Evolving from the Proxes R888, the Proxes R888R is Toyo's Racetrack & Autocross Only tire for driving enthusiasts participating in track days, road racing and high-performance driver education events. Like all Racetrack & Autocross Only tires, Proxes R888R radials are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. It's also essential these tires be stored indoors at temperatures maintained above 15 degrees F.

Proxes R888R tires feature an R-compound tread that quickly reaches operating temperature and provides high grip levels for maximum cornering traction. The tread compound is molded into an aggressive, asymmetric tread pattern with massive outboard shoulder blocks to provide the lateral grip needed when driving on the track. Continual development of the contact patch gives the Proxes R888R greater levels of dry traction for improved braking, acceleration and cornering versus its predecessor.

While Proxes R888R radials meet D.O.T. requirements, they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions when shaved or worn where standing water is present and there is a risk of hydroplaning. Drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions.

Internal construction of the R888R features a two- or three-ply (depending on size) Rayon casing supporting two wide, high-tensile steel belts. A spirally-wound nylon reinforcement ply provides additional high-speed stability and durability.

Toyo Tires recommends the following general set-up guidelines for the Proxes R888R:

  • Operating Temperature: 160°-220° F
  • Hot Inflation Pressures: 32 to 38 PSI
  • Camber: -1° to -3°
  • Caster: As much positive as possible

Customers Say

Customers think the Toyo Proxes R888R delivers outstanding dry traction with exceptional grip and predictable handling, making it a top choice for track days and autocross. However, wet performance raises significant concerns, with many reporting dangerous hydroplaning and limited control in rain. Treadwear receives praise for a 100TW tire, offering decent longevity through multiple heat cycles when used primarily on track, though rapid wear is noted with aggressive driving or street use. Ideal for focused dry-weather performance but requires caution in wet conditions and mindful pressure management for optimal durability.

  • 255 positive
  • 10 negative

Customers praise the R888R's dry traction, with many scoring 9-10 for "excellent" grip and predictable cornering on track days, autocross, and HPDE events. Some note heat sensitivity during extended sessions but still commend its sticky performance. A few report faster lap times and confidence in high-power acceleration despite expected treadwear tradeoffs.

...Car makes 450whp and it hooks up perfectly with these Toyos... Floor it in 2nd and she simply rockets forward. 7k rpm 2-3 shifts, no problem...

Simply amazing. Car makes 450whp and it hooks up perfectly with these Toyos. Came from Nitto NT555G2s, which were like driving on ice, and by comparison, these Proxes are night and day. Floor it in 2nd and she simply rockets forward. 7k rpm 2-3 shifts, no problem. Nittos almost killed me, these Toyos simply stick and perfectly match the car’s power output.

I have run Nitto drag radials and also the R888's. These tires are much better than both! I have 785 rwhp and these tires just dead hook! I even went from a 305 drag radial to the 285 and the traction is amazing on the street. I will be buying another set of these!

...The grip is much better with these tyres... The cornering speed is increased, the rear traction is better, maybe there is less of warning when they will start to slide on good pavement, but not big deal, you can learn it...

Well, I have tried many semi slick tyres in the past including pilot sport cup, r888 and recently replaced kumho V70A hard compount, which I can directly relate these to.
The wear rate might be higher on these ones, although I can't tell at this time, but ouaou! ...what a big step up in Performance!
The grip is much better with these tyres, although I put slightly smaller section in the rear of the Car and I know have 235 40 17 square instead of 215 45 fr and 245 40 rear! The cornering speed is increased, the rear traction is better, maybe there is less of warning when they will start to slide on good pavement, but not big deal, you can learn it. They warm up fast and the huge difference in relation to the kumho is on more slippery than Ideal surfaces - the traction there is amazing, the kumho's would let go without warning but these slide progressively and you have plenty of time to catch the slide! I will never go back to kumho's with this tyre and the only tyres that I might try in the future is federal fz201 or hoosiers! The cold pressure that I use is around 26psi! Last, but not least, the comfort in relation to kumho's is excellent, they absorb rough surfaces like nothing else I have tried before, I have run over a little stone and I didn't even realized it although I run kw variant 3 coilovers!

...With 100 tread wear, they do wear out quickly, but thats the price you pay for sticky track tires...

I drive a track prepped E46 330ci, this is the first time I bought a set of Toyo Proxy’s. I have only driven on dry tracks, so I cant comment on how they do on a wet track. I love these tires. The feedback I get is positive. With 100 tread wear, they do wear out quickly, but thats the price you pay for sticky track tires. I would definitely buy them again, which will be soon. Lol.

...Tire is very predictable and stable, wear seems even so far after 2 track days.

I purchased these so I could shake down a 944 spec car at a few DE events. Toyo recommends -1 to -3 degrees camber, and hot pressures in the range of 32-38 psi. My car is 2612 pounds, I run -3.5 degrees front -2.6 rear, start at 31.5 psi cold which brings the pressures up to 37-38 hot. Tire is very predictable and stable, wear seems even so far after 2 track days.

Tires do amazing when dry and hot very sticky very responsive, excellent traction. Decent in wet conditions, bad tendency to hydroplane. Really only drawback is excessive road noise at all speeds.

I would not recommend them for use in wet conditions.

I use these tires for HPDE/Track days. They are very capable tires in dry conditions and provide superior grip to road tires, yet are more durable and last longer than slicks. If you are looking for a compromise between street tires and slicks these are for you. I would not recommend them for use in wet conditions.
