The AVID Ascend LX is Yokohama's Standard Touring All-Season tire developed for drivers of sedans, coupes, crossovers and minivans who want a quiet ride and confident wet performance combined with dependable winter traction and long tread life. The AVID Ascend LX is designed to deliver grip in dry, wet and wintry conditions, even in light snow.

Yokohama BluEarth branding is used to identify an ecologically friendly series of tires that are designed to deliver environmentally, human and socially friendly solutions for drivers and their vehicles. AVID Ascend LX tires branded with the BluEarth symbol are identified on their Sizes and Specs pages.

The symmetric pattern of the AVID Ascend LX features an offset design and a five-block pitch sequence to help reduce pattern and road noise for a comfortable, quiet ride. The tread is molded from Yokohama's L-2 all-season compound that features a unique polymer blend designed to enhance wear resistance, and the wider, flatter tread contour helps to evenly distribute pressure within the footprint to combat uneven wear and improve tire longevity. The wide, circumferential and lateral grooves evacuate water from the contact patch to resist hydroplaning, and wavy 3D sipes in the shoulders plus notches in the intermediate ribs create biting edges for traction in light snow and on ice.

Internally, a polyester casing aids ride comfort and supports two wide, steel belts. A nylon reinforcement provides high-speed capability and enhances handling and durability.

...They handled wet, dry, and slushy conditions in a controlled, predictable way with no problems...

This is an early low mileage review based on comparing the Yokohama Avid Ascend LX to the OE Bridgestone Dueler. I can only rate my impression based on fairly recent memory of the vehicle when new, about 23 months and 30,000 miles ago, and now. I had the good fortune to have the tires mounted on a fairly warm day here in Minnesota, with a combination of dry and wet streets, and some ice and slush on residential streets. The next day we had blizzard conditions with light snow, drifted deep snow, and plowed areas with compacted snow. My main desire is a quiet comfortable ride and good all season traction. We travel all over, but live in snowy Minnesota. The tires were purchased at my local Subaru dealer in Moorhead MN, through Tire Rack. They have a 24 month road hazard program in cooperation with Tire Rack and all participating Subaru dealerships that even includes roadside assistance and service around the country. Added Bonus! The tires balanced easily, and the tech commented they are about as good as he's seen with required weight and balancing ease. The tires are quiet on the highway, typically with wind noise more pronounced than tire noise on most road surfaces. They transfer impact noise from cracks and road imperfection similarly to the Bridgestones when they were new, but improved over the worn tires. They handled wet, dry, and slushy conditions in a controlled, predictable way with no problems, and inspired confidence compared to the worn tires on compact snow and ice. They probably don't have the same grip as a dedicated snow tire, but pretty good, better than the Bridgestones in my memory. I can say the Yokohamas track down the highway well and switch lanes and corner well behaved. There was no issues with recovery oscillation when hitting road imperfection. In my opinion these tires beat the originals by a small margin in noise and comfort, about equal in wet and dry grip, and are an improvement on snow and ice. Hopefully they will last longer too!

Only have about 1000 miles on the tires, but so far they're great. Definitely an improvement on wet pavement over the Kuhmo on there before - that alone would make me buy these again. Road noise in minimal and ride quality seems fine.

...Wet and dry traction is very good...

I have bought many sets of Yokohama tires over the years and haven't been disappointed yet. They get good life out of them and are quiet and ride great. These are no exception. We haven't had a ton of snow this year, but the tires have handled what we did get with no problems. Wet and dry tractions is very good. Nothing really to complain about, these are just good tires.

...So far driven in torrential rain, slush an light snow on highway and they stuck to the road like glue...

Yokohama nailed it on this one. Have them only a short time but these tires are the best I ever put on a car. I use to buy only Michelins buy they became noisy as --------. So far driven in torrential rain, slush an light snow on highway and they stuck to the road like glue. Message to Yokohama: if you read this do not change, upgrade, modify or discontinue these tires. Just wish I can get for my new 2019 RAV4 limited. Very quiet, Highly recommend.

These tires are excellent in snow and ice. They're adequate all season tires for this area where we get 50-60 in of snow and 40 in of rain on average; putting on winter tires is not necessary with these tires. Initially gas mileage was down, but inflating them 2 psi higher than manufacturer's suggestion eliminated this problem without affecting performance. They bring out the full potentional of the AWD of our subaru legacy. The treadwear isn't even noticeable thus far. The ride is decent and much better since replacing the old set of yokohama avid ascends.

Got these to replace the factory tires that had become worn out. I wanted something with a high treadlife that was also quiet, comfortable, and capable of handling Indiana winters. This turned out to be perfect for that. We got a fairly brutal snow storm not too long ago, and these tires handled it like champs. I haven't felt this stable on snow in a long time. They're also extremely good on both wet and dry roads, don't make much road noise, and ride extremely smoothly. I used to have a bit of steering vibration on my old tires when getting to 60-70 MPH on the interstate, but that's completely gone with these.

...Have been well pleased with their performance... tread pattern so tight, great on dry pavement, not so good on snow...

Second set of Yokohama Avid Ascend tires. Have been well pleased with their performance except 6" snow. Can't expect much but tread pattern so tight, great on dry pavement, not so good on snow. Seems to channel water well though. Never have experienced hydroplaning or sense of lost traction in rain. Cars sport suspension corners very flat. Rather hard compound provides excellent tread life on well aligned and regularly rotated applications. About to buy 2 more.

...They are quiet, and give a very comfortable ride...

I purchased these tires to replace my OE set of Continentals. I drive a lot for work, so I needed a tire that was long lasting and fuel efficient. But also one that was quiet and comfortable to drive on. These were recommended to me by my old job, because the Acsend GT are discontinued. I have driven on these for roughly 10k miles, and they are awesome. No, they aren't the most responsive. But they are far better than other Grand Touring tires I have used. They are quiet, and give a very comfortable ride. Fuel consumption has not changed front the OE tires. I have no experience in the snow with these tires because I run a dedicated winter tire on my car. I am very happy with these tires. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great all season tire.

...Very comfortable ride on highway and dirt roads of varying speeds...

I found the tire I've been looking for with these. Treadwear is outstanding. Very comfortable ride on highway and dirt roads of varying speeds. Some light humming at 60 mph since new, no longer concerned about mechanical problem such as wheel bearings, these tires hum very lightly at 60-62mph only, and will not deter me from buying them again. Fuel economy excellent. Wet traction as good as could be expected. No cracking or dry rotting on tires I can find. Impressive.

I recently put on new tires at 74,500 miles, and went with the same Avid Ascend.

In this special demonstration, we took six all-season tires from three all-season categories and three summer tires from two summer categories to lay it out for you. Category-leading tires from the Standard Touring All-Season, Grand Touring All-Season, Ultra High Performance All-Season, Max Performance Summer, and Extreme Performance Summer categories are tested so you can see exactly what each "step up" gets you as a driver and what trade-offs were made along the way.
