The ADVAN A052 is Yokohama's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for drivers who use their street-driven vehicles to participate in high-performance driving schools, autocross, and open track events and want Yokohama's highest level of DOT-approved performance. Like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, the ADVAN A052 is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The ADVAN A052 molds Yokohama's motorsports MS Compound into a track-ready, asymmetric tread design for extreme levels of grip. The low-void tread pattern features wide center ribs and an expansive outboard shoulder for maximum traction, and the rounded tread profile helps to evenly distribute pressure across the footprint, creating more contact with the road. Notches in the outboard micro groove improve cooling for added durability and consistency when used on the track. Two wide, circumferential grooves and the notched inboard shoulder help evacuate water from the tread pattern to enhance hydroplaning resistance.
A casing consisting of two plies of nylon cord supports two wide, steel belts beneath the tread and helps contribute to precise and responsive handling. Two spirally-wound, nylon reinforcement plies improve high-speed durability and further promote the steering response expected from a track-capable tire.
Important Care and Usage Instructions: Important Care and Usage Instructions: The ADVAN A052 was developed using high-performance compounds which become brittle at low temperatures, and therefore should not be used in certain conditions. ADVAN A052 tires thus must be stored or used only at temperatures at or above 14°F (-10°C) to maintain performance characteristics and to avoid any damage to the tire or injury to persons or property.

Extreme Performance Summer - 2024 Test 5 Part 2 (16:42)
EP tires wear two distinct hats. They’re great on sporty and high horsepower vehicles conquering the everyday road and on those same vehicles as they dominate in various races and track days. The nuances here are many as increased traction and performance in one of these arenas can mean a tradeoff elsewhere. This two-part test lays it all bare and reveals just how close, but different, this category can be!
Performance reviews suggest the Yokohama ADVAN A052 excels in dry traction, offering exceptional grip, precise cornering, and confidence-inspiring performance for autocross, track days, and HPDE events. Wet traction is praised in damp conditions, though hydroplaning risks rise in standing water. Treadwear draws mixed feedback-drivers report rapid wear under aggressive use, with cords often visible after limited track sessions or competitive autocross runs. While some note durability through multiple heat cycles, most emphasize its prioritization of peak grip over longevity. Ideal for competitive drivers seeking maximum dry performance, but expect frequent replacement in high-intensity scenarios.

These have helped me be Top PAX on several wet event weekends so far, you can just do stupid things with these tires.
These are an Autocross tire, nothing else. On a FWD car without camber, they wear very quickly, so I only use them if the temperatures are colder (below 50) and/or wet. These have helped me be Top PAX on several wet event weekends so far, you can just do stupid things with these tires.

Customers praise the Yokohama ADVAN A052's exceptional dry traction, with many scoring 9s and 10s. Reviewers highlight "insane grip," predictable cornering, and quick warm-up, ideal for autocross and track use. Some note rapid treadwear and heat sensitivity, but view these as expected trade-offs for top-tier performance in extreme conditions.

...But in dry stick like glue, ride well, great steering response.
Few reviews so far, but here is mine. Replaced Nitto NT 01s which were great, but one had puncture and resultant structural failure five years out so replaced all four. Car is a highly modified Miata, not tracked but driven in a vigorous fashion thru So Cal canyons.
Nittos were great. With asterisk. Very noisy. Harsh over lousy LA streets. Never drove in standing water but suspect like being on skis. Just fine in a little wet. Nonetheless loved them. Also have Nittos on 1978 Porsche 930 but due for replacement soon.
Early on comparison (just installed today): Yokos much quieter than Nittos. Barely noticeable noise, although the sound of a happy mechanism in the Miata is pretty loud. I cannot appreciate a problem with steering response as described by Tire Rack. Steering tight and instantaneous, just like Nittos. Yokos less harsh over horrible LA streets in Miata running Xidas with high spring rates but adjustable active shocks.
Previous experience in this car over the years with Dunlop 8000s, Bridgestone SO3s, Bridgestone RE-11s, and Nittos. Early on. the Yokos are the best compromise. Dunlops relatively low limits. SO3s terrific. RE-11s quite harsh, heavy. Nittos great but noisy, do not do bumps well. But in dry stick like glue, ride well, great steering response.
Over the years have loved Yokos, from 008 Drys on 930 to current V105s on Porsche Cayman S and Boxster S, which were an incredible bargain. Cannot speak to trackability, but for aggressive street driving I think the 052s will be hard to beat.

