The Pilot Sport PS2 is a Max Performance Summer tire member of the Michelin Pilot family of low profile, high-speed tires. Initially developed for Original Equipment (O.E.) on some of the world's most prestigious sports cars and performance sedans, the Pilot Sport PS2 combines world-class dry road traction, handling and cornering. Some of the first Pilot Sport PS2 O.E. fitments included the BMW Alpina Z8, McLaren SLR and Porsche GT2/GT3 models. The Pilot Sport PS2 is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

On the outside, Pilot Sport PS2 features two different tread rubber compounds (a hybrid silica/carbon black compound that begins at the tire's outer shoulder and continues across the tread until it joins a high-silica compound that continues to the tire's inside shoulder) molded into an asymmetric design with large outer shoulder blocks and continuous intermediate and center ribs to enhance steering response and cornering stability. Both tread compounds are specifically formulated for their location to combine dry and wet traction with crisp corning and high speed capability. The tread design also features wide circumferential grooves and lateral notches that help channel water through the footprint to enhance wet road traction.

On the inside, the tread design is supported by two high-tensile, lightweight steel cord belts that are further reinforced by size-optimized, precisely placed individual Aramid/nylon hybrid filaments to provide improved steering response and resistance to distortion while enhancing ride quality and high-speed durability.

...wet traction is incredible (once they let loose, though, they are loose!)...

I replaced some fairly worn Kumho Exstas which came on the car. The PS2's are a huge improvement in every way. Dry traction is equal or better, tramlining is almost nonexistent now, wet traction is incredible (once they let loose, though, they are loose!), and ride and noise levels are really impressive. I have them on two cars now, and PS2's are the best tire in this class. They replaced Conti SportContacts on our other car, and they were a huge upgrade there, too.

...They have excellent traction without requiring warm up, have excellent wet road traction and performance. In the wet, with DSC off it takes extra effort to spin the rear wheels and they have predictable understeer when pushed around corners...

I purchased a set of these tires to replace the worn out set of Sport Pilots that were on my car that had achieved 27K miles, complete with at least 4 track days (one of which was a rainy day) and still they were not quite down to the wear bars. Clearly though, the old set was work hardened and not performing well at the track or comfortably on the road.

What a HUGE difference these new Sport Pilot PS2 tires made to the track handling and overall driveability and comfort of the car! Wow! Over the years I have tried other tires, Conti Sports, Bridgestones Pole Position, Kumho Ecsta XS and frankly none of them can hold a candle to the Michelin Sport Pilot series of tires in terms of overall performance. I'm not saying that the other tires aren't good tires for the money but, if you want outstanding performance in a tire that you can drive on the street in comfort and flog to the limits and beyond on the track and still get some mileage from then the Sport Pilot is the best one out there and the PS2 is even better. My car sticks like glue around Willow Springs - utterly amazing. These tires are very predictable when driven to the limit and very forgiving when pushed beyond those limits. Very little scalloping of the outside and little to no roll up of rubber along the outer 1/3 of the tires - a common sight on all of the other tires that I have run at the track and see on other similar cars at the track. This is also a marked improvement over the earlier Sport Pilot version of the tire.

At the same time, the these tires are also excellent driving around town and very comfortable driving down the freeway, low noise and comfortable over the miles of expansion joints. They have excellent traction without requiring warm up, have excellent wet road traction and performance. In the wet, with DSC off it takes some extra effort to spin the rear wheels and they have predictable understeer when pushed around corners. You will be pleased with these tires!

...I have driven home from the track in a down pour and never had a problem...

These tires rock. I drive my 2007 Corvette C6 with the Z51 performance package to and from race track events and my wheels are too big to fit in my trunk. I do not want the hassle of trailing the car or even of pulling a tire trailer. As a result, I put the Michelin PS2's on my dedsicated track wheels. I change wheels at home and drive to and from the track. These tires are great on the road. I have never had a problem. They are also great on the track. I am sure that a dedicated track tire that you cannot safely drive on the street would have a little more grip. But these tires are great. I loved the Michelin Pilot Sports and these are much better. All that grip does come at the coast of tread wear. I wore out the left front after two seasons, attending 5 three day high speed driving schools each season. The Pilot Sports lasted longer but they did not grip as well. I race at MoSport and at Mid Ohio and these tires are fantastic. I have driven home from the track in a down pour and never had a problem. I highly recommend these tires.

Tires are near-perfect for my purposes: comfortable cruising interspersed among autocross and quick back-country touring. They are on 19x9/10" rims, so they aren't eligible for rotation. I've really abused them, dry-traction-wise, on three different late-model Mustangs including the current GT/CS convertible, a 2009 GT/CS coupe, and the original beneficiary, a 2006 V6 convertible. I've tried other tire/wheel configurations, and it always comes back down to the wonderful ride comfort and cornering power without compromise. Great tires, and if I ever wear them out, I hope there will be new ones for purchase.

...Dry traction is excellent. In curves they grip the road beyond the point at which I am comfortable...

These tires were the OEM tires for the Crossfire (18" on the front, 19" rear tires). Dry traction is excellent. In curves they grip the road beyond the point at which I am comfortable. I was surprised by how well these tires also perform in wet conditions. After 10,400 miles all 4 tires have more than 6/32" tread left which suggests they should last at around 25K miles, possibly longer which is respectable for a high performance tire. Obviously, since this is specifically a summer tire, do not purchase them if you envision ever driving in any snow or ice. I would consider purchasing again except that these tires currently seem expensive compared to several other strong offerings from other brands.

