Tires are designed specifically for different vehicles and wheel sizes. Tell us about your vehicle or the specific size you want so we can help find the right tires for you.

The ADVAN A048 is Yokohama's Streetable Track & Competition racing tire developed for drivers who participate in autocross competition, high-performance driving schools, lapping days and circuit-type club racing, as well as are Original Equipment (O.E.) on the Lotus Elise and Exige. The ADVAN A048 is designed to take Yokohama's advanced racing technology to a new level in DOT-approved tire performance by delivering precise control, sure-footed braking and predictable grip.

ADVAN A048 radials meet DOT requirements, however they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions.

Important Care And Usage Instructions: The ADVAN A048 was developed using high performance compounds which become brittle at low temperatures, and therefore should not be used in certain conditions. ADVAN A048 tires thus must be stored or used only at temperatures at or above 14°F (-10°C) to maintain performance characteristics and to avoid any damage to the tire or injury to persons or property.

The ADVAN A048 molds race-ready tread compound(s) (offering Medium or Medium-Hard choices in many sizes) that can be used to match the tire's capabilities to vehicle weight and performance, as well as track conditions and ambient temperatures. It features a "single block" tread design that increases tread stiffness and features a wide center area that stays in continuous contact with the track to enhance cornering stability, on-center feel and steering response. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon cap plies and belt edge strips. The belt package is placed on top of a rounded casing design that allows the tire to predictably handle transitions from straight-line travel to high g-force cornering and back.

ADVAN A048 tires are molded with 6/32" of tread depth in their grooves and are left unshaved for use on damp tracks. We suggest shaving ADVAN A048 tires to approximately 4/32" of tread depth to begin competitive road racing/track use in dry conditions. The ADVAN A048's directional tread design and symmetric internal construction allows remounting partially worn tires inside-out on their wheels to help prolong their life.

Warning: ADVAN A048 radials meet DOT requirements, however they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions. This is especially true of shaved or worn tires. And like other Streetable Track & Competition tires, these tires are not intended to be stored, serviced nor driven in near- or below freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

Customers Say

Drivers find the Yokohama ADVAN A048 delivers outstanding dry traction with precise cornering and consistent lap times, making it a top choice for track days and autocross. Wet performance receives mixed feedback-some praise its predictable grip in light rain when new, but note hydroplaning risks as tread wears. Tread life is short even for an R-compound tire, with many reporting rapid wear after 5,000-7,000 miles or 6-8 track events, though enthusiasts accept this trade-off for peak performance. Heat cycling and alignment sensitivity are noted concerns, but the tire’s track-focused design earns strong praise from competitive drivers.

While some note rapid tread wear expected in competition use, grip remains confidence-inspiring during aggressive driving.

...Really solid feel to the ground. You can tell the limit of the tire pretty well and its in my way safer...

Surpising good traction on dry, not sure on wet since LA has no rain even since i got these tires. Really solid feel to the ground. You can tell the limit of the tire pretty well and its in my way safer. Using to drive daily and also some canyon attacks. Works amazing great, compare to the stock tire i have from continetal, this is much gripper. Wear is not reallt bad also, driving harsh for 2000+miles and still see to have 7/32 thread left. Will get another set if i wear out this one.

...Dry traction is as good as any 200+ tread wear tire out there... Very shallow tread depth, especially at edges, tires are clearly made for performance and increased my STI's limits considerably...

Replaced stock Advans off of an STI with these and they're night and day better. WAY better on reducing road noise and general comfort, wife (who hates performance parts of any kind) applauded the tires as very comfortable and quiet. Dry traction is as good as any 200+ tread wear tire out there. Very shallow tread depth, especially at edges, tires are clearly made for performance and increased my STI's limits considerably. Wet traction is an issue and these will definitely hydroplane, must be careful in rain although have never lost control. They communicate the limit very well and respond well to measured inputs. Would 10/10 buy again.

...driving extremely aggressively in the canyons I didn't even trip DSC or ABS at all. This is probably the tire with the highest grip you can use on a daily basis; I haven't found the limit of them yet...

My frame of reference: Current cars; 2004 330i ZHP (used for current review) came with Hankook V12 evo 2. Datsun 240z track/autocross car: Falken RT615k tires on 16" wheels. Previous car: 2000 323i with Continental DW tires, misc. all seasons prior.

Have done about 2000 miles of daily commute, LA canyons, and a Vegas trip.

So I have owned my ZHP for a little over a year now that has Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, trailing arm limiters, and a BMW performance strut bar. The car came with Hankook V12 evo 2 tires in stock staggered 18" sizes. The car has a decent amount of negative camber to the point of notably wearing tires so I wanted to try an asymmetric tire, rotating left-right to see if it helps with wear, but there is only so much you can do with staggered tires. The fact these tires are pretty aggressive may help with wear due to the negative camber.

