The Defender2 is Michelin's Standard Touring All-Season tire built for drivers of coupes, sedans, crossover, SUVs and minivans, looking for a dependable tire with reliable year-round traction. Defender2 tires are built to combine long, durable tread life with capable all-season performance in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even in light snow.

The all-season compound is molded into a symmetric tread design allowing for flexible rotation patterns, helping manage block wear and maintain a smooth, quiet ride. Interconnected tread elements minimize airborne noise and help ensure a stable footprint for predictable handing in dynamic maneuvers. Wide, circumferential grooves provide ample pass-through volume and channel water from generous lateral notches for enhanced hydroplaning resistance. Carefully integrated lateral and longitudinal sipes help provide biting edges and grip on slippery pavement for confidence in inclement weather and wintry roads.

Internal construction of the Defender2 consists of a single-ply casing with a high turn-up ply design to maintain durability while preserving ride comfort. Twin steel belts provide a robust foundation for the tread and are reinforced by a polyamide cap ply for stability at high speeds.

...Once I got them, it snowed about 2 weeks later about 10 inches. I drove to work like a boss. I had one unplowed road that slipped me about 1 second and the 4x4 and tires all pulled through and muscled through it...

Car was bought at carmax with substantial dry rot on the tires. Did a on best rated for my jeep cherokee. They recommended these and the cross climate. The cross climate were way more money for slightly better conditions. These had an 80,000 mile warranty which was insane. Once I got them, it snowed about 2 weeks later about 10 inches. I drove to work like a boss. I had one unplowed road that slipped me about 1 second and the 4x4 and tires all pulled through and muscled through it. I’ve ran Pirelli Winter tires on a FWD Mazdaspeed3 that handled about the same as these. In the rain, you wonder what a water hazard is. Haven’t experienced any hydroplaning. I’ve driven on very light ice and still haven’t had much of an issue. Done with the weather. I wanna see these in some dry heat! Very low road noise and exceptional handling and bounce resistance. Highly recommend these tires!

...Enjoy the piece of mind that my family is riding on these tires this winter.

Purchased because of ratings and past positive experience with Michelin. Tire rack purchases are always seamless. I had a local shop install the tires. These tires do everything well. It seems like they got gripier in hard cornering after about 5000 miles. Enjoy the piece of mind that my family is riding on these tires this winter.

...Great on wet pavement and in the past 2 snow and ice storms since Thanksgiving...

I’ve been recently disappointed with Michelin tires but decided to try these because of the 80,000 mile warranty. Wow - have I been pleasantly surprised! Super quiet! Great on wet pavement and in the past 2 snow and ice storms since Thanksgiving. Michelin designed these well! I’ll be interested to see how they hold up vs their 80k warranty but so far they’ve exceeded expectations!

...nothing that causes it to wander or drift ( straight-line tracking is precise and solid)...

All-around a great tire. Road noise is a little high sometimes and the steering feel is a pinch less crisp than I’d like, but nothing that causes it to wander or drift (straight-line tracking is precise and solid).

Sometimes on wet surfaces they easily lose grip through a long sweeping turn (highway on/off ramps), which is unsettling when combined with the performance-oriented (i.e lazy) Porsche traction control. I assume that’s from the harder tread compound since these are 80k mile tires.

Overall, I’m happy enough with them and would purchase another set, or at a minimum, another set of Michelin.

...The ride comfort is excellent, and the road noise is incredibly low?perfect for a family van...

I previously drove 65,000 miles on the original Michelin Defender 1, so moving to the Defender 2 was a natural choice for my Sienna.

I am now 23,000 miles into this new set, and I love them just as much, if not more. The ride comfort is excellent, and the road noise is incredibly low—perfect for a family van.

If you are looking for a smooth, quiet ride with lots of miles, this is it.

Just bought these tires. Went back and forth trying to decide between the crossclimate2 and defender 2 for my Palisade. Ultimately decided on the defender 2 because I really wanted a quiet ride. And the tires are quiet. Previous to these tires, I thought I had a bad bearing on the back side of my car, but the noise was just worn out tires. When I picked these up, the noise was completely gone. Took a long drive in -8 deg weather and the ride was smooth and quiet. Love these tires so far.

...Almost 88 thousand miles! The tires still look new. Hardly any tread wear can be seen...

These are the best tires I've ever had...period. When I decided to buy new tires I decided to spend more and buy the best. When these were installed on my Camry on March 20, 2024, it had 89,745 miles on it. It is almost 2 years later, March 15, 2026, and it just turned 177,715 miles. Almost 88 thousand miles! The tires still look new. Hardly any tread wear can be seen. I do have them rotated at around 10k miles. I commute approximately 145 miles a day (mostly) 7 days a week. I mostly drive on i95 here in South Florida.
I find only 2 problems that I've dealt with. 1. Road noise.....it is a little loud. It doesn't bother me though because I listen to the radio. It's only during phone calls is it bothersome. 2. Wet traction.....they are great on straight wet roads, but, turning is where they loose grip. I slid quite a few times the first few months I had these. But I've learned to slow way, way down when turning.
The ride quality is great. I don't feel every bump in the road.
Overall I give these tires an extremely high recommendation. I would recommend these to anyone that wants longevity out of tires. I will definitely be buying these in the near future for my Daughters car and mine, again, when that day comes.

85k on tires so far with at least another 30k remaining. I would highly recommend this tire, it doesn't look as good as the Cross Climate 2 but I'm willing to bet it is more quiet and last longer. It also looks great with tire dressing on it.
