Despite some 9-10 scores, many rate wet traction between 0-6. Customers report slippery handling, hydroplaning, and mediocre wet performance, indicating disappointing results for a summer tire designed for wet conditions.

...These tires have been outstanding proving strong grip and I only slow slightly when the water pours. Braking is little different...
In Miami we have rain.......not drizzle like up north. These tires have been outstanding proving strong grip and I only slow slightly when the water pours. Braking is little different. On a dry road you'll get thrown across the car before the grip loosens. I've had my 2011 X5 since it was new 11/2010. I picked it up at the plant in Greenville, SC. I haven't a clue why some reviewers are rating this tire not so well. My rear tire is the same but in a 315/35R20 and the combo looks awesome.
Thats the good news and now for the not so good news....... While the performance is great, the durability is not. With about 82,000 miles currently, the car has been through 4 sets of tires. The tread life isn't very good. If all goes well and you keep the tires properly inflated, you'll see the outside tread on the corner edge of the tire get low to the point it's smooth while the flat surface is still meaty........change the tire. If the tire is not properly cared for you may see a waffling effect on that same edge which will kill the tire within a few months. The tire gets a high/low effect on this area and you'll hear it during driving once it becomes bad. I've rarely seen this on tires but it's happened twice with this brand. If you're desperate to get super milage/time with a tire and you're counting the change you need for tires, don't buy the Dunlops. If you want super performance with a sticky tire and badass look, this is for you. That said, remember that I drive these tires primarily in Miami so my roads are either melty hot or hurricane wet which are great for these Dunlop Sport Maxx's. I'm actually about to change my tires to an all season for driving in New England soon and yes, I'm slowing down.

...Excellent grip in both dry and wet. Stick very well in turns, accelerating and braking...
I would normally wait to leave a review until i have more mile but since there are so few reviews i figured i would leave. I'm experienced with tires having pilot sports, potenza re050, etc. I find these tires to be very good. Excellent grip in both dry and wet. Stick very well in turns, accelerating and braking. Comfort on a runflat will never be as comfortable as a non-runflat however i think these are very good considering even with low profile (245/40/19 275/35/19). Cannot yet comment on wear, hydroplaning or bubbles in sidewall since i haven't had long enough yet. will update when more miles acquired.

...When brand new, they are fantastic in wet conditions... But since they wear incredibly fast, the wet weather performance starts to drop off...
This tire performs quite well in all summer conditions. When brand new, they are fantastic in wet conditions and a very quiet on the highway. But since they wear incredibly fast, the wet weather performance starts to drop off. My ratings are based on the overall experience, not just the brand new performance (which would be mostly 9s and 10s)
Part of the wear issue is due to my car's design. I can't rotate tires front to rear (245s on the front 275's on the rear) and BMW puts more camber in the geometry than some other brands. The net result is the inner edges of the tires wear quickly and in the case of these tires, the wear became cupping which made for a lot of noise at highway speeds. The rest of the tire wear was even across the width of the tire, but still faster than I hoped for. The tread life rating of 240 worked out to about 16,000 miles in my case.
A quick note on ride comfort: These tires are fantastic for a run-flat. But compared to other sport tires, I just can't give them more than a 7.
My performance comments go something like this: The rear grip was adequate for every situation I found myself in. Under-steer is the enemy of performance on most production cars, and it is huge in my car/tire combination. There is very little warning as you start to break free and then she just wants to go straight. Will a different tire correct the under-steer? Probably not. But I'm hoping a different tire will give a better feel as I reach the traction limit.
For my next set I'm considering Pilot Super Sport, ExtremeContact DW, and possibly the Pilot A/S Gen 3.

The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT DSST earns strong dry traction scores, mostly 7-10. Customers praise responsive handling and reliable grip, with a few lower ratings noting rare inconsistencies.

Smooth ride, very quiet and really hugs the road when leaning into turns. Very rigid sidewalls can make the occasional pothole a bit uncomfortable, but, overall, an excellent performance tire.

...Sidewall gives very stiff ride...
Tire does not wear well. Significant highway tire noise. Sidewall gives very stiff ride. Stiff sidewall ruptures in minor potholes. Tire sidewalk stiffness bends and ruins aluminum rim. Would not trust this tire on a long road trip. Would never buy again.

...When you hit any size pot hole with this tire it will rattle the entire car. The ride is very hard...
I have been driving this vehicle for about 14 months. I had Dunlap tires,SP SPORT MAXX GT DSST and within the past 6 months I have replaced three tires because of bubbles on the side walls. When you hit any size pot hole with this tire it will rattle the entire car. The ride is very hard. I was afraid to get out on any highway at any speed above 70mph. After the third ruined tire I decide to replace all four with non run flat tires. I'll live with having to call a roll back if I have a flat but the difference in the ride with the replacement Michelin Pilot Sport AS is unbelievable. (PS I have a SP SPORT MAXX GT DSST with 75 miles on it, sitting in my garage if anyone is interested in buying it cheap!

Treadwear ratings show significant dissatisfaction, with many customers scoring 0-5 citing rapid wear and needing early replacement. While some give 7-10, frequent mentions of premature wear and disappointment in tread life dominate feedback.

The tire wears too fast. I will not purchase again.
The tire wears too fast. I will not purchase again. They drive okay in dry conditions city and highway, but tread not good in wet weather or near the first fall of snow.
Also: Have a friend in our BMW club that switched to non run flats and changed the brand with the same vehicle, and their gas consumption changed about 3% savings. That is a plus for me. I am ready for a smoother ride and less noise.
