The Pilot Sport PS2 is a Max Performance Summer tire member of the Michelin Pilot family of low profile, high-speed tires. Initially developed for Original Equipment (O.E.) on some of the world's most prestigious sports cars and performance sedans, the Pilot Sport PS2 combines world-class dry road traction, handling and cornering. Some of the first Pilot Sport PS2 O.E. fitments included the BMW Alpina Z8, McLaren SLR and Porsche GT2/GT3 models. The Pilot Sport PS2 is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

On the outside, Pilot Sport PS2 features two different tread rubber compounds (a hybrid silica/carbon black compound that begins at the tire's outer shoulder and continues across the tread until it joins a high-silica compound that continues to the tire's inside shoulder) molded into an asymmetric design with large outer shoulder blocks and continuous intermediate and center ribs to enhance steering response and cornering stability. Both tread compounds are specifically formulated for their location to combine dry and wet traction with crisp corning and high speed capability. The tread design also features wide circumferential grooves and lateral notches that help channel water through the footprint to enhance wet road traction.

On the inside, the tread design is supported by two high-tensile, lightweight steel cord belts that are further reinforced by size-optimized, precisely placed individual Aramid/nylon hybrid filaments to provide improved steering response and resistance to distortion while enhancing ride quality and high-speed durability.

...Plenty of traction in the dry and decent enough in the wet...

There is a reason these tires are OE fitment on my Porsche. Plenty of traction in the dry and decent enough in the wet. Pairs very well with the overall handling capabilities of my car.

...Have not had to use these tires a lot in the rain yet (South East Coastal Georgia) and when I did I never experienced any hydroplaning or traction loss - but then again wasn't pushing it that hard either...

Excellent tire for spirited driving. Very predictable at the limits of adhesion. When cornering hard the tires start talking and increase in squeal as they get pushed harder thus easy to ride the limit. Have not experienced a sudden brake in traction as I did with another high-performance tire brand.
Have not had to use these tires a lot in the rain yet (South East Coastal Georgia) and when I did I never experienced any hydroplaning or traction loss - but then again wasn't pushing it that hard either.
Use these on my daily driver with lots of highway and city miles and with the softer sticky compound and spirited driving, they just don't last as long as I would like but that is the price to pay for an awesome tire on a sports car. Compromise I am willing to make and pay for. After about 10,000 miles am right now installing my next set. Will continue to buy these until Michelin comes out with a replacement or something better for my driving style.

Excellent engineering. Tires provide great grip around corners. When comparing these to Pirelli, Michelin pilot sports way exceed the performance of Pirelli tires.

The Michelin tires are absolutely fantastic. I drive the car really hard mostly on mountain roads. I wore out a set of these tires in 5500 miles. The performance is unmatched. I've purchased a couple sets of these tires and I'll buy them again.

Thank you Tirerack. Excellent service and very good pricing

...I went up a size from 18" to 19" and all ride and comfort is nearly the same...

My 2nd set of the Porsche rated PS2’s. I went up a size from 18” to 19” and all ride and comfort is nearly the same. Not a lot of time on these since TR wants a review a week after they were mounted. But my experience on the last set was great. Porsche designed the car with these tires and they won’t disappoint.

The Michelin Pilot Sport PS@ is superior in every way to the Michelin Pilot Sport Ribs they replaced. The ride is quieter and more comfortable. The noise is significantly less and the drumming sound is gone. The car tracks much better and the steering response is so improved I was amazed and the handling noticeably better. A strange vibration I had in the front end that defied any cure (and there were many tried) is now gone. Needless to say I am very happy with these tires, but I do wish the factory would check the run out before they ship the tires.

...Rear tires wore well. Front tires needed to be replaced... I was hoping I could get more DEs out of these tires. Typically I can get about 4 - 5 on the stock Pirellis...

Recently purchased my first set of PS2s for DE and autocross. Ran 2 days at sebring, 2 days at road Atlanta (and did double duty with my race instructor at RA) and an autocross. Rear tires wore well. Front tires needed to be replaced. Overall, excellent grip. Much better than OEM Pirellis. Very addictive levels of grip in fact. I have over 30 track days, 3 Porsche driving schools and run essentially a stock 991 except for pagid yellows and girodisc rotors. I was hoping I could get more DEs out of these tires. Typically I can get about 4 - 5 on the stock Pirellis. With that said, my home track is VIR and Sebring and Road Atlanta were brand new.

I would highly recommend these tires for grip. Road noise was quiet too - couldn't tell much difference between these and OEM. I am going to try one more pair of these and run at my home track to see how they perform for comparison to my OEM tires. Will keep everyone posted. These tires are definitely an investment. Rear tire got a nail in Road Atlanta parking lot so all four tires now retired for track use!

...None of the front tires could be used down to the wear marks because of heavy cornering. The white belts start popping through on the inside edges at about 75% treadwear guarantee...

I've tried the 4S and 3+ and they are are fine too. Each one gave me the listed milage. 40k, 30k and 20k. Traction is better by mileage rating. None of the front tires could be used down to the wear marks because of heavy cornering. The white belts start popping through on the inside edges at about 75% treadwear guarantee. Rear tires loose a lot of traction in wet weather at higher speeds when they are down to the wear marks. Had trouble getting the PS2's a few years ago. Michelin wasn't making them was the story I got from the tire store. All in all I would say they are as advertised.

Testing Max Performance Summer Tires Tuned for North American Drivers(03:46)

Driving in the U.S. and Canada vs. Europe or Asia is very different. The condition of our roads, the mix of urban driving plus extended highway cruising and even consumer preference vary. Continental Tire recognizes this as they develop tires tuned specifically for North American drivers.

To find out how well their most recent example, the ExtremeContact DW, meets the needs of the North American market, we compared it to three other Max Performance Summer tires: the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and Pirelli's P Zero.
