Dunlop Grandtrek PT20 

These came as the oem tire on our 2021 rav4 prime. When we first took delivery we noticed that the vehicle was very jarring on the rough pavement we have up north. Upon checking the tire pressure and lowering them from the 50psi they came with down to the recommended 33 psi they feel much better. Initial driving in both rain and a small snow storm indicate passible snow and rain traction. Dunlop is either manufactured by Michelin for vehicles built in north America or Sumitomo for vehicles built in Japan, as in the case for these tires. Both are good manufacturers and should provide good service.

As horrible as it gets. No winter traction at all, snow/ice - almost no braking abilities.
Rain - low traction on accelerating turns.
Dry - it's okay.

We ran the factory Dunlop Grandtrek PT20 on our Toyota RAV4 Prime for about three years and roughly 20,000 miles. We drive conservatively and the vehicle has had no alignment or suspension issues. Even with about half the tread remaining, performance declined noticeably over time.

The first year was fine for daily commuting and road trips even to Canada, but by year two the tires became louder and the ride felt harsher. Wet traction was the biggest issue. Under normal acceleration, like merging onto the highway, the traction control would sometimes kick in due to wheel spin. Winter performance was also disappointing. Despite decent tread depth, the tires struggled on light snow and unplowed residential roads, which reduced our confidence in them.

We replaced them with Michelin CrossClimate 2, and the improvement was immediate. Wet grip is significantly better, the car feels more planted, road noise is lower, and overall stability has improved. For drivers in New England who deal with frequent rain and unpredictable snow, the upgrade to an all-weather snowflake rated was absolutely worth it for my family's safety, even not a CC2.

TLDR:
Horrible tires - never again.
I replaced them after 3k miles because of their horrific behavior in snow and slush.

Fine in the dry, and adequate in the wet.
Sub-standard in snow, and downright dangerous in slush.
Harsh over surface irregularities, and road noise that announces - loudly - every change in surface.

Zero steering feel on my RAV4 hybrid, so the only information you get about the limit of adhesion is once you've gone past it.
Which means that driving in rain or snow is incredibly tense and exhausting.

Details:
My new 2021 RAV4 Hybrid was delivered in mid December - with the Dunlop Grand-T*rds installed.
I loved the RAV4 Hybrid from the get-go, but I immediately started looking for after-market shock-absorbers to try to smooth out the harshness over surface irregularities.
I also noted the absolutely dead steering - but I didn't buy the RAV4 for performance driving...

The tires had more grip in the dry than the dead steering lead me to expect, and never lost grip in the wet - but did aquaplane occasionally when hitting standing water.

Then it snowed.
Firstly, I was disappointed that I had to rock my 4WD SUV - with TRAIL mode enabled - back and forward just to get out of my parking spot.
Then on the road - plowed, and with with maybe 1/4 inch of fresh snow - I could feel the sideways slip on even mild curves, and so I was one of those cars traveling at 20 in a 40 zone, and driving those behind me crazy.

After 3 experiences on the same day of skating through slushy intersections at 3MPH - all with my 4-YO daughter on board - I realized these tires had to go before they caused a collision.

So after 3k miles I replaced them with Michelin CrossClimate2 tires which simultaneously fixed all the issues with my new car.
I no longer need new shocks, I no longer hold up the traffic in the snow, I can stop and turn safely in slush, the steering has feel, rain and standing water are non-events, and the car is quiet and serene on all normal surfaces.

Tire just slipped, has poor traction on light snow and on sharp turning, despite being so slow and careful. Low hydroplaning resistance. Also the road noise became quite high.
It’s OEM on my RAV4 Prime SE 2022 (Bought Oct 22). And I did dutiful factory 5k rotation maintenance.
Replaced these out at 32,956 miles (in Jan 2025) due to safety concerns in NJ weather. I will never buy Dunlop again. Replaced with Michelin Defender 2 - which is working great.
Of note - my prior Camry Hybrid 2012 never slipped - had Michelin tires - despite many heavy snowy / rain seasons. Toyota needs to get rid of Dunlop - needs better stock tires for the RAV4 Prime.

Unimpressive. Poor under wet conditions and snow. Hydroplanes easily. Never felt comfortable in windy or wet conditions. I tried
not to drive in snow, period.
I would not recommend this tire to anyone. Changed them out at 13000 and rid myself of them.

These tires were original equipment on my 2020 RAV4 Hybrid Ltd. I just replaced them at 31,000 miles with Michelin Defender 2 tires rated at 80,000 miles at a cost of $900. The Grandtrek PT20 tires were a total disappointment - noisy, cupped, rough riding. I might have been able to get more miles out of them but I couldn’t stand the noise and rough ride anymore on my car, which except for the horrible original equipment tires is a great car.

Horrid tires. OE on my '25 Rav4 Hybrid Limited. Very noisy, terrible in the rain. When raining I can feel the steering wheel react as the cars tranitions to and from EV mode as the front tires broke loose. Replaced with Pirelli Scorpions a few days ago.

These tires have been alright overall but the tread is really low after only 15,000 miles. I don’t think I’ll make it much past 20k. Regardless of how they perform in other areas, the tread life in unacceptable. I would never purchase or recommend these.

These were the set of tires that came with my vehicle. Within two years and less than 25k miles, I have been notified by the dealership that these tires need to be replaced despite the fact that I went to all of the suggested maintenance and tire balancing appointments I am absolutely floored that these are not even getting me close to 40 to 50 K miles. I drive on very smooth and paved roads. There’s no reason why these tires should have worn down this quickly. Complete scam ! NEVER BUY from this brand of tires.

OE tire on my 2022 Toyota Venza LE. The tires wore evenly (they were rotated every 5k miles), with no cupping. Dry traction is acceptable. Wet traction is not good for a tire that wore out so quickly. At 32k miles they now hydroplane in the rain. We didn't get enough snow these last two winters to judge the tires for this. Soon to be replaced with another brand - leaning towards Continental CrossContact LX25.
