The Grabber HTS is General Tire's Highway All-Season tire developed for the drivers of crossover and sport utility vehicles, as well as pickup trucks and full-size vans. The Grabber HTS was designed to combine style, comfort, durability and performance in a tire that offers pleasant road manners and a long life, in addition to year-round traction, including in light snow.

The Grabber HTS features General Tire's Eco-Ride tread compound to improve fuel economy molded into a specially engineered symmetric tread design featuring an enlarged contact patch and General Tire's Stabilink system of connecting bars that increase circumferential stability to enhance braking, acceleration and cornering. Response Grooves provide directional guidance for improved steering and Hydro Channels eject water from between the tread and road to increase hydroplaning resistance while three types of sipes promote traction in dry, wet and wintry weather. The tire's internal structure includes twin, ultra-high tensile steel belts to provide brute strength while an internal cushioning system isolates the vehicle from road vibrations for a smoother ride.

*Specific sizes featuring low rolling resistance technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

...Given the siped tread pattern the General Grabber HTS in my size is quiet, responsive, stable in wind, incredible cornering, NO hydroplaning...

In all aspects, the General Grabber HTS is a remarkable improvement over the OEM Goodyear Fortera tires that came on my Jeep Commander SUV. In the past I always put Michelin tires on my vehicles when OEM tires needed replacement. Road tests, leading magazine reviews, Tire Rack tests and customer rating influenced me to mount the Grabber HTS on my SUV. These are the best all-around all-season tire for the suspension, stearing and 4x4 system on my Jeep Commander. A PERFECT MATCH! Given the siped tread pattern the General Grabber HTS in my size is quiet, responsive, stable in wind, incredible cornering, NO hydroplaning, best on snow, and on ice ... last Sunday driving east through Nebraska into Iowa 4" of snow had fallen. Salt melted the snowpack. Then there was BLACK ICE. Many hotdogs ended up in the ditch. We had to wait in line for 2 accidents to be cleared. There were may overturned vehicles along I-80 between Lincoln, Omaha and east of Council Bluffs. It was a very dangerous drive. 90 miles took 2.5 hours. This experience reassures my decision to mount the General Grabber HTS on my Jeep Commander which did not break traction once. Great on trails leading up to my favorite trout fishing spots in the stream canyons of NE Iowa where glaciers never smoothed off the terrain. The tires are made in Illinois only 3 hours from my house. Nothing Chinky about them. State-of-the-art German engineering complements of parent company Continental. NEW BREED TIRE AT EXCEPTIONAL PRICE AND QUALITY! As long as these tires are around I won't feel the need for Michelins on my SUVs and AWDs.

...My dry and wet weather experiences with the General Grabber HTS ($140 each) thus far are comparable to the stock Michelins ( very good)...

I was looking for a less expensive tire for my wife's MDX that was strong in snow and ice traction (her driving style will never push the dry weather performance envelope and the vehicle sees a fair amount of snow and ice driving in the winter). My snow and ice traction experience with the stock Michelin Lattitudes ($240 each) was poor despite the relatively high rating.

My dry and wet weather experiences with the General Grabber HTS ($140 each) thus far are comparable to the stock Michelins (very good). I finally got the tire into snow and ice over the holidays and came away quite impressed. These tires are significantly better in the snow and ice than the Michelin Lattitudes. In all fairness to Michelin I would have purchased a set of Michelin Cross Terrains if they had been offered in this size (the price likely would have been similar to the Lattitudes). I have a third set on my daughter's '02 MDX and they are incredible in the snow and ice.

In summary: I find the General Grabber HTS tires every bit the tire of the Michelin Lattitude in the dry and rain and significantly better in the snow and ice. I cannot offer any mileage comparisons other than to say I got 50K miles out of the stock Michelin Lattitudes. The $100 per tire difference was the deal maker for me.

...Great traction in wet and dry conditions...

The General are great tires for wet NW, performs great last week crossing I90 Snoqualmie Pass to I97 Blewett Pass, a 780 mile trek in ice snow blizzard condition, from Seattle to Wenatchee and back, across the Cascade Mountains. Highway 2 was completely closed due to avalanche and huge trees blocking. With 9" snow fall that night and 21F temp at mile 47 many cars and trucks could not traverse the road. Many 4x4 spinning all 4 going nowhere, trucks with chains spinning at 5-10 mph, many two wheel drivers going up skiing were in the ditch, but the General kept going without losing traction or use of chains at 25-35 mph. I easily drove around a group of 4x4 trucks and commercial trucks in chains spinning out in front of me on an off camber turn. The 07 Expedition has Electronic Active Stability Control RSC, 4x4 and General Grabber HTS . I can see the Skid control light up on my dash but could not feel the vehicle losing traction or sliding. When I got to Eastern Washington, I tested the car in an empty parking lot to determine how much traction I had before the vehicle spinout, it took a lot of ham fisted driving at over 30-35 mph in 2-3" snow and ice before the car spinout, at 15-20 mph the electronic skid control would kick in and prevent the car from skidding even in turning braking maneuver. Amazing Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer with 4x4, RSC Active Skid Control and General Grabber HTS. It took 8 hours to drive 158 miles each way over the pass, the ham-fisted testing in the snow covered parking lot was only done so I know how far I can push the car before losing control. That is not the way I drive with my wife and two girls. Very quiet tires, my girls complain when other car's tires are too noisy driving along side of our car on the freeway. Great traction in wet and dry conditions. Good feed back in my steering wheel for such a big vehicle. Gave it an 8 for rock because it picks up too many pebbles then toss them, pack with clay mud will lose traction.

