The iON evo AS is Hankook's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for drivers of electric vehicles (EVs), sedans, and coupes looking for an adaptable mix of dry and wet traction with confident wintry weather traction for four season performance.

Utilizing a tread compound specifically developed for use with the heavy weight of EVs, the iON evo AS takes advantage of an optimized curing process and pressure distribution for more even contact with the road. The naturally quiet operation of EV motors requires a dedication to noise management at every step. Rigorous adjustment of the tread pattern's pitch count and variation in conjunction with knurling patterns carved into the grooves to minimize sound are all ultimately aided by a sound-deadening layer of foam for a low-volume experience. 3D GripKontrol sipes have been strategically applied to aid the four longitudinal grooves in resisting hydroplaning in the wet, and, if weather demands, offer additional biting edges for reliable snow traction.

Hankook: iON evo AS

The iON evo AS's internal construction features a polyester body ply with a high turn-up for enhanced sidewall stiffness and durability that can handle additional vehicle weight in lateral maneuvers for smooth control. Twin steel belts ensure a stable base for the tread package joined with a polyamide reinforcement for predictable handling and high-speed performance.

...This tire is much quieter than the Cup2 and very close in dry performance and leaps and bounds better in wet performance.

Outside of a dedicated DOT track tire like the sport cup2 this is the best tire I’ve ever ran on my car. This tire is much quieter than the Cup2 and very close in dry performance and leaps and bounds better in wet performance.

...But even when I have, I've never hydroplaned or had the slightest sensation that the car was losing grip...

When I purchased this amazing vehicle as a Mercedes-Benz CPO, it came with Continental Conti run-flats. I drove on those for 2 years, only putting about 5k on the car during that time. I was “learning” the car itself—I’ve never owned a vehicle that is as outrageously powerful and sporty as my SL550 with its twin-turbo V8. Throughout that time, I kept abreast of the model on various forms and noted how many folks had upgraded to the Pilot Sport Summer tires. As I live in Florida, it seemed a no-brainer. And so even though there were several 10’s of thousand miles left on the Conti’s, I traded them in for the Pilot Sport 4S’s.

And what a world of difference. By that time, I had become used to the car and how it drove and cornered. But the stiffness, sound, and chattery-feeling of the Conti’s were replaced by what felt like treadless, soft, pure rubber goodness. The noise went down, and the car sticks to the road as if glued to it. Granted, in FL, everything is flat and perpendicular, but last summer I took it to the NY Catskills for 5 months of spirited mountain driving; no people, no cars, no cops, just deer(!). And the joy of tearing around hairpin up-and-down curves in Sport+ mode, and then switching to my ABC suspension in Comfort on smooth straightaways was an experience bar none. It was too much fun. I don’t take the car out a lot in rainy weather; it’s too pretty, so I use my SUV for that. But even when I have, I’ve never hydroplaned or had the slightest sensation that the car was losing grip. The only ding that I can give it isn’t really a ding, it’s the nature of the beast—while in NY in October, the nights began dropping to and below that 40° threshold, and I didn’t dare drive it until it had warmed back up for a day or so. Beyond that, these tires are all that and more and a perfect match for this car. I am thrilled with the upgrade.

I've bought over two dozen of these Michelin Pilot Sport tires from Tire Rack over the past 20+ years and have been very happy with them. I have tried one set of Pirelli tires that came stock on my new 2022 BMW M3 Competition and they were good tires also, but I keep going back to the Michelins - really grippy and solid feel as I push hard on various road conditions.

...The Pilot Sports were less harsh and greatly reduced tramlining. A recent four-wheel alignment on the new tires and rims vastly improved the car's steering feel...

These tires were purchased to replace the OEM Dunlop run-flats which had a harsh ride and pronounced tramlining. Bought Pilot Sports in conjunction with a set of replacement rims, 345/30ZR-20 rear, 285/35ZR-20 fronts. The Pilot Sports were less harsh and greatly reduced tramlining. A recent four-wheel alignment on the new tires and rims vastly improved the car's steering feel. Happy with the purchase and would buy again. One negative note, these tires readily pick up punctures, punctured both new rear tires and had to be replaced, it should be noted that the tire warranty replacement procedure experience was outstanding. Also happened with my previous car, a Porsche 911, three (1 front, 2 rears) of the OEM Pilot Sports tires replaced due to punctures.

...These were instantly noticeably quieter... and the ride is at least 50% smoother

Swapped from the OEM Pirelli all season tires with under 8000 miles, those would fishtail and were loud even on highway. These were instantly noticeably quieter, cornering and turn in is much more precise and confident, no more tire spin from stop signs, and the ride is at least 50% smoother
