The Assurance featuring Fuel Max Technology is Goodyear's mid-tier Passenger All-Season tire designed for the drivers of cars, coupes, vans and crossover vehicles looking for affordably priced tires offering long wear, wet traction and low rolling resistance as some of their top priorities. The Assurance Fuel Max is designed to provide year-round confidence in wet, dry and wintry weather conditions, including in light snow, as well as offers lower rolling resistance to enhance vehicle fuel economy over the tire's lifetime.

The Assurance Fuel Max molds a low rolling resistance all-season compound into a tread design featuring distinct zones. Inboard and outboard Dry Tread Zones feature strong shoulder blocks to enhance handling in dry conditions, while a central Wet Tread Zone features Dual Aquachannel grooves that evacuate water to promote traction in wet weather. A virtually continuous notched center rib combined with circumferential shoulder grooves blend dry road stability and even treadwear with traction in snowy conditions. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts (H-speed rated sizes are reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon belt edge strips) on top of a polyester casing that enhances ride quality.

*Specific sizes featuring Fuel Max Technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire's Specs tab.

Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max Reviews

Customers think the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max delivers excellent treadwear (9-10 ratings dominate) and a smooth, quiet ride, with many praising its comfort for daily driving. Winter traction shows mixed results, with some customers noting limited confidence in snow and ice despite its all-season design. Wet traction earns consistent praise for secure handling and hydroplaning resistance, while dry traction receives strong marks for stability and responsiveness. As a standard touring all-season tire, it aligns well with everyday use, offering reliable mileage and predictable performance in typical conditions-though those in harsh winter climates may want to consider dedicated winter tires.

Most customers rate wet traction highly, with scores mostly 7-10. The Assurance Fuel Max delivers confident wet braking and hydroplaning resistance, though a few lower scores suggest occasional variability in heavy rain. Strong all-season performance aligns with its touring design.

These tires are pretty awful in snow and ice. That surprised me because they are excellent in rain...

These came OEM on my 2018 Cruze LT. I bought the car in upstate New York (somewhat rural), before moving to Southern California (suburbs). So I’ve experienced them in different weather and road conditions.

Positives: Tread life; gas mileage; dry handling; wet handling. In Southern California, these are pretty good tires.

Negatives: Snow and ice. These tires are pretty awful in snow and ice. That surprised me because they are excellent in rain. I’ve since learned that for tires, wet handling and dry handling is more similar than wet handling and snow/ice handling. These are NOT the tires you want in snowy country.

Average: Dry or wet cornering; general noise level; bumps and road imperfections. These tires are decent, but not exceptional, in these areas. I’m differentiating between handling and cornering. These tires are better at handling than at cornering, if that makes sense.

Overall, these are decent tires, especially in Southern California where we don’t get snow and very rarely get ice and it’s mostly highway or suburban driving in sunny weather with rain in winter. And the tread life has been excellent so far. But if you live where you get a lot of snow and ice, do yourself a favor and get something else.

...I love how quiet these tires have been, how well they grip the road when dry and when wet, unless it is really coming down.

These Goodyear Assurance tires came with the car when I bought my 2014 Chevy Cruze Eco five years ago. I now have 71,000 miles on them. I was reviewing the various options I have for replacements. I think I will be able to safely run them for another 10,000 miles or more before replacing them.

I love how quiet these tires have been, how well they grip the road when dry and when wet, unless it is really coming down. Snow handling is adequate if you pay attention and don't drive foolish. Gas mileage has exceeded the rated mileage both city, highway and combined.

Also, I've never had a flat and have read these are tough tires...good thing since I have no spare in this car!

Unless there is something else that really stands out here at tirerack.com, I will stick with the tires that have served me so well.

...The tires have held up well and dry handling is good...

Bought this tire to replace a damaged one that was on the car when I bought it, since it matched the other three. The tires have held up well and dry handing is good. I don't know if the lack of traction in the snow is related to the tires or light weight of the car, I am used to bigger cars. All in all I am happy with the tires.

...At around 7/32 I began hydroplaning more frequently but dry traction has stayed the same...

I've put about 33,500 miles on these tires with my new car (they're original equipment) and I must say they're pretty decent but by no means the best. However, I am very impressed by the tread life. You're probably thinking this many miles isn't that much but I drive for a living and have a lead foot at times. If I can get close to 34,000 and still have 5/32 of tread left I'd bet money your average driver can get double this number with the same amount of wear. At around 7/32 I began hydroplaning more frequently but dry traction has stayed the same. If you live up North I would look elsewhere (they're not very good in the snow). They're also pretty quiet and they take corners very well. All in all a safe choice.

...the tires are quite comfortable...

