Customers Say

Ratings data demonstrates the Hankook Optimo H426 delivers strong dry traction (7-10 scores dominate), with customers praising confident handling and responsive steering in dry conditions. However, comfort receives mixed feedback, with notable concerns around road noise and ride harshness. Treadwear ratings are inconsistent, as some report premature wear while others find longevity acceptable. Winter traction is a weak point, with low scores (0-4 common) highlighting poor ice and snow performance. Wet traction also draws criticism, with hydroplaning resistance and grip in rain scoring below expectations. While dry performance shines, buyers prioritizing all-season versatility may find its winter and wet capabilities lacking for year-round use.

...Under dry asphalt conditions, the tires grip really well...

Tires came with a low mileage used car. Based on the wear bar, could probably could get another 10+K miles out of them. But decided to replace these tires after picking up a few nails. Overall very happy with the tires. Tires have good to great wear, cornering, acceleration and stopping under both wet and dry conditions. Never drove in the Snow. My single issue is that the tires are to noisy for my taste on concrete and lately seem to be getting noisier during highway driving. Under dry asphalt conditions, the tires grip really well. And after two owners, still have sufficient of tread life. Also good performance under wet conditions. Agree that these tires are sporty and noisy under some conditions, but disagree that these tires are somehow lacking under any other summer condition. Would consider buying again.

...On dry road they seem to be fine...

These tires must of been OEM, We purchased the car used and they were on the car. This tire it terrible in any snow! The worst tire I have every personally owned in snow. On dry road they seem to be fine, but if you anticipate snow leave the car in the garage.

...Traction with these tires is absolutely the worst of the many tires/vehicles I have driven including really cheap no-name tires. With just over 30k miles wet traction is non-existent.

These are the stock tires on my Ford Explorer Limited and I am shocked that Ford put such a substandard tire on what is otherwise a very high performing SUV. Traction with these tires is absolutely the worst of the many tires/vehicles I have driven including really cheap no-name tires. With just over 30k miles wet traction is non-existent.

...The rear end swings out even when a take a very slow turn- the kind that irritates other drivers...

These tires were original equipment on my Kia Forte. The were reasonably good until the winter came. These are by far the worst tires I have ever owned and I totally agree with the reader who said these tires should be taken off the market. The rear end of the car swings out even when a take a very slow turn- the kind that irritates other drivers.

Part of the reason is the poor tread life but that appears to be only a part of their horrible performance. The good news is that virtually any other tire you may purchase will be better than this one.

...Traction is pathetic and I am almost glad that they are completely worn out at 27k just so I can buy a decent set which will certainly be from a different tire brand...

I signed up for this site just so I could write a review about these tires. They came as the standard tires for the 09 Sonata. I live in Minnesota and these are by far the worst tires I have ever driven on for winter driving. I agree with the other poster who said that they should be taken off the market or recalled. Traction is pathetic and I am almost glad that they are completely worn out at 27k just so I can buy a decent set which will certainly be from a different tire brand. Stay Away from these!

Came stock on my 2014 explorer. Did fine until it snowed. My wife and I are experienced drivers in the snow but were shocked the way it handled on the snow. My wife and daughter were nearly killed when they hit a small patch of ice going 45 miles an hour. Others who hit the ice did fine but our explorer immediately started fish tailing and going sideways. Thankfully she did not over correct and regained control. We are on our way back to Europe where there is a lot more ice. These tires should be summer only and should not be called all season. Fortunately for everyone my family is safe.

These tires were OEM on my wife's 2013 Elantra. Here we are at only 28000, and the car is undriveable in any type of snow. She got stuck 3 times in light snow, and spun a 360 before I stopped her from driving until we get new tires. Even wear, as I religiously rotate. Down to 2/32 tread on 3 of the 4 tires----4th had 4/32, so they would NOT honor any warranty until all 4 were basically bald! I don't like Hyundai, or these Hankook tires...wouldn't buy wither again.

I have 47000 miles on these tires and probably could get a few more but am going to buy new ones, same brand. The only beef I have is the road noise-I think they are noisy. But I will put up with noise if I can get 47K out of the second set. Hard to rate some of the info. I have never skidded or lost control because of the tires. I have driven in snow, but carefully.

This is the nosiest and roughest riding tire we have ever had other than those on a work truck. You would swear the bearings are bad with the amount of noise. Traction is ok but nothing exciting. In Alabama we don't get much snow but these tires don't handle snow well at all. Very disappointed in the tires and that they are spoiling what has been a good car.

...The ride is hard and the road noise is very loud...

With 14,500 miles on these tires they are 75% worn... 4/32 tread left. These are the factory installed tires that came on the car when I bought it new in 2009. These tires will be worn out by 18,000 miles. The ride is hard and the road noise is very loud. I have had my cars alienment checked 3 times at my dealer and its always in alienment. I keep the tire pressure at 32lbs which is the auto manfactures recommend pressure.I also rotate them every 6,000 miles. I would not recommend these tires

...At around 30,000 miles, the sipes and transverse pattern were nearly gone leaving only the longitudinal grooves. The tires' appearance reminds me of tractor-trailer retreads...

As with many reviews here, I am disappointed with the lack of wet traction and the seemingly rapid tread wear. I have been able to survive Northeast winters with these tires largely due to my 5-speed manual that allows me to better control wheel spin and engine braking. I was initially excited at having Hankook tires as OEM but that enthusiasm has quickly vanished. At around 30,000 miles, the sipes and transverse pattern were nearly gone leaving only the longitudinal grooves. The tires' appearance reminds me of tractor-trailer retreads. I cannot wait to purchase proper all-season tires as I have no confidence in winter driving on these tires. Looks like I will be putting more miles on my Jeep Wrangler for the remainder of this winter season.

These are OE on my wifes 2012 Kia Forte. At almost 17000 miles they are cracked and almost bald. Car has always been aligned and tire pressure has always been fine. Noisiest tire I've ever owned. Used mostly in city driving, crappy MA roads, short trips. Will never buy Hankooks again. Terrible in any weather, they handle okay on dry pavement.

...With only 5000 miles on the tires the tread started pealing off, after a quick rotation the tires recovered a bit. From 5000-10K was pretty normal wear, but right about 10K once again the tires started falling apart. Another rotation but no recovery this time, and now I'm at 18.5K miles and shopping for new tires...

Oh Ford... You make a great car and design some decent rims for the car and then mess it all up by wrapping the rims in these pieces of garbage. OK so I'm not your average everyday driver, I'm also not doing autocross every weekend or something like that. With only 5000 miles on the tires the tread started pealing off, after a quick rotation the tires recovered a bit. From 5000-10K was pretty normal wear, but right about 10K once again the tires started falling apart. Another rotation but no recovery this time, and now I'm at 18.5K miles and shopping for new tires. Thanks for the cheapest tire on the market (almost) Ford!

As I state above I'm not an average driver, I tend to drive very fast and push cars to their limit daily. There is a reason I have a car that makes 400 ponies at the wheels, yes I have a few upgrades in the engine compartment and the suspension so these upgrades may have helped me destroy these tires, but you can be sure I would not be looking for a replacement set from anyone of these things and it looks like I'm not the only one. I have hit the 125 mph many times before flashing a tune that removes that little pain, and driven speeds in excess of 140mph on I-10 West of Phoenix more than a few times. This plus the hard cornering that you might not expect from a FLEX did likely cause a good bit of additional wear on the tires but this much? Well Maybe!