Best high performance tire on the market. Worth the price. I spend a fair ammount if time on the track with this car and these tires are the best I've had. I have tried so-3's, ADVAN, pzero, ps1s couple models also but none were as good as these. So-3's being in my opinion the next best. On the plus side this compound remains grippy throughout the life of the tire and really holds up well against extreme heat from a track. Sure they don't last long (6-7k on the rears 11k front roughly) but that is to be expected from a high performance tire. So I can't knock the tires for that really. If you have a high perfomance Car and really want to drive it the way it was ment to be driven then these are the tires for you. Enthuasists only. I wouldn't recommend these tires to a casual driver as they are expensive and you won't notice a huge difference in everyday driving from a say so-3 (saving a bit of money). I really want to compliment the sidewalls of the tires as they really are second to none. These babies stack up against track only tires while giving you outstanding wet performance. Whatever car a the time is my best performance machine will only get Michelin ps2s until they come out with the models replacement. I'll save the tinkering with tires on other vehicles.

...Considering the lo profile, comfort has been good, if any softer sidewalls I would fear for the rims...

I have put 40K miles on the TT and 70+k on a Miata and the PS2 has been the best tire by far vs the OEM Bridgestones, aftermarket Yokohama and Falkens on either car. Never pushed PS2 to near limit but always confidence inspiring feel. Great stability in torrential downpours at hwy speed. Excellent steering response and stick on hard braking, no noticeable tramlining on SCs often rutted roads. Very difficult to break loose on acceleration from dead stop even when trying. Only a little noise in the last 5K mi, but rate noise as very very good throughout its life. Considering the lo profile, comfort has been good, if any softer sidewalls I would fear for the rims. Pleased with the 30K mi I have gotten to date. Tire seller said I would get 40K but Michelin warrants 20k so I am not complaining. I could probably eek out a few more miles but current fronts are suffering from outside scrub due to alignment issues. All are nearing 2/32 nds so I don't want to push to far. Thinking of replacing with the Mich PS AS+ due to 45K mileage rating and slightly better comfort, but I have read of tracking issues, road hum, and poorer fuel economy for the AS+. The PS 2 has been out there for a while so I am a little concerned that Michelin may discontinue it and if I have a road haz claim on one tire over the next 30 K, as happened with my first set, I may not be able to replace just one tire. Other than the Michelin AS tires I have been running on Camry, Avalon and the current Lexus ES350 sedan, I have not been more pleased with any other tire, ever. Leaning towards another set of the PS2 for that reason.

...They have also been comfortable on the road - not very noisy and no tramlining in the stud tracks on our wonderful freeways...

Great tire on this car, for both the road and the track. I just got back from a very wet track weekend at Portland International Raceway, and these tires were one of very few brands/models that managed to handle both a very wet slick track and standing water without serious difficulty. I frankly was completely surprise by how well they worked in the wet with my Quattro system to allow very fast laps in really wet conditions.

I spent another weekend last month at Infineon on a very dry track, and they were responsive and communicated their intent very well.

They have also been comfortable on the road - not very noisy and no tramlining in the stud tracks on our wonderful freeways.

All in all a great tire and I'm glad to have spent the money for these tires.

...Comfort and noise were very nice - even compared to a grand touring tire I had previously. The touring tire was a little quieter but also a bit too soft for handling.

I was really pleased with these tires. They could have lasted another maybe 3000 miles but I damaged a sidewall against a curb and will replace them all. This was about what I expected in treadwear. I was impressed by wet handling - I dont recall ever hydroplaning or being scared by any slip. Comfort and noise were very nice - even compared to a "grand touring" tire I had previously. The touring tire was a little quieter but also a bit too soft for handling.

...my tread wear has been unbelievable...I am just now replacing my rear tires 295/30/19 after 15,000+ hard core miles on them...I was pleasantly surprised they lasted this long. The fronts are in EXCELLENT shape...

This tire is the single best high performance tire your money will buy. I have a significantly modified M3 lowered with the stiffest suspension kit imaginable and I drive it the way it should be. These tires are sick at high speed handling...140+ and you feel glued to the road into EVERY turn...my tread wear has been unbelievable...I am just now replacing my rear tires 295/30/19 after 15,000+ hard core miles on them...I was pleasantly surprised they lasted this long. I have run every high performace tire available and the PS2 is by far the best high performance tire on the market...

If you are serious about significantly improving your cars performance...then I strongly recommend this tire.

...Very little tread wear after 3000 miles which is surprising for someone that typically gets only 15K to 20K on a set of tires for this car. If this performance and ride quality continues throughout the life of the tire I will definitely be purchasing PS2 again...

Outstanding tire used on my 2000 Corvette thus far. Had S03, and OEM Goodyears prior, nothing comes close to these Michelins. Most notable feature of the tire is how quiet and smooth the ride has become with the Michelin PS2s. Outstanding grip and traction compared to Bridgestone's (SO3), Yokohoma (AVS Sports), and Goodyear's (OEM Run Flats) brands on dry roads, good adhesion in the rain. Very little tread wear after 3000 miles which is surprising for someone that typically gets only 15K to 20K on a set of tires for this car. If this performance and ride quality continues throughout the life of the tire I will definitely be purchasing PS2 again. The overall ride quality is well worth the minor difference of a few bucks per tire difference in cost.

Testing Max Performance Summer Tires Tuned for North American Drivers (03:46)

Driving in the U.S. and Canada vs. Europe or Asia is very different. The condition of our roads, the mix of urban driving plus extended highway cruising and even consumer preference vary. Continental Tire recognizes this as they develop tires tuned specifically for North American drivers.

To find out how well their most recent example, the ExtremeContact DW, meets the needs of the North American market, we compared it to three other Max Performance Summer tires: the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and Pirelli's P Zero.
