I was a little hesitant to order ANY replacement wheels for the wagon. After all, the stock AMG wheels look pretty great. But I had a couple of slow leaks traced to degradation of the wheel itself so figured I'd update the look of my car with these wheels.
It was a great choice. They look super, they added about an inch to the track (which is imperceptible, but does move the wheels out in the wells a bit) and were a great choice.
And of course, the service from TireRack.com was great, as it always is.
Car tracks out a little wider than the stock AMG 18" wheels, maybe an inch overall, pushing the tires closer to the wheel well edges, which is a good look. Not so far as to cause any concerns about interference. Also, it is a wagon, so there doesn't appear to be any appreciable handling difference between these and the stock wheels with the narrower track. 1" isn't much.
They look great on the car.
I have now had these O.Z. Omnia wheels on three different mk7/7.5 GTI's. 2015 GTI S (DSG) 2015-2017, 2017 GTI Sport (Manual) 2017-2020 & 2019 GTI SE w/ DCC (DSG) 2020-Current... I got a fantastic deal on a left over, but back to the wheels. Originally equipped with Michelin PSS (235/40/18) from 2016-2019. Then upgraded to Michelin PS4S (235/40/18) from 2019-Current. Note: I interchange with my winter set for the cold months. Now for my review: The wheels look great on the GTI, the offset is a classy OEM+ look and the spokes allow for the red GTI brake calipers to pop! But the downfall of these wheels are the soft metal construction material. It bends on the outer face lip easily, and ruins the fresh look. An average pothole does not bend the OEM wheels, but demolishes these O.Z. Omnia wheels :'(. Its a shame because I love the look! But my next set will be Forged wheels for the occasional HPDE day on track. I would recommend the wheels for the looks, but unfortunately the material is too soft for rough road surfaces.
Great wheel, and elegant but sporty design that is easy to clean and wax, both the face back side of the wheel. Especially since they come with a pretty decent finish on the backside. I have had these now for almost three years and the outer finish has held up very well considering I live in New England but do avoid driving in the snow and salt cover roads as much as I can. Bottom line this is a very affordable wheel that is liter than stock OEM wheel and still very strong. I actually just bough one extra of these wheels last week as a spare tire, this when purchasing a set of Michelin AS3 tires.
I got it for performance and style. The benefit over stock wheels was significant. I'm very sensitive to heavy wheels, now having less weight on all four corners , steering feel on my 16 GTI felt a lot lighter, quicker, and much more nimble around turns. I haven't had a chance to track the car yet but it is always good to reduce rotational mass even for a daily. The car is that much more fun to drive now. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.
Very nice wheels, bought these in 17x7.5 with Pilot Super Sports. It saved 7 lbs. over 17" VW wheels and 8 lbs over the stock 18" wheels. Also saved about $460 over an 18" set with tires. They feel good on the car and look great.