I love the "200 TW" tire wars! I used to cart Hoosiers to every track day but gave that up in favor of the convenience of "arrive and drive", With these latest generation of tires the penalty is just not that bad, Love it! These are definitively faster than the RE71R I had before, FWIW, at Buttonwillow I was able to match the best time I had set on Hankook Z214. Keep it coming tire companies!

Customers praise the A052's track and autocross grip, with many scoring 8-10, but note accelerated treadwear requiring frequent replacement. While some accept shorter lifespan for performance, others rate 6-7, citing rapid wear during heat cycles and track days. Mixed reviews on durability, with positive marks for grip but concerns on longevity in high-performance use.

...They wear similar to an NT01... The car is set up with 3.5 degree camber so the tires are wearing out evenly but faster than the 200 tw rating...
Great tire for the track. Tires need to be heat cycled. The tires were terrible the first few track sessions, the first day. After that, they were great. They wear similar to an NT01. The car is set up with 3.5 degree camber so the tires are wearing out evenly but fasterthan the 200 tw rating. Basixally a 200tw cheater tire. I may try the Nankang next time. Similar trait as the A052 but a bit cheaper.

...After 56 mostly hot laps, the left-side tires are gone. The left front is well past the wear bars on the outer half of the tread and the left rear is at the wear bars on the outer half (Grattan is a clockwise track with only three left-hand slower-speed corners). The right-side tires are in decent shape...
Bought these tires to run DEs. They replaced the used Hankook R-S3 tires that came with the used OZ wheels I bought for track use. I ran the Hankooks for one evening test & tune at Gingerman and one two-day DE at Grattan. The Hankooks were somewhat greasy but did decently. I wanted tires that would stick. I was told that these tires would blow me away. I chose to have Tire Rack heat cycle them to make sure they would stay consistent for me. I just completed another two day DE at Grattan. While the A052s didn't blow me away, they were easily more consistent in the corners when compared to the Hankooks. After getting the pressures dialed in when hot, I was able to run consistently in the 1:28s and 1:29s, which is darn good for a stock (3100 lb) car on DOT tires. But the lap times came at a cost. After 56 mostly hot laps, the left-side tires are gone. The left front is well past the wear bars on the outer half of the tread and the left rear is at the wear bars on the outer half (Grattan is a clockwise track with only three left-hand slower-speed corners). The right-side tires are in decent shape. In my opinion, cars running these tires on the track need to have the camber settings adjusted accordingly--which is not something that is going to happen with most stock cars.

The fastest 200tw tire for a single fast lap. However it is also fast wearing and grip falls off a cliff when overheated.
I recently discovered the dangers of this tire once it is worn past 3/32nds and overheated on a hot lap. When the tire's grip failed me exiting turn 9 at Gingerman, my car suddenly went into an irrecoverable spin. I literally skid across the entire straight to turn 10 and the car didn't slow down at all until I ended up in the bushes. I've spun there in RE71Rs once before and the car would actually lose enough momentum before stopping in the grass. There's plenty of run off in this area.
This tire has lots of grip, fitted on a wide enough wheel it can be responsive and provide good driver confidence. However it can abruptly turn on the driver once overheated, which makes it borderline dangerous towards the end of it's tread life. (Especially in an oversteer happy mid-engine car)
It is fast but it wears fast and overheats fast, on top of this it is more expensive than most other 200tw and will need to be replaced more often. For these reasons I'll be trying out a different 200tw tire next time.
