Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season light truck tires are for drivers who want a combination of sophisticated low-profile tires/large rim diameter wheels to enhance their vehicle's appearance with all-season versatility, including traction in light snow. Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season tires branded with the M+S symbol are sometimes used as Original Equipment (O.E.) on 2WD and 4WD light- and medium-duty crossover and sport utility vehicles.
O.E. Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season light truck tires are typically purchased as direct replacements for worn-out pairs/sets of the vehicle's original tires. They can also be used for other vehicle applications in complete sets of four or axle pairs if available in an appropriate size, load range and speed rating to match the existing O.E. tires' performance category and specifications.
Drivers find the Toyo A36 delivers a comfortable ride with generally quiet operation, earning consistent praise in this category. Treadwear receives mixed feedback, with some reporting premature wear despite the tire’s all-season design. Winter traction shows limitations in severe conditions, particularly on ice, though lighter snow performance satisfies some users. Wet traction splits opinions-many note adequate grip, but hydroplaning concerns surface in heavy rain. Dry traction stands out as a strength, with strong scores for confident handling and responsive steering. While suitable for everyday crossover/SUV use, its all-season capabilities show gaps in extreme wet or icy scenarios, aligning with mid-tier expectations for touring tires.

...They are impressive in taking corners and tight sweeping turns. Quite enjoyable!...
I worried a little when I saw Toyos on my new cx5 because I considered them an off brand and I have had little luck with those. Usually such tires are good for a few thousand miles, lose balance, wear out and then need to be replaced with Michelins. I am pleasantly surprised that these Toyos are performing extremely well and show little wear. I think I will be able to get 40k out of them and would definitely buy them again. They are impressive in taking corners and tight sweeping turns. Quite enjoyable!

...When trying to get them loose in the rain these tires wouldn't give out...
First good rain in over a month and these tires stuck to the road. Even when trying to get them loose in the rain these tires wouldn't give out. They are also pleasant to drive on the interstate even through the dreaded Tacoma construction.

Most customers rate Toyo A36 comfort highly, with many 9s/10s for smooth ride and low noise. Some 0-6 scores note concerns, but majority praise its excellent refinement in crossover/SUV touring.

...I like the firm ride, and the tire tread is holding up well...
When we purchased our 2019 CX5 my wife and I were originally disappointed to hear that they came with Toyo A36 tires because we were not too pleased with the A23 tires that came with our 2015 Mazda CX 5. Those were across the board mediocre at best and frequently lost air on all four tires. So given that experience I was not optimistic and was prepared to endure the A36 until they were ready to be replaced with something else. Anyway,22,000 miles plus later, I must say these tires are head and heels better than the old A23s in every way possible. I have not yet driven in deep snow yet but they did not disappoint in any other category thus far. I like the (not too) firm ride, and the tire tread is holding up well. For someone who loves to shop and by new tires frequently (from Tire Rack) I might actually buy these again, especially if the tread wear holds up and if they perform well in deep snow.

...They are noticeably quiet to my ears. Steering response is good and the ride is pretty good as well...
These were the OEM tires that came with our Mazda CX-5. We use Michelin X-Ice winter tires so I've only used these between May and December. These tires have actually performed quite well. They are noticeably quiet to my ears. Steering response is good and the ride is pretty good as well. These have been much nicer than I expected before having driven any Tokyo tires.

Mixed results with many ratings between 0-5. Customers report poor wet traction, slippery handling, and tendency to hydroplane, leaving some dissatisfied. Mediocre performance in wet conditions.

...But the tires' true colors become obvious in wet or snowy conditions. They are scary in the wet and terrifying in snow...
These were the original equipment tires on the CX-5. They seem to be engineered to provide a comfortable, quiet ride. Beyond doing that, they are the worst tires I have ever owned. The traction on dry roads is only fair--the front tires will often squeal under even minimal acceleration. But the tires' true colors become obvious in wet or snowy conditions. They are scary in the wet and terrifying in snow. I have dedicated winter tires, so these tires experience light snow only in the late fall or early spring. Even at that, they cannot handle any slick pavement. We endured them for 20,000 miles and then replaced them with a set of Michelin Cross Climate2s, even though there was plenty of tread left. The difference is night and day. I can't understand why Mazda equips a nice SUV with such dangerous, subpar tires.

