The Primacy HP is Michelin's Grand Touring Summer tire developed to provide longer tread life and lasting performance throughout the tire's life, as well as better braking, steering control and handling on wet roads. The Primacy HP tires meet Michelin's Green X standard* for eco-focused manufacturing and low rolling resistance, and confirms the tire's contribution to reducing vehicle fuel consumption, emission of CO2 gases and improving sustainability through conservation of natural resources. While Primacy HP tires are designed to offer reliable traction in dry and wet conditions, they are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Primacy HP tires benefit from Michelin design innovations known as A.S.M. (Architecture, Sculpture and Materials) reflecting Michelin's ability to focus simultaneously on three fundamental factors that determine a tire's capabilities. Using their A.S.M. design method, Michelin can develop tires that combine an architecture that deforms more easily to optimize contact with the road, a tread design sculpture that remains rigid so more of the footprint contributes to performance, and unique tread compound materials precisely blended by Michelin's mixing technology.

Primacy HP tires use a new generation Michelin tread compound molded into an asymmetric tread design that features large, linked shoulder blocks, notched intermediate ribs and a solid center rib to combine responsive handling and high-speed stability with traction and even treadwear. The Primacy HP tire's structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by size-optimized BAZ Technology (spiral-wrapped Polyamide Banded At Zero degrees to tire rotation) to enhance ride quality while providing high-speed durability.

*Specific sizes featuring Green X Technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Customers Say

Customer feedback data reveals strong performance in key areas for this grand touring summer tire. Dry traction receives outstanding praise with numerous perfect scores, delivering confident handling and responsive steering. Wet traction earns consistent positive marks for grip and hydroplaning resistance, though a few users report reduced confidence in heavy rain. Comfort scores show a smooth, quiet ride experience for most drivers, while some note occasional firmness on rough surfaces. Treadwear ratings indicate satisfactory longevity for the category, with several customers reporting good mileage, though a minority mention faster-than-expected wear. I've only had my car for a month or so, but I recently took it on a long trip of 900+ miles and it was pouring rain the entire time. I have to say that I was incredibly impressed how well this tire was in the rain! This tire performed better (absolutely ZERO hydroplaning)than the Bridgestone tires I have on my other car that were specifically made for rainy conditions and this is a much lighter weight car too. I will write another review when I have more mileage on them, but so far, I'm extremely impressed. Yes, the tire is low-profile (so not much cushion there) but it handles like a dream! Yes, the tire is noisy (common with this type of performance tire) but not overly so. Yes, there is a little bit of slippage on dry pavement.... but that is exactly what makes this car/ tire combo so much fun. Perfect for the "drift" ;-)

...Mid range in rain, many water puddle on track. No hydroplaning at all. Wet traction is not ideal as RE-71R, but 71R can't protect you from hydroplaning...

OEM tire on BRZ. I race BRZ in 86 cup. Never liked the OEM tire, but last time when it was raining. I had no choice to use this tire. (The other set is NT01 R compond that already down to slick.) Mid range rain, many water puddle on track. No hydroplaning at all. Wet traction is not ideal as RE-71R, but 71R can't protect you from hydroplaning. I tracked this tire on dry before and believe this thing is worse than crap. But it supprised me last weekend. For BRZ owner that track your car on tread wear lower than 200, I would suggest don't throw away the OEM tire.

...They give you a great deal of confidence in that they hold to the road very well and won't lose grip until you push them to their limits. Once you back off the grip is right there were it was, they are very consistent in this manner...

These tires came on my Subaru BRZ and I was very happy that they did. Knowing that Michelin uses a lot of tire technology that they've developed in world-class sports car racing made me excited to have such a tire on my new car. I'd driven around town and on the highway and had been very impressed with the responsiveness of the tire. They give you a great deal of confidence in that they hold to the road very well and won't lose grip until you push them to their limits. Once you back off the grip is right there were it was, they are very consistent in this manner.
However it wasn't until last weekend that I truly understood how good a tire these are. I drove to The Tail of the Dragon on the North Carolina/Tennessee border (if you've never heard of it google it) for some driving adventure. This is where the Primacy tires really showed their potential and how hard they can be driven! They allowed me to dive into sharp as can be turns with great speed, and then exit the turn and get back on the gas immediately. They were again very consistent, I knew when they were going to start losing grip. It really did take some very aggressive driving to get them to their limits though. Another guy in front of me had a BRZ with a turbo and rally-cross super sticky tires. I don't think it was all because of my driving skills that allowed me to keep pace with him, I shouldn't have been able to, he had a huge advantage on me. But again, I was able to get back on the power immediately upon exit. I'm tempted now to try their Pilot Super Sport tire, but I think I'll get many more miles of enjoyment out of the Primacy. Seeing as how these are a summer tire I'll probably switch over to the Pilot Sport AS/3 once the temperatures drop, but until then I'll be tearing up the roads on these Primacy tires! Well done Michelin, well done!

