Italians have always identified the color red with passion. And while red sports cars are probably the most identifiable example when it comes to driving passion, there is also Pirelli's P Zero Rosso (Rosso, ro' so, Italian for red). P Zero Rosso Max Performance Summer tires were developed to combine high performance, high speed and a high degree of comfort.
Specific design techniques, raw materials and manufacturing methods have been incorporated to produce Pirelli's most comfortable Max Performance tires. Pirelli's warranty does not cover tires that develop compound cracking due to use in ambient temperatures below 45° Fahrenheit (7° Celsius), so the P Zero Rosso, like all summer tires, is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The P Zero Rosso system includes both asymmetric and directional tread designs, each tuned to satisfy the unique performance needs of different types of vehicles and uses. The P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico is the most widely used because it's designed for both front and rear axle positions of front engine front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive cars (and on all cars driven on the track). The P Zero Rosso Direzionale is designed to offer enhanced hydroplaning resistance and is primarily for use on the lighter load carrying front axle positions of mid-engine and rear-engine rear-wheel drive cars (which are then combined with the P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico tires on the rear axle positions).
Both of the P Zero Rosso tread patterns are elegant. The Asimmetrico tread pattern retains the "Zero concept" of earlier P Zero tires by combining a semi-slick center rib that enhances driving precision while accelerating and braking with robust outer shoulder and intermediate tread blocks that are connected by circumferential "multi-ring" ribs to enhance dry grip. The independent blocks of the inner intermediate rib and inside shoulder are separated by wide grooves to help eject water to reduce hydroplaning and enhance wet grip. Considerable use has been made of curved grooves, which complement the circumferential grooves to reduce noise.
P Zero Rosso tires use a silica-enhanced tread compound to provide better grip in low temperatures in the wet and lower rolling resistance in the dry. The tread is supported by PenTec cord (a material developed by Allied Signal for space exploration) which is used to reinforce lightweight steel belts and give more high-speed stability while reducing tire weight and temporary flat spotting when parked overnight.
While most Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires wear a red "P Zero" logo, selected sizes simply feature the "Rosso" logo as part of the embossed black sidewall styling along with the black letters.

Testing Dunlop's Latest Max Performance Summer Tire (03:37)
Max Performance Summer tires blend the latest technologies into a package that can maximize acceleration, braking and cornering power while remaining civilized enough for the daily commute or a night on the town.
The Sport Maxx TT is the newest from Dunlop in this category. It combines a motorsports-inspired tread compound with Touch Technology for enhanced tire-to-driver communication and Kevlar-reinforced sidewalls for handling. Has it maximized Max Performance? We found out when we compared it to three popular tires.
Customers praise the Pirelli P Zero Rosso for outstanding dry traction (9-10 ratings) and confident cornering, with many highlighting its precise steering and stability. Wet traction receives generally positive feedback (6-8 range), though some note reduced grip in heavy rain or standing water. Ride comfort earns praise for smoothness and low noise, though a few report occasional harshness. Treadwear is a common concern, with many ratings in the 0-5 range indicating shorter lifespan than expected. As a max performance summer tire, it excels in dry conditions and delivers reliable wet handling for spirited driving, but buyers prioritizing longevity may find its wear rate a drawback.

...Even in rainy weather, I have been riding with magnetic grip to the freeway (I do not encourage this type of driving)... Did I mention these tire allow me to go mud bogging up hill on rain drenched Georgia clay roads without needing a tow...
I love the way my car handles, grips, and responds in general. It has a great look on my Jaguar XJR. I am a pastor which means I have engagements that arre sometimes far apart with little time to get there. No problem in my XJR with 370 horses ready to go!! This is just what I need to get where I need to be when paired with the awesome P-Zero Rosso. I feel safe and confident that I will stay glued to road. Curves are no match for the gripping powere of this tire. Even in rainy weather, I have been riding 100mph plus with magnetic grip to the freeway (I do not encourage this type of driving). I dont want to put anything else on my XJR. Only one thing makes me consider from time to time another tire. I need to take out a second mortgage just to buy tires sometimes twice a year. The back ones sho signs if wear within 5,000 miles. I am shocked that I can get 20,000 of the front tires. I may seem smart to rotate them but I dont. When the back ones go bad I move the front to the back and buy new front tires. This keeps me from spending close to almost $2000.00 twice a year on tires. Although they are expensive, I dont know if I would trust another tire up at speeds on a country road up 140mph. Did I mention these tire allow me to go mud bogging up hill on rain drenched Georgia clay roads without needing a tow. Got to love this tire!!

...The grip is better, the tires are more communicative, the lateral grip is astounding and the traction is phenomenal...
I drive a 2001 Porsche Boxster S with the European M030 sport suspension (purchased as parts and installed by Porsche specialist since it was not available as a factory installed option on a USA car). I love the N4 PZero Rosso Asimmetricos far more than the OEM PZero Asimmetricos that came from the factory. The grip is better, the tires are more communicative, the lateral grip is astounding and the traction is phenomenal. Ride comfort is probably an oxymoron with this suspension and tire setup but precision control is what I`m after and ride harshness is of no consequence to me. And I drive the car daily.
Road noise is also a nonissue for me but isn`t bad in my opinion nonetheless. Tire wear is rapid; I am on my fifth set of tires at 37,000 miles and yes, the alignment is checked regularly. I am more than willing to trade longevity for the performance these tires provide and besides, it is alwasy a thrill to install a new set of tires, break them in and then have some serious fun! I intend to keep buying PZero Rosso Asimmetricos for my car for the foreseeable future and will likely install them on subsequent sports cars. I highly recommend these tires.

