fall short for drivers prioritizing long-term refinement and tread life.

...The grip well in rain. I like the braking stability and grip...

Very nice all around tire. Better than any comparable Bridgestone I've ever owned. Nice dry handling and steering response compared to the grand touring tires that came on the car. I don't drive them much in snow because I have snow tires, but when I did, they worked as well as any other all season tire I've driven on.

The grip well in rain. I like the braking stabilty and grip. The only thing I've noticed with them after driving them about 18 months is that they are getting louder. But that's a common trait of performance tires I've owned.

not much of a firestone fan. I usually get new tires within the first two thousand miles of purchasing a car. I cannot believe how this tire sticks to the pavement in wet conditions amazing. i was driving in the rain on the highway not paying attention on the off ramp doing 100 and no worrys. I know doing 100 is dumb but thats how much grip this tires have. I have not had these tires in tyhe snow a little worried I have a 4000lb plus rocket with over 400 hp. will see if these tires handle the snow or I need snow tires. And these tires are OEM tires go figure. Will let you know about the snow soon close to dec. in chicago bound to get snow would highly recommand these for the three season tire one of the best I gotten in years. I buy alot of tires for my cars. The last tire thhat gave me a woody was the 1991 BFG comp VR4 One of the all time best tire I have ever owned.

...Dry traction compares well to the A/S but in wet and hydroplaning is better... Over all much better in terms of wet/snow/slush...

Maxima M-6speed w/Helical limited slip...These Firehawks replaced 2nd set of Mich. Pilot Sport A/S of the same size. Dry traction compares well to the A/S but in wet and hydroplaning is better, in light and deep snow totaly out performs the A/S and the price is much better as well. I just drove in 8 inch of snow and it got me out of it. Also my drive way goes up hill and turns... with the old A/S and 6-inch of snow I had to park on the street and the suspention was not lowered at that time either. Over all much better in terms of wet/snow/slush much better. Ride comfort not nearly as good as A/S, but firm ride is not a problem with me. From what I hear, City Cops use these tires. I'm not sure how fast it will wear out. I may try Yokies next but no more Mich Pilot Sport A/S nor the Goodyear Eagle GS-A. Those Eagle GS-A are only good in dry summers.

I just replaced my Goodyear Assurance OEM tires that came on the care with these tires and have immediately noticed a big difference in the handling and dry traction. I have not experienced driving these in wet conditions yet but would expect that these tires will easily outperform the Goodyear's. The ride is very comfortable and I have noticed a big difference in the ride between the Goodyear's and the Firestone's. The Firestone's came with a 50,000 mileage warranty. I have been very happy so far with the overall performance and the ride.

The Dry performance has been outstanding though. Car does move like it is on rails and sticks to the ground...

The tires came as OEM on my 2014 Charger. As another user posted in their review, seemed smooth as glass first 1500 miles or so. After that they ran with a slight vibration and have gotten a bit noisier on anything but the smoothest of roads. Seems like you can feel every nook and mark in the road through the gas pedal and wheel. Absolute junk in the snow. Just trying to move on even the smallest amount of snow leaves you spinning. The Dry performance has been outstanding though. Car does move like it is on rails and sticks to the ground.

I'm not totally anti Firestone as I've had them on other cars and they have been fine. In fact I'm probably going to order the Firestone WinterForce tires very soon.

These are probably decent 3 season tire but due to the vibrations and zero performance in the least amount of white stuff I'll be looking for a different company in the spring

...The GTs have great wet and dry grip but, as a sportier tire, are harder and louder...

After reading a lot of reviews, those who live in warm climates tend to give a better rating than those who live in cold climates. I have to agree that this tire is essentially useless in snow (not being able to make it out of the parking lot but part of the blame is my RWD car). But I know that no "all weather" tire will be as good as a snow tire so I have a set of snow tires (necessary in Minneapolis)and these GTs for summer. The GTs have great wet and dry grip but, as a sportier tire, are harder and louder. Although, I haven't noticed the high level of noise that a lot of reviewers have. I will have to turn off my radio and check. I noticed uneven wire on the outside of the tires which is concerning but what can I say, I like to corner fast and it is a heavy car. Great tire so far.

Winter traction ratings are concerning, with many scores between 0-5. Customers report slippery in snow, lack of ice grip, and sketchy handling. Some note getting stuck or sliding despite the "All-Season" label. While a few gave 7-8s, most feedback highlights unacceptable winter performance, making these risky for serious cold-weather use.

...In snowfall, whether it is an inch or 6 inches, these tires are the worst I have EVER driven!! They constantly slide, every takeoff from a stop is a struggle, and braking is downright scary!! ... If you have to drive on ice, these tires are worse than driving in snow.

