Toyo A23 Reviews

User feedback reveals the Toyo A23 excels in dry traction (9-10 ratings) and wet performance, with strong hydroplaning resistance. Comfort receives praise for smooth handling, though some note road noise variability. Treadwear emerges as a concern, with inconsistent scores (0-10) suggesting durability may vary. Winter traction scores (0-8) show limitations in snow and ice despite its all-season designation. While dry and wet capabilities align well with touring expectations, mixed treadlife results and modest winter performance highlight trade-offs for crossover/SUV drivers prioritizing year-round versatility.

...Really good grip in dry twisty corners, good grip and minimal tendency to hydroplane in wet weather...

The OEM tires on my 2018 Mazda CX-5 were Toyo A23s. I went over 37K miles over two years of driving in typical Pacific Northwest weather; wet in the winter and dry in the summer. I drive a lot of twisty mountain roads in the warmer months. I also did some road trips: the CA Sierra Nevada, through central and eastern Oregon, back East to the Yellowstone area. The tires were fine in all the conditions I encountered. Really good grip in dry twisty corners, good grip and minimal tendency to hydroplane in wet weather. I only encountered 1 small snowfall (about 2 inches) while I was running these tires. They handled that snow great. The tires still had about 5/32's tread left after the 37K miles. After switching to Michelin Premier LTX tires, I realize the Toyo's were relatively noisy.

...I feel very confident in these tires in the wettest of conditions...

Put 46k on these so far. They were factory OEM. I'll probably replace them at 50 or 55k. Really impressed with their longevity and performance as they wear. I feel very confident in these tires in the wettest of conditions. Not a ton of snow experience as we are in VA.

...Overall, I was generally impressed with the tires - they gripped well for me in dry and wet scenarios... even though they were down to 4/32nds were still resisting the urge to hydroplane much better than other tires I've had experience with...

If tread wear and price are removed from the equation - I likely would have bought another set of these. However - having less than 4/32nds left at just shy of 30k miles is an incredibly short lifespan for the price of these tires. Overall, I was generally impressed with the tires - they gripped well for me in dry and wet scenarios, did reasonably well in snow (for an all-season tire on a Front-Wheel Drive vehicle) and even though they were down to 4/32nds were still resisting the urge to hydroplane much better than other tires I've had experience with.

But when you add in the price and tread life - I just couldn't justify another set. With winter approaching, I had a set of Premier LTXs put on - hopefully they prove to offer similar performance with some longer tread wear!

...It handles well on dry pavement and gives fairly good feedback...

This tire is the OEM tire on my Mazda CX5 GT. Overall the tire isn't all that bad. It handles well on dry pavement and gives fairly good feedback. For an OEM tire it has been a pleasant surprise but I live in the Northwest where it rains hard majority of the year and these tires hydroplane a lot. I found that if you keep them at the max pressure that Mazda recommended the tire will hydroplane less but is still beyond my level of comfort for how much it hydroplanes. These are loud tires, road noise and lane changes are loud. Next to my old Rav4 with run flat tires, these are the loudest tires I have ever owned. Winter performance isn't all that great but again, better than expected for an OEM tire. I felt some slippage in light snow and as expected, more slippage in packed snow. Treadwear has been on par with the rating of the tire, but the rating is so low.

This is an expensive tire and for the price and low treadwear rating, I am going to check out my other options when I am in need of new tires.

Pros:
Good Dry Traction/Handling
Predictable Cornering
Tight feel allows you to whip the car around road hazards

Cons:
Hydroplaning
Noisy!
Tires will not last long

...Tires were comfortable (soft), but car leaned too much when cornering...

These tires were factory tires on my Mazda CX-5. In three years, never drove in heavy snow. Tires were comfortable (soft), but car leaned too much when cornering. Not sure if this was due to the tires or suspension. Traction seemed fine. Never had to stop fast, so do not know about the braking. I am disappointed in treadwear. Only got 28K.

...They're relatively comfortable and are a great set of tires, considering they're OEM.

These tires came with my Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring. They've lasted an amazing 68,000 miles and still have 3/32" left, so they're probably last a little past 70,000. They've done so much better than I expected in terms of mileage, but I only drive warm weather highway conditions. They're relatively comfortable and are a great set of tires, considering they're OEM.