...My driving varies between economy driving (I make a game of not using the brakes) and 110mph runs in the boonies and hard cornering on the ramps and the tires seem indestructible...

I replaced the OEM Goodyears on my Infiniti M35 with these. The difference was night and day. Having the M35x with all wheel drive, I was able to slide sideways around corners with the stock tires on wet pavement. Of course, that's occasionally fun and when I tried to do the same with the Primacy, I found I couldn't break free, even in the wet. I've put around 15,000 miles on the Primacy in a 4500lb car and I've got no noticeable wear on them. My driving varies between economy driving (I make a game of not using the brakes) and 110mph runs in the boonies and hard cornering on the ramps and the tires seem indestructible. I bought used, but my stock tires were done after 25,000 miles.

Best tires I've ever owned.

Although Renault are known for their great handling, only a good tire will make this come alive. I've had my Primacy HP on my Megane Hatch 08 for over 61,000 km (38,000 miles) now, and despite my aggressive driving style, they're still in a very good condition, even according to the dealer! great grip, ware-rate and handling.

...The ride, handling, lack of road noise, and comfort are above my expectations...

I selected this tire because of previous experience on another car. I found that the tire has proved itself in all areas to be even better than I expected on this car with sport suspension. The ride, handling, lack of road noise, and comfort are above my expectations. Tread life at this point is great.
I would recommend this tire, and will use it again.

A good looking tire. The comfort is what I expect from a low profile tire and the performance is above par on dry hard surfaces. A perfect tire for a daily driver and occasional fun driving on twisting roads.

...Treadwear is fantastic. I've put on 12000 miles and the tires look hardly used which is impressive...

For what the tire is made for, which is a summer touring tire for a 4 door car, it would be a good tire. To be included on a 2 door sport coupe is a little disappointing. The tires do well just cruising down the freeway, not overly noisy, not overly rough and track nice and straight. They also resist hydroplaning relatively well and haven't given me any issues.

however cornering ability leaves a lot to be desired, the tire gets greasy and likes to slide out. they also get very audible when being pushed and the tires tend to stay cold even when pushed so when the temperatures go down, they never heat up and stay very slick. Wet cornering/traction is just bad, like real bad, again because the tires just don't heat up they offer little to no grip when wet out and you're left driving like you got miss daisy in the back.

Treadwear is fantastic. I've put on 12000 miles and the tires look hardly used which is impressive. If i had a 4 door family hauler that needed summer tires that got me good MPG i'd get these for sure. but for my car they're pretty useless and i'll be looking to replace them with something sticky like the pilot super sports (which are a cheaper tire yet 10000x better).

Changed from Dunplo Sport SP6060 to these after 50000km, I noticed a big improvement in handling and noise levels even fuel economy! Great tire over all. Even the tread wear on the new michelins is much better than I expected, 20000km and still have 50% tread left.

Just about to send these to the recycling center as they're the OEM's that came with the car and are on almost 60,000K miles, so I got a full life out of them. A good chunk of my driving has been highway miles to work so that probably explains the longevity but you can't fault them on that front, regardless...

A good chunk of my driving has been highway miles to work so that probably explains the longevity but you can't fault them on that front, regardless.

In my opinion, this tire gets maligned because they were the OEM's for a car that has/had a lot of misconception around it from the "bro" culture...namely the Toyota/Subaru collaboration that is the FR-S/BRZ. Anyone with a moderate knowledge base about cars and that had done a modicum of their own research should've known what to expect from the factory. And what that is, is a lightweight sports coupe based around a fundamentally solid platform built for handling, high-speed momentum driving and low-speed "goosing"...not sub 4-second 0-60 times and torque induced over-steer.

Anyhow...the tire is matched very well for the car for what it came out of the factory to do, just not in wet conditions, and I got everything I expected out of them. Pricey? Yes. Would I buy again? No, not for the price. They are better than the average rating they get on here, though...in primarily dry conditions.

Head 2 Head 2015 Subaru BRZ (04:01)

Michelin worked closely with Subaru to develop the Primacy HP as the BRZ's O.E. tire. It's a Grand Touring Summer tire that's very "real world" and well matched to the BRZ's capabilities. Steering control, braking and handling are built in, so let's see what Motor Trend Head 2 Head's Randy Pobst can do with these on the car at the Streets of Willow.

The Downshift Episode 65: The One About Tires (14:11)

Motor Trend's The Downshift, a team from Tire Rack, and a team from Motor Trend headed out to Willow Springs for some tire testing. Are performance tires better than factory tires? How much can they really make a difference? These questions and more are answered when Randy Pobst hits the track in a BMW 328i, Mustang V-6, and Subaru BRZ.
