Does this tire fit your vehicle?

Tires are designed specifically for different vehicles and wheel sizes. Tell us about your vehicle or the specific size you want so we can help find the right tires for you.

The Ridge Grappler is Nitto's Rugged All-Terrain tire developed for drivers of SUVs, Jeeps, and pickup trucks seeking a stylish, capable, and durable off-road tire that can be reasonably driven in towns and highways in-between their adventures.

The Ridge Grappler's durable compound is molded into a symmetric tread pattern featuring robust reinforced tread blocks with tapered edges which optimize surface contact for competent dry grip. Variable pitch tread blocks of slightly different sizes reduce road noise for enhanced on-road comfort. Step block edges and staggered shoulder lugs combine for advantageous grip characteristics across many all-terrain environments. The Lateral zig-zag patterned Z grooves promote efficient water evacuation to the shoulder notches, while sipes in the tread blocks assist hydroplaning resistance and wet traction on paved surfaces. A high void ratio and multitudinous biting edges deliver confident traction in light snow.

Internal Construction of the Ridge Grappler includes a two-ply reinforced polyester casing for durability and ride comfort. Two high-tensile steel belts offer a sturdy foundation for even load distribution across the footprint. Two nylon reinforcement plies further stabilize the tread for high-speed handling and durability.

As with all Grappler tires, each Ridge Grappler tire features two unique sidewall designs. One side is more traditional while the other features a more aggressive block design.

...The absolute best tire I've ever had for highway wet road usage...

Tires were new with my 2021 Tundra 4WD Truck purchase (Nov 2020). Nearly 60k driven to date. The absolute best tire I've ever had for highway wet road usage. You will hear the road roar; this has advantages especially when it comes to scaring off deer. Handles very well on dirt and gravel roads. Haven't experienced snow or ice, but would expect solid performance.

I used to cringe when I had to drive on wet roads, not anymore. These Nitto tires don't spin at all when taking off from a stop. I can force a spin, but that is on me...

I can only compare them to the Wranglers. These are a big improvement. The first thing I noticed is how much quieter they are. They are by no means street tire quiet, but you won't have to crank the stereo up to drown out the noise as was required with the Wranglers. You will still get bounced around with the big bumps, but they handle typical road imperfections very well. Handling is about the same as the Wranglers, which is to say very good. Here is the night and day difference: wet roads. I used to cringe when I had to drive on wet roads, not anymore. These Nitto tires don't spin at all when taking off from a stop. I can force a spin, but that is on me. The safety factor alone, being able to drive with confidence on wet roads, made this purchase worthwhile.

Was really surprised with the ride comfort and off-road performance of these tires. Very pleased with how it handed the overlanding trips we have taken both in the Eastern and Mid-West. I have had this tire on highway, dirt, gravel, mud, snow, and rocks. I cannot complain about how it performed in any of these environments. I will be replacing these with another set when that time comes.

...snow driving was good going up highway 80 but it did get squirrelly on occasion...

These tires have been great, they've lasted 80k miles of hard driving and im still at about 4/32 . Only gripe is a little road noise as they have worn(I'm used to it) and loss of traction in some moderate snow. Overall snow driving was good going up highway 80 but it did get squirrelly on occasion. All other conditions have been to my satisfaction. Just Wish they weren't pricey but hey they large tires. I did lose about 7mpg but again to be expected with larger heavy off road tires. I would definitely purchase again if it's in the budget.

...Dry traction: no complaints at all. Excellent performer. I live where the highways have lots of curves and I have no qualms with taking curves at 10-15 MPH over the posted recommendation...

I decided my review of the Nitto Ridge Grappler would wait until I've seen them through their lifespan. After 40,000+ miles, it's time.
Overall, this is a really good tire. Would I buy them again? Yes, if I lived in a warmer, drier climate. Any hang-ups I have with the Ridge Grappler are probably as much about the Tundra's rear-end torque in 2WD as anything to do with the tire. I don't care about ride quality because...it's a truck. The ride was noticeably more stiff than the OEM tires, but you're moving up to Load Range E on a 1/2T truck. Road noise? That's what SiriusXM is for. Now for the Nitty gritty...
Dry traction: no complaints at all. Excellent performer. I live where the highways have lots of curves and I have no qualms with taking curves at 10-15 MPH over the posted recommendation. From brake to Wide Open Throttle there are occasionally some chirps, and there are short breaks in traction over the painted Stop lines at an intersection, but acceleration is confident, reliable, and predictable. Hard braking is just as confident.
Wet traction: under normal highway driving, performance is what you'd expect. Never had any problems in the curves. Acceleration, however...the light rear end and heavy torque makes wet acceleration interesting. Even at 40 MPH, throttling up for on-ramps on the interstate can get a little squirrelly when the truck downshifts to gain speed. Hard braking on wet pavement is better than the acceleration, but there's more weight in the front.
Snow traction: again, under normal driving on snow-covered roads, performance is satisfactory. There is a bit more understeer if you're in 2WD, and 2WD acceleration can be a challenge - even light acceleration from full-stop. 4WD in the snow feels like you could go nearly anywhere, even on hard packed snow.
Off-road: Dry or mud, compared to Courser A/T (2 or 3), BFG A/T3, and General Grabbers, one of the best of any tires I've had on any truck.

...Dry traction seems fine with a tendency to understeer...

The tires are noisy as any deep groove tire would be. Dry traction seems fine with a tendency to understeer. In wet conditions, the car slides around turns even in 4 wheel auto. In light snow, stopping distance is poor and so is cornering ability. Really surprised how sloppy they are in adverse conditions.

...After 12k miles they still look brand new. I plan to get 60k-70k miles out of them.

I took a long time to research tires for my jeep. My choices came down to these or the BFG K02s. I thought these looked more aggressive but still streetable. The price difference wasn't enough to sway either way, but everything i looked at i compared to these. I figured if I went with something different I would have a long time to regret my purchase, so I ended up getting the Nitto ridge grappler. I'm so glad I did! I live near daytona beach and I drive on the beach a lot. These tires are amazing in the sand. I have no worries about getting stuck on the beach. I drive past other 4x4s stuck in the sand almost daily. I found some really great mud trails and these tires have never let me down. They are fairly quiet considering the aggressive tread design. Just don't expect "sport sedan quiet."
There are a few unexpected qualities, but I wouldn't call them negative. 1. The weight. Because of the weight, it takes 2 people to remove and install the wheel. 2. The size. I recommend having a 4x4 shop install them vs a tire shop. The speedo will have to be adjusted. What i didn't think about was the gear ratios. My jeep struggles to switch to 5th gear at 80 mph. It definitely puts a strain on the transmission. I will be getting new gears front and back very soon. Gas mileage in a jeep really --- to begin with. I went from about 15.5 mpg to about 12.5 mpg. This is mostly due to the transmission not using 5th gear much. The new gears should help, but if you want great gas mileage buy a prius, not a jeep. One last thing I didn't think of at the time, if you use a car wash, check with them first and find out if they have a maximum tire width. I used an older car wash that had a narrow track, and it wouldn't fit anymore. I had to switch to a newer car wash that cost more.
Overall, I love these tires. They have never left me stranded. After 12k miles they still look brand new. I plan to get 60k-70k miles out of them.