Leasing a Mazda CX-5 awd grand touring for 3 years. After 2.5 years and 23000 miles these tires are completely warn out. The first time it snowed this season I slid off the road making a turn at low speed. There was less than an inch of snow on the road. These tires had absolutely no traction in the light snow. The complete lack of traction in the snow was a surprise because they do ok in wet conditions.

These tires have a very disappointing tread life. I was not expecting to replace tires on a low mileage lease.

One of the tires constantly leaked air sice we got the cx5. Two tire shops and the dealer could not find a problem with the weel or tire but it would have low preasure every other month. The other 3 wheels did not have this problem even after tire rotation.

Terrible tires for anything other than dry pavement. Midwest winters are craptastic and so were these tires on ice and snow. Poor traction and control. The wear was also garbage. I'll have to replace these in a few months for winter or die in a fiery crash. Do not get these if you drive in any wintery conditions. Were they quiet? Sure. Smooth? Yup. Should have gotten rid of them when I bought the car.

...I live in Massachusetts and the tires are terrible in wet conditions and snow...

These were the factory tires on the 2016 Mazda CX-5 GT. I live in Massachusetts and the tires are terrible in wet conditions and snow. The tires ride decent in dry conditions on the highway but are much nosier than the Goodyears I replaced them with. The Toyos are obviously cheap tires. I've generally gotten 55K out of most tires in the past. At 29,500 these Toyos were worn down and needed to be replaced. Mazda cheaped out on selecting these tires.

...I'm currently at 29,500 miles on these Toyo tires and they are already COMPLETELY BALD. Toyo shouldn't even be in business producing garbage like this...

Toyo tires came standard on my 2016 Mazda CX-5 FWD Grand Touring Model. For a $30,000+ brand new vehicle, Mazda should have MUCH better standards for a starter tire set. I've never purchased a vehicle with such a terrible set of tires in my life. I'm currently at 29,500 miles on these Toyo tires and they are already COMPLETELY BALD. Toyo shouldn't even be in business producing garbage like this. Please see my comments below:

- Save your money and spend it elsewhere! - For the price getting a 300 treadwear rated tire is a complete scam. Temperature/traction ratings of A doesn't really matter when you have a measly 300 treadwear rating. You can find MUCH better prices for a 225/55R19 tire online that are MUCH higher rated than these!

- Tires have been EXTREMELY noise since Day 1 of owning my vehicle. Driving has always been loud but now that they are bald of course they are even louder. Not a quiet ride by any means.

- Traction in rain/snow is terrible. Even with full tread tires could not grip the road well when raining heavy. Snow is definitely a no-go. Recommend Sport Mode in heavy rain or snow if using a CX-5 with that function.

- Miles driven includes mostly highway with some city driving. Very light loads as i've hardly been carrying any weight in the vehicle other than 2 people in general plus the little ones when traveling. These tires have not been under heavy loads at all. Rotated around 8,000 miles according to manufacturer's specifications.

Please find another set of tires to purchase, i've looked at other poor reviews online and they are pretty much exact same situation i'm in! Don't find yourself in the same situation! Mazda should be embarrassed for even offering these on their CX-5 models and hoping they have since changed to something different than Toyo. SHOP AROUND!! Other sites/stores are offering better brands/warranty for tires for less than these are! I've never had to get new tires before reaching 30,000 miles.

The Toyo A23 is the original tires on my Mazda CX 5. I am so disappointed in their tread life the car has 21,000 miles and two of them are down to 2/32 of an inch and the other two are at 6/32. The tires were rotated at 8000 and 14000 miles, now they are unsafe to drive on.
I checked with Toyo and they do not offer any tire tread wear warranty this OEM tire. I strongly recommend never buying a Toyo tire. Keep searching for a better company to do business with.

These tires came factory on this CX-5. We bought the vehicle in the Quad Cities, and moved to AZ. 2 years ago. These tires had terrible tread wear. Just over 24,000 miles, and the tread is down past the wear bars already. Totally unacceptable for no more miles than are on them. We will go with a more durable tread tire next time. Noise and ride comfort are not as important as having a tire that lasts more than a $ 75 bargain brand.