...Dry traction is merely OK while wet traction is below average. Hydroplaning resistance is fair but honestly I'm afraid to push this tire hard enough to chance exceeding its limits...
This is my second set of A36. Both came as standard on Mazda CX-5s. Overall, this is at best a mediocre and overpriced tire. Dry traction is merely OK while wet traction is below average. Hydroplaning resistance is fair but honestly I'm afraid to push this tire hard enough to chance exceeding its limits. After about 50% wear (15k to 20k miles) they get noisy, hard and unbalanced. My first set got 30k miles, this set miraculously went 48k. I get regular alignments, rotations and am careful about tire pressure, especially in very hot or cold weather. Mazda could do so much better for the price. I get that they want a Japanese brand tire on a Japanese car, but they must buy these for $20 each to make the disastrous decision to put such a crummy tire on a nice car. I've been using General Altimax RT43 and now Altimax RT45 on cars for years and years with great results. Same price range as the Toyo A36 but a much better tire.

...I only had a handful of light rains in them, but it amazed me how easily they would slip and trigger traction control, even from dead stop. Final straw was going around a 35 mph S in a road. My car literally just slid sideways doing about 38 mph...
Will say I drove on these tires for just 3 months. I purchased a 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature and these were OEM. Car had 19,200 miles when I bought it. Tires were in excellent condition, and I did verify psi after I got the car home. That being said, the tires are horrible. They are very thumpy/slappy over bumps and ridges. They feel very squirrely in just day to day driving. They are twitchy and don't seem to plant on cloverleafs, fly-overs, etc. I only had a handful of light rains in them, but it amazed me how easily they would slip and trigger traction control, even from dead stop. Final straw was going around a 35 mph S in a road. My car literally just slid sideways doing about 38 mph. Slid.. Not oversteer or understeer. I literally just slid sideways a few inches. Within a week I had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 order. I've had them on for a week and so far they are night and day. The car feels so much more stable and sure-footed. Also quieter at all times.

While some customers rate snow traction between 7-10, many report scores as low as 0-4 for ice and deep snow, indicating poor winter performance with slippery conditions and lack of traction.

...Mediocre to poorsnow/ice performance despite the "M+S" designation...
Original OEM supplied tires. Horrible tread wear: Original tread depth: 10.2/32" (per mfg). Measured tread depth at 10,200 miles: 6/32". This is unacceptable. Mediocre to poor snow/ice performance despite the "M+S" designation. Due to Colorado law (tread depth requirement 3/16" on I-70), I now have to get new tires after only 10,000 miles of mostly highway miles! I would never buy these. I definitely don't recommend them.

...But actually the first couple times it snowed, we took her car out in it, and it was perfectly fine. Just to get a sense of the car's limits in the snow with the A36, I tried some semi-aggressive braking in my neighborhood away from any traffic. Yes, you can get the ABS to kick in, but overall for the (usually) mild snow we get here in the DC area, I was pleasantly surprised that the car was at least competent with the OE tires.
My wife got a 2018 Mazda CX-5 with these Toyo A36 tires on it. I was worried based on the reputation of the old CX-5 OE tire, the Toyo A23, that the A36 would be sub-par in the snow. While some customers rate treadwear highly with 9s and 10s, numerous reports of premature wear and dissatisfaction (scores 0-5) highlight concerns. Many noted rapid wear, needing early replacement, and mileage below expectations for an all-season tire.

...Tread wear after 28,800 is not a problem...
Tires came installed on 2018 Mazda CX-5. Tread wear after 28,800 is not a problem. Handling and performance is not a problem - but the noise level between 45 mph and 70 mph is truly annoying. Met every maintenance interval at dealer, tires are being rotated and checked for balance, but the high noise level continues.

I figured them to last at least 40k being on the grand touring edition, but these are barely making it to 25k before they wore right out, definitely would not recommend, they are the super low-end tires.
