The ExtremeContact Sport 02 is Continental’s next-generation Max Performance Summer tire, developed for drivers of sports cars, performance coupes, sedans, and muscle cars seeking a satisfying balance of traction and handling, quiet comfort, and tread life. Like all summer tires, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 is not intended to be driven, stored, or serviced in near- or below-freezing temperatures, through snow, or on ice.

ExtremeContact Sport 02 callouts

Utilizing a specialized summer-only compound molded into a ribbed asymmetric design, the ExtremeContact Sport 02 features Continental's SportPlus Technology, which focuses on precise handling, wet traction, and enhanced wear for well-rounded maximum performance. The outside shoulder features wide tread blocks for lateral grip and high-speed handling, and the continuous center rib provides constant rubber-to-road contact for solid on-center feel. A wide, optimized footprint evenly distributes pressure across the face of the tire for improved tread life. Continental employs its patented +Silane tread compound technology to provide sure-footed handling in damp conditions, and deep, circumferential grooves offer efficient pathways for water evacuation through the contact patch for hydroplane resistance.

The internal construction of the ExtremeContact Sport 02 consists of a two-ply polyester casing supporting two steel belts. A polyamide reinforcement ply adds high-speed stability and performance.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 Reviews

Customer feedback data reveals strong performance in dry traction, with scores consistently in the 9-10 range, highlighting precise cornering and responsive handling ideal for summer driving. Wet traction earns praise for reliable grip, though a few users note minor hydroplaning concerns in heavy rain. Comfort receives mostly positive ratings (7-10), with many appreciating a smooth ride despite occasional mentions of road noise. Treadwear scores (7-10) suggest durability aligns well with expectations for a max performance summer tire, though some prioritize grip over longevity. Overall, the tire excels in its intended categories, delivering confident dry/wet performance while balancing comfort for spirited driving.

These tires are more secure, grippy, and responsive than the OEM Bridgestones, both dry and wet. In fact, if you like to slide around corners, you won't like these. I absolutely love them and will buy them again.

...Perform very well in wet conditions...

Overall, very pleased with these tires. Replaced the Michelin Pilot Sport 4's that were on the car previously (twice) and feel that these have been equal, if not superior, to the Michelins.

Perform very well in wet conditions.

Would not hesitate purchasing again.

...The traction in the dry is phenomenal. You would have to be doing something really stupid to exceed their limits on public roads...

These are by far the best tires I've ever owned in terms of performance. The traction in the dry is phenomenal. You would have to be doing something really stupid to exceed their limits on public roads. Even in the wet, the limits are very high. My car isn't very powerful by modern standards (<250 hp), so I have to be trying hard to break the rear end loose in the wet, and it's nearly impossible in the dry.* (*See note below about the temperature rating.) The suspension on my car has been setup for track and autocross (upgraded sway bars, shocks, camber plates, etc.), and I live in a rural area with lots of great back country roads. These tires allow me to enjoy the car's chassis dynamics without worrying about running out of grip. Between the car and the tires, the mechanical grip inspires tons of confidence. I hope to take this car to the local track this summer so I can safely explore a bit more of their capability.

Do keep in mind that these are summer tires. I ran them from April until Thanksgiving in 2024, and I just put them back on in March of 2025. There have been a few morning commutes where the temperature has dipped below the recommended 40F minimum temperature. I've been cautious on those days and haven't had any problems. However, on one occasion when the temperature was ~37F, I did get a little throttle-on oversteer on a spirited highway exit. That's about the only time the rear has come around at all in the dry, and I attribute it to the temperature. But even then the car and tires' behavior was natural and progressive, easy to catch and correct - it was actually a beautiful thing to experience :).

The only unknown at this point is the treadwear. My car has a lot of negative camber, so the insides have worn quickly on previous tires. I could see a little bit of wear after the first ~7000 miles, but it seemed better than the cheap tires I had before. We'll see after this coming summer.

...Great dry traction...

Very happy so far. My Corvette is supercharged and needs a good set of sticky tires to put the extra torque to the road. These outperform the Michelin Super Sports that I was using previously. Great dry traction. They're quiet and offer a nice smooth ride. I don't really drive in the rain much, so I can't speak to wet performance. I also haven't had them long enough to rate the wear. However, I can highly recommend them to anyone trying to the the maximum possible performance out of a street tire.

...It seems to have better comfort than both of those, as well as better noise characteristics...

A highly under-rated tire. I previously had Michelin PS4 and P-Zero tires. It seems to have better comfort than both of those, as well as better noise characteristics. Steering feel and response is better than the PS4, and on-par with the P-zero. Traction has wonderfully smooth break-away, it is a benign tire on autocross. I have yet to uncover a flaw with this tire. I like that it has equal grip to the PS4, but with better manners. In the wet, it is leagues better than the P-zero, and on-par with the PS4. The only factor that seems noticeable as compared to the PS4 on daily driving is the better steering response. If I had to rate the 3 tires, I'd make the PS4 and Conti a tie, with the P-Zero falling behind, mostly due to terrible wet weather grip

...Handling, ride quality and noise, dry and wet grip, and wear...

Until I tried this tire, I didn’t think there was anything better than Michelin Pilots. But the Continentals have exceeded all expectations. Just a brilliant tire in every respect. Handling, ride quality and noise, dry and wet grip, and wear. A tire you can push hard and gives up nothing.

...I drive hard and honestly they lasted very long I didn't expect them to last as long as they did I'd say they truly lasted to about 9-10k miles but even rn having driven on them for 14k miles when they heat up they still hook in first...

So I should’ve changed these about 4-5k miles ago but I haven’t I finally am but I just have to say the performance on these tires are very good especially at the price you’re getting a top 3 tire on the market right now when these get a little warm the grip even from first gear is insane absolutely no spin it hooks like glue I drive hard and honestly they lasted very long I didn’t expect them to last as long as they did I’d say they truly lasted to about 9-10k miles but even rn having driven on them for 14kmiles when they heat up they still hook in first if you’re looking for a good tire to hook up virtually anywhere go with these they hook they take corners like butter and they’re actually comfortable to drive on for those chill drives and respond well in the rain I rate them a 20/10 would buy again
