Falken ZIEX ZE001 A/S Reviews

Feedback patterns show the Falken ZIEX ZE001 A/S delivers strong comfort with many ratings in the 7-9 range for ride smoothness, though some note inconsistency. Dry traction receives consistent praise (8-10 scores) for confident handling. Treadwear raises concerns, with multiple reports of premature wear (scores 0-5 dominating). Winter performance falls short for an all-season tire, particularly on ice (frequent 0-3 ratings). Wet traction shows mixed results-decent grip in light rain but hydroplaning risks in heavy downpours (4-8 scores). While excelling in comfort and dry conditions, buyers prioritizing longevity or winter capability may find limitations.

...at street legal speeds these tires seem fine for grip in wet or dry conditions...

I can’t talk about wear because I only have about 4000 miles on them. I will switch to snow tires soon because all season tires can’t compare to dedicated snow tires. I’ve actually raced both cars and motorcycles but all I can say is that at street legal speeds these tires seem fine for grip in wet or dry conditions. I’m a quick driver, but I don’t push things on public streets.

So why am I writing this review? One of my primary reasons for buying this tire was because it had such a high rating on road noise. They are really, really quiet. The original stock tires were annoying loud, the Bridgestones for my second set were worse. These are terrific, great ride quality, not mushy, but not harsh and they are really quiet

...They were fine in dry driving condition but nothing special...

These were OEM tires on my Mazda6 and so glad I finally got rid of them. Tires have weak sidewall. Had to replace one within 5k due to sidewall tear. The dealer replaced them on road hazard warranty. Tires don't handle bumps well. Feel everything and car barely has 13k miles. When first got car new car felt great driving it. But once I hit 9-10k, car felt sluggish. Acceleration felt delayed. Also, tire tech said tires were wearing unevenly even thou I rotated them few times. Ended up swapping tires to Michelin Pilot sport and man, they feel so much better. Time will tell how those feel after a while.
Last year winter months it was fine in the light snow we get in jersey. But idk how it would handle in deeper snow. They were fine in dry driving condition but nothing special. Like mentioned before, it felt it lost some traction. During wet condition, I didn't feel comfortable pushing them.

...Very quiet and comfortable ride...

27k miles on my Mazda6 and still going strong, 6/32" tread left. Rotated them twice before, every 10k miles or so. Very quiet and comfortable ride. Used them all year around in Southeastern Ontario, no issues if properly adapting the car's speed to the road conditions. Didn't drive them much in deep snow so I can't comment on that but good on dry, wet, slush and light snow. Very decent OEM tires from Mazda.

...They?re still quiet and responsive on dry pavement...

I pay attention to rotation and balance and overall air pressure. This has been a really great tire for me. Only now am I experiencing some hydroplaning on the road and Im maybe 2k from hitting the wear bars. Theyre still quiet and responsive on dry pavement and wont be tested on snow for sure. I like to drive spirited but have to dial it back if the puppy is in the back. Responsive car and road feel when I do get the chance.

Absolutely terrible tires - terrible ratings, got stuck in 6 inches of snow. A little wear and they hydroplane - never mind driving in the rain where heavy trucks have been leaving channels of water.

WHY would Subarus use these as OEM Tires on a vehicle that is AWD and driven in a sorts of climates - For any state - Virginia North should not have these tires.

2 Words - Don't Buy ! Michelin Cross Climate 2 are many levels better in every way.

...Absolutely horrible in wet and any form of snow. Almost didn't stop approaching an intersection after maybe 3 inches of snow at 10mph...

Why Subaru puts these on any of their vehicles is beyond me. So much so that I have written to them telling them how they are doing their consumers wrong. Absolutely horrible in wet and any form of snow. Almost didn't stop approaching an intersection after maybe 3 inches of snow at 10mph. That same day turning into a parking lot a just missed hitting the curb because these tires have zero grip. All systems work overtime in my car in any sort of inclement weather. The kicker... They are over $200 per tire. Can't judge wear as I've already had to replace 2 of them due to road hazards. If you live where you get decent snowfall and own a Subaru go with an all weather tire such as Nokian or Vredstein. Both great tires. Stay away from these Falkens.

...Terrible tread life and wet traction...

Came as original equipment on my 2022 Forester. Terrible tread life and wet traction. Okay in the dry but nothing exceptional. With 13k on these I have the same amount of tread left as my wife's 2018 crosstrek with the OE Yokohama tires with 60k on them.

...These Falkens while acceptable in dry/wet, become rocks in light snow and once temps drop. The sipes aren't deep at all and the vehicle (albeit a mid-size SUV) struggle mightily for any grip when cornering in any snow. Recently bought this Ascent off -lease and the previous owners put these same tires from factory on. These Falkens while acceptable in dry/wet, become rocks in light snow and once temps drop. The sipes aren't deep at all and the vehicle (albeit a mid-size SUV) struggle mightily for any grip when cornering in any snow. Turning is very unstable and if the speed isn't right you begin to understeer as the tire easily becomes packed with snow and it struggles to correct itself. There's so many better options. If you live in a state with snow, don't bother with this tire.

...These fail in snow/ice... Today I ended up in a ditch on a snowy mountain road. Going the same speed as the people in front of me. Don't use these in snow/ice.

OK for commuting, but I don’t understand why you would put this tire on an AWD car…when you need AWD (like in snow and ice), you probably need traction. These fail in snow/ice. I’m experienced in adverse driving. I instruct at safe driving workshops. I drive race cars on track. Today I ended up in a ditch on a snowy mountain road. Going the same speed as the people in front of me. Don’t use these in snow/ice.

Had stock on my 2019 Subaru Ascent. Hopefully this review may help someone else.

Tires completely wore out under 40k miles. If thats good or not, I am not sure, but seemed kind of fast to me.

Most disappointing was light snow lack of performance. I was very excited to drive my big bad all wheel drive subaru in the snow. First snowfall with about an inch on the ground, i was sliding all over the place with these tires when they were new.

Replaced with Pirelli tires and noticed a substantial improvement in handling and traction.

Personally, i would not recommend Falken tires based on my experience.

Terrible tread wear. The tires were always properly inflated and after only 20k miles they are already worn out. The comfort of these things is equivalent to riding on blown out tires. Every bump is felt. These came stock on the brand new vehicle. Handling in any precipitation is also very mediocre. These are advertised to last up to 60k and were probably in need of replacement at 15k. Terrible product.
