Vredestein Sprint Classic 

My previous tires had very poor traction, especially in wet weather. And thay would often break traction in low gear on steep hills. These tires grip firmly and are a huge increase in safety and good handling. A+ in every respect. I am delighted with them.

My ‘73 Saab 96 (not listed but it is the mechanical basis for the 97 Sonett) handles, steers and rides best on these tires. Great traction wet or dry, comfortable ride, accurate steering inputs and good road feel. They also keep the rear end from breaking loose in hard cornering compared to some other tires I’ve tried, and I appreciate that. They are progressive and forgiving.

I was waiting for rain in California before an evaluation. I have owned my Porsche Carrera since August 1997 and have driven over 75,000 miles to date. The VREDESTEIN Sprint Classic tires is the first time that I have ever had the correct OEM factory size tires on my 15" rims. 185/70/15 Front and 215/60/15 Rear (Owners Manual). These are the first "Summer" tires that have been on the car and have impressed me for how they handle in dry or wet conditions. Wet driving feel brings a high level of confidence as driving conditions change and you get a better feel for how well tires perform. These tires have exceeded my expectations and "prove" the point that the performance of a vehicle "starts" with the tires.

Very pleased with my purchase and the performance of the Vredestein Sprint Classics. They are the only true performance tires, with a W rating, available any more for my 66 Corvette. Virtually everything else I looked at that would fit my 15" wheels and standard body are crappy minivan/SUV tires. The fit of the 215/70 R15 is excellent with no rubbing on the fiberglass and only under the most extreme steering when parking does it rub the frame. I'm not racing the car but I do like to throw it into a turn from time to time and these tires just stick to the road. The only drawback I find is that they are not as "black" even with ArmorAll, as I would like. But that's a small sacrifice compared to the confidence and security I feel running these tires. May they make them for a long time more!

Out of a concern about chassis rusting, the car is not driven in the rain, unless I'm caught in a shower by surprise, so I didn't rate wet traction / hydroplane. The tires at 175 are narrow by today's standards so they'd be less prone to hydroplane situations than a 'wide' tire. The few experiences with these tires in the wet have been uneventful.
The car they are on has 60 year old suspension design, no electronic nanny stability control nor ABS, and so the Sprint Classics are not as adept at cornering and steering response as some 205 and wider tire such as would be found on a modern car with more sophisticated suspension and 'pilot-error' mitigation systems.
The rare occasion I've been in track-day or auto-cross situations the tires have shown their expected limitations progressively and gradually while giving ample notice of approaching their limits. Here's where I mention that driving a slow car quickly beats driving a fast car slowly.
I'm somewhere around 13,000 miles on three of these (one was replaced due to bead damage by a non-endorsed installer) and the wear rate I'm seeing from my use is not bad at all considering the tire's comparatively low tread wear rating.
My one issue with the Sprint Classic, and this comes up every mid-autumn with sub-freezing overnights here in New England, is the tires' 'summer' compound and the cold temperature potential of crack development. It's mid-November as I compose this update. These crisp, clear (post foliage leaf-peeper tourist traffic) mornings with dry roads and brilliant sunshine, when I'd love to take the car out, have to be ignored and make me ponder getting tires with a more cold tolerant compound to extend my driving season a few added weeks until it's snow (and the chassis devouring ice melt compounds spread on the roads) not the mere cold thermometer reading, that finally calls a halt to the fun.

These replaced some 15 year old Continentals, so naturally they are a great improvement. Any older Morgan doesn't encourage spirited driving like a modern sports car, but I do push it more than most of my peers. The Vredesteins exhibit far better grip and comfort than the previous tires, but, again, I expect new rubber to do that. The 220 tread wear rating is low, but they are not really a "performance" tire like autocross/track oriented tires of similar rating. On such a light car I'd expect them to "age out" long before they wear out. I plan on putting many more miles on them when the weather improves (they are a "summer" tire) and expect that my impression of them will remain positive.
