Evolving from the Proxes R888, the Proxes R888R is Toyo's Racetrack & Autocross Only tire for driving enthusiasts participating in track days, road racing and high-performance driver education events. Like all Racetrack & Autocross Only tires, Proxes R888R radials are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. It's also essential these tires be stored indoors at temperatures maintained above 15 degrees F.

Proxes R888R tires feature an R-compound tread that quickly reaches operating temperature and provides high grip levels for maximum cornering traction. The tread compound is molded into an aggressive, asymmetric tread pattern with massive outboard shoulder blocks to provide the lateral grip needed when driving on the track. Continual development of the contact patch gives the Proxes R888R greater levels of dry traction for improved braking, acceleration and cornering versus its predecessor.

While Proxes R888R radials meet D.O.T. requirements, they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions when shaved or worn where standing water is present and there is a risk of hydroplaning. Drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions.

Internal construction of the R888R features a two- or three-ply (depending on size) Rayon casing supporting two wide, high-tensile steel belts. A spirally-wound nylon reinforcement ply provides additional high-speed stability and durability.

Toyo Tires recommends the following general set-up guidelines for the Proxes R888R:

  • Operating Temperature: 160°-220° F
  • Hot Inflation Pressures: 32 to 38 PSI
  • Camber: -1° to -3°
  • Caster: As much positive as possible

Toyo Proxes R888R Reviews

Customers think the Toyo Proxes R888R delivers exceptional dry traction and predictable grip, making it a top choice for track days, autocross, and HPDE events. Enthusiasts praise its quick warm-up time and consistent performance during extended sessions, though some note reduced longevity compared to the original R888. Wet traction receives cautious feedback, with many reporting hydroplaning risks and limited confidence in rain-best reserved for dry conditions. Treadwear is viewed positively for a 100TW tire, offering decent durability through multiple heat cycles when used primarily on track, though street-driven sets may wear rapidly. Ideal for drivers prioritizing peak dry performance over all-weather versatility.

279 reviews mention "Dry Traction"

  • 268 positive
  • 11 negative

Customers praise the Toyo Proxes R888R's exceptional dry traction, with many scoring 9s and 10s for its "sticky" grip, predictable cornering, and confidence-inspiring performance in track, autocross, and HPDE scenarios. Reviewers highlight rapid heat buildup, consistent lap times, and strong acceleration/braking, even on high-horsepower cars. While some note sensitivity to pressure/temp management during extended sessions, most emphasize outstanding dry-weather handling as a top-tier track-focused tire.

...Floor it in 2nd and she simply rockets forward. 7k rpm 2-3 shifts, no problem...

Simply amazing. Car makes 450whp and it hooks up perfectly with these Toyos. Came from Nitto NT555G2s, which were like driving on ice, and by comparison, these Proxes are night and day. Floor it in 2nd and she simply rockets forward. 7k rpm 2-3 shifts, no problem. Nittos almost killed me, these Toyos simply stick and perfectly match the car’s power output.

Customers praise the R888R's treadwear, with many scoring 9s and 10s for durability through multiple track days and heat cycles. Some note accelerated wear under heavy track use, but acknowledge this as expected for a competition-focused compound.

Tires do amazing when dry and hot very sticky very responsive, excellent traction. Decent in wet conditions, bad tendency to hydroplane. Really only drawback is excessive road noise at all speeds.

...No grip just drifting and burnouts.

Horrible tire. No grip. Slower by over 5 seconds a lap vs the Nankang, Bridgestone, cup2's.
Definitely not worth the rubber they're made out of. Complete trash. All they're good for is burnouts. No grip just drifting and burnouts.

...Highly recommend extreme caution if you use this tire on a daily as it has little to no hook on a 250hp fwd vehicle in the rain...

Came in expecting a great tire at the cost of longevity. I got what I was expecting. This is not a standard tire and will wear a lot more than expected which is fine. Highly recommend extreme caution if you use this tire on a daily as it has little to no hook on a 250hp fwd vehicle in the rain. But again, for this kind of tire that is expected.
