The Discoverer S/T Maxx is Cooper's Commercial All-Terrain light truck tire developed for the drivers of pickup trucks, SUVs, full-size crossovers and vans looking for a tough tire that provides the traction needed to navigate the loose terrain of job sites, gravel roads and off-road use. In addition to off-road capabilities, the Discoverer S/T Maxx is designed to deliver confident paved-road performance in dry, wet and wintry conditions, including snow.

The Discoverer S/T Maxx utilizes a cut- and chip-resistance compound molded into a symmetric, hybrid four-five rib design for low pattern noise and to promote even wear. The open pattern and multiple block edges provide the clawing traction necessary when negotiating soft, uneven soil, rocks or gravel. Stone ejector ribs and the non-parallel groove walls help resist rock retention, improving longevity by preventing stone drills that may potentially damage a tire. In-block sipes create the biting edges needed for traction in wet conditions, and the high-void pattern provides ample drainage away from the footprint for hydroplaning resistance. Discoverer S/T Maxx tires are molded to accept optional #15 metal studs to enhance traction on packed snow and ice.

Cooper's Armor Tek3 construction utilizes two 90 degree radial body plies, in addition to a third body ply with an eight degree bias to help reduce gaps between sidewall body cord. Two high-strength steel belts support the tread, while the nylon reinforcement above the steel belts provide high speed durability.

Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx Reviews

Customers praise the Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx for outstanding dry traction (9-10 ratings) and reliable wet performance, with strong hydroplaning resistance (8-10 scores) suited to rugged all-terrain use. Winter traction earns consistent praise in deep snow (8-10), though ice performance shows occasional 7s. Treadwear scores (8-10) highlight durability for heavy-duty use. Comfort receives mostly positive feedback (7-10) for ride quality, but noise levels split opinions-some report noticeable road hum (1-6 scores), while others find it acceptable. ...I live in a dry climate, but when it does rain they handle the wet road well, never hydro plain, but they might spin with too much throttle at acceleration...

It’s an old school skinny 33” tire that gives a truck a little more offroad security without a lift. They’ve been great in every season. In snow you have to remember to air down because fully inflated they seem to want to spin in fresh snow. The “pizza cutter” size allows the tire to dig down in deep snow for traction, they do not float my 7.3 powerstroke cclb truck. I live in a dry climate, but when it does rain they handle the wet road well, never hydro plain, but they might spin with too much throttle at acceleration. They handle Rocky Mountain roads with ease, I’m not concerned with a puncture due to carcass construction. They haven’t seen a ton of mud, but they handled it well. The cooper st maxx clears mud and debris well. I have a gravel driveway and once on the highway rocks are flung out into the fender well regularly. We regularly haul a truck camper in the bed and these tire are always up for the task. They are firm on the road and corner well with great sidewalk stability. I’d run them again for my full size diesel without hesitation.

...I've had now problems in the rain at all...

I generally prefer commercial tires on the little H3, and these don't disappoint. They're great in the gravel and stony backroads of rural Upstate New York, and I've had now problems in the rain at all. What little mud I've encountered gave me zero issues, although I wouldn't suggest trying to get stuck as these will probably dig you deeper. Yes, they grab and throw stones, and yes they have a little road noise... but for aggressive tires meant for practical off-road and backroads, these seem to be just fine. I picked these over the other popular American brand name (which owns Cooper now anyway) because of the road noise complaints and I can say that these are definitely quieter than the other brand on the same vehicle, same size. For reference, these are LT285/75-16E on a 2009 Hummer H3. They look like they belong on this thing to begin with.

...I have experienced some rear tire slipping when cornering on wet pavement in 2WD but don't notice any when in 4-HI or Auto 4WD.

This tire has been almost everything I could have hoped for. It has performed very well in winter slush and snow, and the few times I've had it in muddy conditions. At the time of this review, I have put 65,000 miles on the set with a lot of life left but I still plan to replace them before winter comes around just because I'm not willing to chance making it through a Michigan winter with high mileage tires. I have experienced some rear tire slipping when cornering on wet pavement in 2WD but don't notice any when in 4-HI or Auto 4WD.

...if you get them syped the traction on snow and ice is freaking remarkable!!! best winter/mud/dirt road I've ever had...

Get them syped! This tire is the absolute best tire for winter and mountain driving while maintaining fairly quiet ride on highway (all things considered for big tread pattern tire). they don’t wear out as uneventful as, say, Wrangler Duratrac which I’ve had for years until I shifted to these. if you get them syped the traction on show and ice is freaking remarkable!!! best winter/mud/dirt road I’ve ever had. This tire will never leave you hanging and will get you in and out of the mountains with confidence.

I've had no problem with these tires. Little noisy but I like noise. Responsive on interstate highways as well as off road. Not much wear on them after 20,000 miles. Had deep snowfall in 2018 over 10 inches on road, pulled right through. I recommend!

I do mostly on road driving, interspersed with off-road in mud, snow, river crossings, steep terrain, desert, alpine and dry conditions (hunting and fishing) and the tires give exceptional traction across the board...

I had these Cooper Discover S/T Maxx tires installed on my 2010 Jeep Wrangler, along with new wheels and a leveling lift. It was enough to give my Jeep a bit more height and a very nice, slightly more aggressive look. I do mostly on road driving, interspersed with off-road in mud, snow, river crossings, steep terrain, desert, alpine and dry conditions (hunting and fishing) and the tires give exceptional traction across the board. I will definitely be putting another set on my Jeep when it comes time. With around 65,000 miles already on them, I have at least 15 to 20 thousand more miles left before I'll need a new set. I won't whine about gas mileage. It's to be expected with the aggressive tread pattern and oversize tire. Great tire for the great outdoors!

...they are quiet, get a little noise as they wear which I expect.

I have run 3 sets of these tires on my Dodge dually, wear in a combination on off road and snow is excellent for a 10 ply tire. Stability and traction with a heavy load or towing my toy hauler is great and they are quiet, get a little noise as they wear which I expect.

...These are the best tires I have ever owned, last forever (got over 100k on one set)...

This is my 4th set of Cooper ST MAXX. Have run them on a Jeep, Ford Expedition, and now my 2nd Ram pickup (1500 and now 2500) all lifted all hauled/towed. These are the best tires I have ever owned, last forever (got over 100k on one set) and have the best all around use in many cases and surfaces. I will not put any other tires on my truck. HIGHLY recommend.

I had Cooper ST Maxx on my Ford expedition for 65k miles with plenty of tread left and I got 100k on this set with my ram 1500! Just got a new set as I wanted to upsize 1in otherwise I would have gotten more miles. These tires work great on and off road in dry and inclement weather. I offroad occasionally and they perform in-between an AT and MT tire. On road they tow and haul like a dream! When maxing out my truck with a trailer, full bed or both they always deliver! Never have I been disappointed with this model and I
will continue to choose it for my vehicles. Heck my wife's car would have them if they made it in her size for her suv. I have had many AT and a few MT tires and they were all great, but I feel these are overall the best and the treadlife can't be beat! 100k miles with tread left... WOW!