...Good wet weather tyre until the last 10-15% of tyre life when it drops off quickly (most tyres would anyway)...
Not a cheap tyre, and it does wear faster than some but the predicability of this tyre when driven close to the limit is impressive. It doesn't just "let go" like some other tyres I've driven on, it makes you very aware when it approachs it's limits.
Good wet weather tyre until the last 10-15% of tyre life when it drops off quickly (most tyres would anyway).
Very comfortable and quiet tyre, good for a daily driver witha bit of spirited driving on weekends.
Have taken them to the track and they handled it without any problems, not as much grip as a dedicated track tyre but still very good.

...They have tremendous grip and a stiff ride, but that was to be expected...
These tires were OEM on the Audi. They have great grip, but they wore out within 15,000 miles (down to the wear bars). They have tremendous grip and a stiff ride, but that was to be expected. The noise level and ride deteriorated as the tires wore out. I would have bought these again but replacing the tires every 15,000 miles would have gotten very expensive... especially these. I replaced them with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (that have a 45,000 mile treadwear warranty).

I would credit some of this amazing longevity to the quality of the car suspension and lots of pothole-free highway driving at well above reasonable speed...
I had a set of PZero Rosso tires (275/40R19 back, 245/35R19 front) coming as part of my BMW 745i sport package. Got the back pair replaced at 5 years at around 75K miles just before hitting the wear indicator. I would credit some of this amazing longevity to the quality of the car suspension and lots of pothole-free highway driving at well above reasonable speed. Getting the front pair replaced today at 86K miles. BTW, this set has never been balanced or rotated (different size, anyway). Smooth ride, even wear, highly recommend these for warm climate driving.

...This tire is almost tied with the S-03 in performance, but the Pirelli is much more comfortable and quiet. To me, an ideal blend...
These replace Dunlop SP8000, on an E320 with Eibach springs and AMG 17" Wheels. After reading about Bridgestone S-03 PP, Michelin, Dunlop SP9000, and others, the Performance Tests indicated that this new Pirelli uniquely combines a quiet, comfortable ride with awesome grip wet and dry, and tire wear. This tire is almost tied with the S-03 in performance, but the Pirelli is much more comfortable and quiet. To me, an ideal blend. The only area where I feel my old Dunlops were better was in steering response, that it, you move the wheel and the tires appear to respond instantaneously....this because the SP8000 was indeed a rock hard, very stiff tire that treated bumps not much differently than a bare rim. Oh, and the Pirelli's don't look that aggressive either.

...Ride quality on the highway is superb with good directional stability and very low noise.
These tires have it all (so far). Ride quality on the highway is superb with good directional stability and very low noise. On the off ramps it's as if you're on rails, except you can change your line half way through with no repercussions. Stopping power is extraordinary. At 60 mph you put your foot into it and it's like ----s hand reaching down to stop you. The grip is so strong the ABS doesn't kick in until below 15 mph. They perform so well that I'm concerned as to how long they can last. I only have 3,000 miles so far with no apparent wear so those concerns could be unfounded. They have transformed this nice family car into a sports sedan. I'm so pleased that I'm ordering set for my wife's new Saab and using the OEM wheels and tires for the winter. I guess that's the ultimate vote of confidence.

...After one season, 12,625 miles on a 230HP X5, the tires are close to the wear bars and will need replaced... tread life is unacceptable.
I am very unhappy with these Pirelli's, and will not buy them again. After installation, I was experiencing vibration at highway speeds. When I returned to the installer, the technician found the tires had a large amount of "runout" on the Hunter Road Force balancer (The Road Force measurement is a number on the machine based on inconsistent tire sidewall stiffness). To try and reduce the vibration, the technician rotated the tire on the rim, then re-balanced the assembly. This improved Road Force number, but it remained high compared to my previous set of Michelin Diamaris. The vibration is still present especially when the tires are "cold." After one season, 12,625 miles on a 230HP X5, the tires are close to the wear bars and will need replaced. These tires performed more like a private-label budget brand than what I would expect from a world-class manufacturer. Noise levels are average, and have worsened as the tires are wearing. Dry handing is average, hydroplaning is an issue now that they are wearing, and tread life is unacceptable.

Not too pleased at the treadwear of this tire. I was hoping to get at least 30,000 miles out of the tires that are so expensive. I am disappointed that I already need to replace them. The other problem I have is the tires have seemed to have hardened which has diminished the driving quality of the tire. They seem to now push and pull the car all over the road.

Ive had these tires for a total of 12000 miles. I replaced the first set of rears at 4700 miles, the second set after 6000 miles and now the third set of rears is toast. The fronts still have over half of the treadlife remaining. Wet performance is terrifying. This is also the worst tire wear I have ever experienced, even considering that 993s are notoriously hard on rear tires.
My car is a daily driver, used mostly on open roads. Theres very little traffic around here. I have not tracked it. Recently, Ive started driving like grampa to try to stem the excessive treadwear, but it has not slowed. Im getting rid of these so I will no longer be passed by SUV drivers who are not worried about tire wear. Frankly, I feel like Pirelli should return my money, but there is no warranty on these tires.