Aggressive is certainly the word for these tires. With the completely stock engine these tires feel like much more than I need in any street scenario. Even when driving extremely aggressively in the canyons I didn't even trip DSC or ABS at all. This is probably the tire with the highest grip you can use on a daily basis; I haven't found the limit of them yet. I wasn't planning on doing autocross or track in this car but now that I have such capable tires I am reconsidering that. These tires are very attractively priced, so ride and comfort is probably the weak point of these tires. While they have passable overall ride, they are definitely firm and sensitive to road imperfections. Some people have noted noises, I haven't noticed anything serious for noise but maybe some weird tones at higher highway speeds. The Continental DW (and newer equivalent) or likely the Michelin "Pilot whatever's-too-expensive" ride better for their class.

Overall hesitant to get these tires again for daily driving. While the grip is outstanding for performance driving (Once again may hit the track now) I'm not sure if the ride compromise is worth it. The ZHP is definitely more sporting, but this tire may be a bit much for it. I would say I would recommend these tires only for people that have driven on 200TW tires and want a bit more of that aggression in their street tire. The Firehawks, Hankook V12s, and Continental DW/Contact sport are probably a better daily compromise (Or the Michelin pilots if you're rich or the Michelin man will come to your house and give you a sloppy). We'll see how they wear or if these tires grow on me as the miles pile up. The price makes them a winner despite the ride. They have a 12,500 mile staggered warranty so if they hit at least 15k that would be satisfactory.

I was genuinely shocked with how well they perform in the rain though. In situations where the factory all seasons that came on the car would struggle to maintain control, the advans handled it with no problem...

I first purchased these tires back in october 2021 because they were recommended to me multiple times on an enthusiast facebook page. These tires have been put through just about everything over the last two years; two trips from florida to north carolina/tennessee, tons of spirited driving in the mountains as well as the lovely flat florida land (lol), lots of highway miles, and normal day to day usage in the city. These tires have met and exceeded my expectations in everything I have used them for. With spirited driving, it takes quite a bit to get them to reach their limit and they will let you know when they do. With daily driving (commute, traveling, etc.) they aren't the quietest tires out there but its really not bad at all, granted my car is heavily modified so I do not think it would make a difference. I was genuinely shocked with how well they perform in the rain though. In situations where the factory all seasons that came on the car would struggle to maintain control, the advans handled it with no problem. Here I am about 2 years later writing this review as I am on my way to purchase them again before my trip back to north carolina to enjoy the mountain roads again. For a 280TW tire, they have lasted long enough and as of writing of this review they still have 3/32 tread left, which is about my limit as its starting to get sketchy when it rains but dry performance is definitely still there.

Long story short, if you are thinking about getting these tires, give them a shot. I highly doubt you will be disappointed.

...Did ok in the rain as far as hydroplaning, wet traction after rain stops was pretty good and was still grippy...

I drive spiritedly in city 85% and highway 15%. Today was my first autocross track day, so its hard to rate the tire for that, but I will try. As far as grip goes, I went to Homestead AMR track at the small track for go-karts. Very tight track so as a first timer I was sliding around alot putting the tires through a lot and the grip was very consistent. Any tire can slide around if you don't drive well, I should've been on the throttle less and when I did let off a little bit it hooked right away. On launches at start they did loose some grip as the day got hotter but still vey consistent. Took corners very fast and braking hard. Tires still look pretty good after 21 laps taking some breaks in between. For daily driving it was a very grippy tire. Did ok in the rain as far as hydroplaning goes, wet traction though after rain stops was pretty good and was still grippy. Lower treadwear though so won't last as long as other tires, but they are grippier.

  • 24 positive
  • 48 negative

Reviews scoring 6 and below highlight significant treadwear concerns, with multiple users disappointed in tread life despite track-focused use. Several noted rapid wear, lasting only 3,600-8,000 miles or 6-8 track days, with heat cycling causing premature grip loss. Others reported tires reaching wear bars far sooner than expected, requiring frequent replacement even when rotated.

...They have worn well, grip fairly well when warm and have handled wet track duty better than I expected... I've gotten more life out of them than the much more expensive PS4S...

These tires are used for to/from track driving, as a track tire in the event of rain and for the occasional trip around town if I want to get the car out and about. Car is not a daily.
The V601 is a great tire for the price point. In my opinion, performs and has treadwear comparable to the PS4S for significantly less cost, which for me makes it a better tire. I’ve also had Cup 2’s on my car and not at all worth the price.
They have worn well, grip fairly well when warm and have handled wet track duty better than I expected. Drove home once through heavy rainfall, and though at reduced speeds they did not fell floaty or unstable. Biggest win for the V601 is a full set checked in around $1K (Yoko has good rebate offers) and I’ve gotten more life out of them than the much more expensive PS4S. I’ve been a Michelin loyalist for many years, but I think their tires aren’t as good as they used to be and are at the top of the cost range. Tires are not a place to “bargain shop” by any means, but these punch well above their weight and are good shoes.