These were on my Chrysler 200 Limited Platinum 4 cylinder when purchased new in 2017. Overall they are a good tire. They are at 4/32 at 40,631, rotated regularly, which is the best mileage I've ever gotten out of a tire. I've done a lot of driving the past couple years which was 90% highway, long trips. The noise factor is horrible and has been consistent since the tires were new. However, I get above average gas mileage and the tires are quite comfortable. The car is rated at 36 MPG highway and I average 40 MPG, North/South and East/West interstates. They are good in rain and light snow. The car is pretty light, so you can't put everything on the tires. I won't purchase these again simply because of the noise factor but otherwise I would.

...The tires have been very quiet and provide a very comfortable ride on good roads...

Just 500 miles on this tire so far. Bought these on short notice while on vacation. Had a belt break on the old set of Yokohama Avids. So far, just dry pavement driving as we didn't see any rain to speak of on our way home. Replaced an H-rated tire with this T-rated tire--still trying to judge whether there's much of a difference. The tires have been very quiet and provide a very comfortable ride on good roads. The stopping distances are initially a little longer than the well-worn previous Yokohama's. Not sure if this will continue to be the case. The 2005 Odyssey provides a lot of feedback for the driver, so these tires seem to be holding up their part of the bargain. Will update this review in the coming months. The fuel economy aspect has not been monitored.

...These are by far the quietest and smoothest riding tires I have ever had. I took Michelin tires off that were very good tires, but were loud and hard-riding. The difference was remarkable!...

As I get older, I am more interested in a comfortable and quiet ride than I am performance. These are by far the quietest and smoothest riding tires I have ever had. I took Michelin tires off that were very good tires, but were loud and hard-riding. The difference was remarkable! And, I have not found anything in their handling that I can complain about. I do not expect these to wear like the Michelins, but especially with the significantly lower price, I am fine with that. We have had this same tire on my wife's Lexus for years, and were so pleased that I bought them for my MDX. I love these tires... period!

...I currently have around 50K on the set and they still run great. They're around 4/32nds at the moment so will need to be replaced shortly, but for the price they were a decent tire and I would consider purchasing them again in the future for a 3 season tire.

Great tires. I chose to replace the tires on the car (which were Goodyear Assurance tires) with the fuel max version of the line. I'm unsure if fuel economy was affected, but these were marginally more, so the decision was easy. These tires have been fairly dependable and have had no issues as far as performance for the most part. They do lack in winter/snowy conditions, but that is to be expected with an all-season tire. I had the original tires on my 2014 Accord EX for 96,300 miles!!. Still had some tread for a couple of 1000 miles . Changed it early before winter snow. Folks at the garage where I service my car were very very surprised that this lasted so long! I drive 110 miles daily and not a very aggressive driver. I maintain approx 65-70 mph on highways on regular days. The Goodyear Assurance are great tires. I have driven in light and heavy snow as well, and the performance has been great. Never lost traction on snow. I get great gas mileage too. Averages 37.8 miles per gallon on highway. A 15 gallon is good for 520+ miles. The tires are very quite on asphalt road, but a little noisy on concrete roads. I replaced all the 4 tires with another set of the same Goodyear Assurance. I am hoping another 90,000+ miles on it.

Winter traction ratings for the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max are unimpressive, with many scores between 0-6. Customers report slippery conditions, getting stuck, and a lack of snow traction despite its all-season intent. Some note sketchy handling in deeper snow or ice.

...I agree with the poor winter response on these...

Tires came on the Cruze when purchased. Tires show very minimal wear at 25,300 miles. I agree with the poor winter response on these, but I have no noise issues or poor wear issues. Time will tell, but I'd certainly consider these again when Tires are needed.

...Don't even think about taking these out in the snow because you will end up hitting a telephone pole or another car with the lack of traction they have in light to medium snow. The same can be said for icy conditions, I'd rather go walking on ice than having these tires...

If having the highest possible MPG is your goal, then these are the tires for you. However, for everything else it is mediocre. Cornering with these tires when it is raining is an absolute pain. You never know if, when, your tires are going to slip. Even going the recommended 15 mph throw some curvy roads is nerve racking when you know you're tires don't have the best traction. These tires do get better when it's dry, but the road noise is really apparent even if you are going under 30 mph. Don't even think about taking these out in the snow because you will end up hitting a telephone pole or another car with the lack of traction they have in light to medium snow. The same can be said for icy conditions, I'd rather go walking on ice than having these tires. Then there's the price, the only reason I got these tires was because my local tire shop didn't have any other option for my specific vehicle. The price for the tires combined with the installation fee and labor comes out to almost $400 for two tires. There are way better options out there for 15 inch tires. Again, if MPG is your ABSOLUTELY number one priority then the price is worth it. My Prius C gets close to 50 mpg in the city with around 45 of pure Highway driving. The driving experience is absolutely horrendous, but I attribute most of that to the Prius C being a boring car.