I have a 2018 Chevy Impala LT V6 with about 55,000 miles on it. These tires (235-55HR-18) display acceptable traction, cornering, and stability in the dry and wet. I have had no major problems with them in those conditions. They are just that, acceptable. They are neither great or exceptional at anything. When I first takeoff in the morning, I drive for about a mile on country roads and then I drive for about 5 miles on the interstate to travel to work. First thing in the morning, while on my way to work, the Firehawk GTs would thump and bump for about the first 2-3 miles of interstate travel. They acted like sitting in the driveway overnight caused minor flatspots in the tires that would take that first 2-3 miles to work out. After that first 2-3 miles every day, I did not experience any flatspot feelings. I live in Syracuse, NY which experiences significant snowfall every winter. In these conditions, the Firehawks GTs really disappoint!! In snowfall, whether it is an inch or 6 inches, these tires are the worst I have EVER driven!! They constantly slide, every takeoff from a stop is a struggle to get started again, and braking is downright scary!! I consider myself a very competent driver (I average over 30,000 miles per year) and these tires are constantly testing my driving ability in the winter (I find myself often shifting into manumatic mode to use the engine to help stop the big Impala on snow and ice). If my car had these tires, I would very strongly consider purchasing snow tires for the winter, they are that horrible. If you have to drive on ice, these tires are even worse than driving in snow. I hate to trash a product, but these tires have a split personality. In the dry and wet, they are acceptable (though not great) but snow and ice driving is downright scary! I bet Firestone made the tread compound harder to increase the treadlife! I wonder how Firestone executives could sleep at night with the mud and snow rating on the sidewall of these tires!

...After all that the ride quality is well below average, vibrations and noise...

I bought my car with a set of brand new Firestone fire hawk GT's. 3k later, I had to replace two of the tires due to cupping and pour wear. Now committed to rotating every 2k to keep them from any wear issues. After all that the ride quality is well below average, vibrations and noise. I've never owned a set of Firestone's prior to this set, maybe the other types of tires they offer are better. I do know I would not buy another car with Firestone tires mounted.

...The Firehawk GTs were the loudest tires I have ever experienced, I could identify the vehicle coming down the street by the tire noise. Inside the car you would swear the wheel or the transaxle bearings were bad.

This is a very good looking tire, BUT the Firehawk GTs were the loudest tires I have ever experienced, I could identify the vehicle coming down the street by the tire noise. Inside the car you would swear the wheel or the transaxle bearings were bad. I fault the oversize tread blocks. Please note the vehicle has perfect alignment, tires were Road Force dynamically balanced on a Hunter 9700, and had a nitrogen fill. The rubber cracked on all four tires in the bottom of the tread grooves, the Firestone dealer said the cracking was "cosmetic"...I questioned the safety of the tires based on the fact that water was being forced into the tread structure, compromising the strength of the steel belts. Note: no cracks on the sidewalls. In spite of the 50% tread left, I replaced the Firehawk GTs due to safety concerns and noise.
Installed a set of Continental Pure Contact with Eco Technology tires and the car is transformed to limousine quiet, and rides noticeably smoother. The rubber on the Firestones was so hard and sidewalls so thick even dis-mounting them was difficult. If the safety and noise concerns were ignored I'm sure the tread had many more miles left before reaching the 2/32 tread wear bars. Firestone UTQG rating 460 vs. 700 on the Continentals, so the rubber compounding is not the only story here. I have owned many "High Performance" rated tires, none had the faults exhibited by these. The AWD is very sure footed but these tires half worn were like slicks. This ASE Certified Master Tech believes Firestone should be ashamed of this tire.

tread wear rating and good reviews. I just need a good all season tire that I
can get maybe 40-50,000 miles out of. Tires don't last anymore!

Original equipment on vehicle. At 33,000 miles these are now virtually slicks with hardly any tread left especially on the edges. These tires were rotated on a regular basis. The dealers and tire stores both told me that manufacturers always put the worst grade of tire on new cars and I also found out they have no real warranty. Makes sense - it is like builder grade material in new houses. Maybe a new set of the same tire will perform better or last longer, but I am not willing to take a chance spending in excess of $200/tire.

Just crossed 25,000 on my '15 Challenger SXT Plus. These duds are OEM. Abysmal wear. Metal bits started showing at 25,000 miles. I rotate every 7,500, keep them at 32 psi at all times, don't burn out or chirp the things and they are worn to the core. Still shows decent tread but getting rid of them. Not messing around here with bits of metal starting to show. Switching to Continental DWS06. These Firestones are dangerous when wet after 20,000 and since they were new i was not comfortable going over a puddle on a highway. Severe pull like I have never felt before. Maybe it's the car? Anyway highly reject any recommendation for this tire.