...These tires feel really good on the road, it's a nice comfortable ride. The dry traction is great and I can't really imagine tires being much more quiet...

Just had these tires installed yesterday to replace my OEM Dunlop AT20s (41,500 miles). I probably could have gotten 5-10k more miles out of those, but after I got a flat in one, I just decided to replace all 4. After a week or so of reading on-line reviews and comparing brands & prices...I settled on the Grabber HTS. Other contenders were the Michelin Cross Terrain and the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A. (the Michelins are pricy and I wasn't quite sold on the BFGs)

I'll visit later when I break em in, but for now...

Initial Reaction:

I was not looking for a snow tire - my main focus was comfort/performance (I like a luxury ride!). These tires feel really good on the road, it's a nice comfortable ride. The dry traction is great and I can't really imagine tires being much more quiet. They feel just a little squishy right now (which is great when pulling into parking lots etc, really smooth) but I suspect they might firm up a bit as the compound acclimates. The steering response feels just slightly more "loose" than the Dunlops, but more than acceptable. They actually remind me of the Michelin LTX M/S I had on a Ford Econoline years ago.

On the highway, these things are a dream. It easily felt like I was going 15-20MPH less than my actual speed. You feel well planted on the road but roll along the highway freely with very little drag. They handle the bumps and lines in the road really well.

I have the white lettering showing and they look real good. I am very happy so far!

...Great handling in all weather and great looking tire.

Excellent tire! This is my second set of general tires. The first was the Grabber AT2 which were an excellent set of tires so I tried these and they have lived up to the first set. Would definitely buy another set of either General's. Great handling in all weather and great looking tire.

...Better than expected snow and ice handling and terrific dry handling, including in emergency stops, have never failed to impress upon me the value of these tires...

I bought these tires based on the largely positive reviews of these tires in general, but also because Honda Pilot owners/reviewers tended to also speak favorably of them. I am very rigid about maintaining my vehicle, and proper inflation, balancing and rotating my tires is extremely important to me. I also ensure that the alignment is maintained, so my expectation is that my vehicle is as close to factory specifications as it can be. Having said that, these tires have shown wear sooner than my OEM tires. I will be replacing them prior to the next (anticipated) snowfall. But these tires have delivered and delivered well for me. Better than expected snow and ice handling and terrific dry handling, including in emergency stops, have never failed to impress upon me the value of these tires. What I don't care for, is the noise of the tires and the seemingly short tread life. They've still got some life in them, so depending on how well they do before I replace them, I may or may not stick with them, if and when my Pilot motors on past the 100K mile mark. In a nutshell, I'll sum it up by saying that in my experience, if you maintain your vehicle well, you can't go wrong with a set of these Generals.

I recently purchased these tires for my Pilot and immediately saw an increase in ride comfort, noise and traction over the factory installed tires. I was a little nervous to buy a brand like General but I have been very happy with my purchase. Although I don't have long term test results (they are rated 65k tires though), I would def. recommend these tires for the price, road comfort, traction and road noise.

This tire is a great value for the money. The tires are extreemely quiet at any speed and for an all weather tire, light snow traction ( 2 - 4 inches ) exceeded my expectations. I never had any hydro planing issues in wet weather although I am a cautios driver. I am purchasing another Jeep Cheroke this fall and will put these tires on it too.

...The wear on the tires are very even. I have not hit the half way wear markers on the tires with 26,500 miles.

This is an update after two seasons of summer to winter driving. These tires are still performing great in the snow and mild ice road conditions. I had confidence driving across HYWY 2 to and from Seattle to Yakama over the Cascade Mountains in zero degree down to -10 weather. The conditions changing from wet ice in Seattle, light snow, to slightly icy roads at night, over the pass, and the vehicle never felt like it was losing traction or sliding in any way. I know it was icy, because leaving Leavenworth Washington, several cars driving slow in-front, spun their tires and slid sidewards before gaining control. I had no traction issues and without using my chains. The weather got so cold I had to add air in the tire because of contraction. The tires had lost 7 to 10 psi. I should have taken up the offer from my Ford Dealer to put nitrogen in the tire for extra cost and it would not have been effected by the cold. Once pumped up to 38-40 psi, they road smooth, quiet and returned 21 highway mpg. The wear on the tires are very even. I have not hit the half way wear markers on the tires with 26,500 miles.
