Survey Key/Glossary of Terms

Tire Rack's survey results are tabulated from the responses of our customers and website visitors. If you would like to document your tire experiences and contribute to the survey, you can do so by completing our online form. We welcome your input.

Performance traits are rated from "0" to "10," with "0" considered unacceptable and "10" considered excellent. While many of the categories are self-explanatory, a color key and brief glossary of terms are shown below to help you interpret results.

Glossary Terms Dry Traction

Wet Traction

Rates wet traction when accelerating, braking and cornering.

Light Snow Traction

Rates traction when accelerating, braking and cornering in shallow (up to about 4 inches), powder snow.

Deep Snow Traction

Rates traction when accelerating, braking and cornering in deep (more than about 4 inches), powder snow.

Ice Traction

Rates traction when accelerating, braking and cornering on ice, as well as recently plowed, hard-packed snow.

Cornering Stability

Rates the tire's stability when cornering. How predictably it maintains the driver's input.

Steering Response

Rates the tire's steering responsiveness. How quickly it follows the driver's steering input.

Ride Quality

Rates the tire's smoothness and ride comfort.

Noise

Rates the noise level and tone(s) generated by the tire.

Treadwear

Rates quickness of wear based on the driver's expectations.

Total Miles Reported

The total miles covered by all the survey respondents with this model of tire. High numbers indicate a high number of people responding to the survey.
