The SP Sport 5000M is Dunlop's Ultra High Performance All-Season radial developed for Original Equipment use on coupes, performance sedans and sporty crossover vehicles. The SP Sport 5000M is designed to provide ultra high performance and all-season versatility by blending traction on dry, wet and wintry roads, including in occasional light snow.
The SP Sport 5000M molds a high performance all-season tread compound into a symmetric tread design consisting of a continuous center rib flanked by independent intermediate and shoulder blocks that blend traction, treadwear and rolling resistance to meet a wide range of driving conditions. Full-face, engineered crosscut sipes provide more biting edges for slush and snow traction. The tires' internal structures include twin steel belts reinforced by Dunlop's Jointless Band (JLB) technology that uses spirally wound nylon to provide high-speed durability while it reduces weight and helps provide more uniform ride quality.

Ratings indicate the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M delivers excellent dry traction (scores 8-10) and a comfortable ride, aligning with its Ultra High Performance All-Season focus. However, wet traction shows mixed results (scores 3-8), with some reports of hydroplaning concerns. Winter performance raises red flags, with many scores below 5 in snow/ice conditions, falling short of all-season expectations. Treadwear scores (averaging 5-6) suggest limited longevity compared to competitors. While drivers praise its dry grip and refinement, those prioritizing year-round capability may find its wet and winter traction inadequate for severe conditions.

...These tires stick like glue... These tires are infinitely better than the Goodyear Eagle GAs that came with the car. Theyre much better on dry pavement, wet pavement, and snow, and their cornering is much crisper...
I know that theyre SP Sport 5000, and theyre all-season, but Im not sure about the further designations that you give - its possible I didnt pick the correct selection. In any case, these tires are great and stick like glue. My dad was a sports car nut, so I come by a love for sporty handling honestly (along with both our cars having manual transmissions - automatic has no redeeming features whatsoever - kills acceleration, worse on snow, worse in hills/mountains, and generally takes the fun out of driving). These tires are infinitely better than the Goodyear Eagle GAs that came with the car. Theyre much better on dry pavement, wet pavement, and snow, and their cornering is much crisper. When my wifes VW Golf needed new tires, we got the same Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires for it, too. Before, the Golfs long-treadwear (low-traction) tires were easier to spin than the Passats on startup - actually too easy to spin, especially when starting up a steep hill and jumping from the brake to gas quickly to avoid rolling backwards. That was true in spite of 115 hp in the Golf vs. 172 hp and much more torque in the Passat. Now, her car sticks to the road much better, too. The Dunlops last around 30,000-35,000 miles, but Id rather have traction than a long-lasting tire that doesnt grip the pavement worth diddly-squat, especially when some idiot pulls out in front of me and I need to stop fast, but also when having fun in corners.

...The real strength of this tire is handling, cornering, and stability at high speed. There are sections of highways I use with a 75MPH speed limit. The tires are very steady and stable @ 75+. I sneak up to 100MPH when no one's looking. No problem...
I bought a used Hyundai Genesis with the Dunlop OE tires. The car and tires had 18,000 miles on . I've driven 2500 more miles. I like the tires on this sporty 4 door sedan. The car has a lot of built in sound deadening so the tread pattern noise is not bothersome and disappears above 40 MPH. The ride comfort over bumps, potholes, and tar strips is noticeable but not harsh or annoying. I rated ride comfort and noise level a 7 out of 10. The real strength of this tire is handling, cornering, and stability at high speed. There are sections of highways I use with a 75MPH speed limit. The tires are very steady and stable @ 75+. I sneak up to 100MPH when no one's looking. No problem. I rated it at 9 out of 10 for cornering and dry traction. Steering response is excellent. The tire tracks true and goes wear you point it. I rated it 10 out of 10. I've driven the car on wet pavement and in heavy rain. The wet traction is good but not great. I rated it 8 out of 10. I have not driven in snow but did get stuck in my lawn on a flat spot. I'm guessing snow and ice traction would be about the same near to none I measured the remaining tread @ 5/32 of an inch. That's half gone at 20K. The car had obviously been well taken care of including wheel alignments, tire rotation, and balance. I've had the tires rotated and balanced @20K. The tire wear on all tires is even and smooth. The tires have no cupping or worn wear patterns. I won't buy another set of these tires after another 10K miles when they're due for a change. I'm going for a softer, quieter, more luxurious ride probably a Pirelli Cinturato P7 all season Plus which should get better mileage also.

...These tires are still fantastic in the dry... Steering response with 195/50-16 stock size is great...
Overnight, at 11,000 miles, these tires went from adequate to useless in the rain, for stopping, starting, hydroplane resistance; I am now very careful when I corner. This low-powered car has an automatic transmission, so I cant really drive the car hard. Tread depth is 7/32 at the front, and 8/32 at the back, although the tires were rotated 5,000 miles ago. These tires are still fantastic in the dry, but its not always dry, and Ive read enough about them to know not to try them in the snow. Steering response with 195/50-16 stock size is great, and nobody complains about the stiff ride, which is as much to do with the suspension, as the tires.

...I really liked these tires for their handling capabilities, corning responsiveness, ride comfort, and noise level...
These are the OEM tires that came with my vehicle. I really liked these tires for their handling capabilities, corning responsiveness, ride comfort, and noise level. But they wore out EXTREMLY quickly (20K miles). Their cheap and soft and just don't have the endurance I would have expected.
But if you're looking for a relatively quiet tire, that handles and grips really well (in corners, I had a few times where they would lose traction from a start [in a manual transmission vehicle], and under hard excelleration even in 2nd gear) and is comfortable, and do not care about longevity, this is a great tire.
But if you're looking for longevity, this is not what you want.
I won't be purchasing this tire again.

...Road noise is moderate and easily forgotten. The ride comfort is a tad stiff but what do you expect from a 50 series tire...
These are a decent tire in the turns but on acceleration are easily overpowered. These tires have a quick repsonse when turning in and do inspire a moderate to high level of confidence. High speed stability is also good (ie 100mph+). Dry braking is adequate as well as wet braking. Hydroplane resistance is poor, making for an interesting driving experience even at relatively low speeds. Road noise is moderate and easily forgotten. The ride comfort is a tad stiff but what do you expect from a 50 series tire. Overall I would rate these tires a 7.0 on a scale out of ten. I would have given them a higher rating but due to their poor hydroplane resistance this has influenced my decision. Also, I have yet to try these in light snow and am not looking forward to it. As for tread wear, I only have 3200 miles on the these tires which came stock on the P5 and they seem to be holding up with my driving style.

...Quiet & comfortable, even when completely bald at 60k...
This tire was OE for the 2004 LS430. Ran from new all the way to 60K. Quiet & comfortable, even when completely bald at 60k. Great experience with this tire. Replaced with Hankook Ventus V4 ES, can't say they are any better than the Dunlop Sport 5000 M.

Many customers report mediocre wet traction, with scores between 3-6. Frequent mentions of hydroplaning and sliding indicate unacceptable performance for an all-season tire, leaving drivers disappointed in wet conditions.

...Get in wet weather conditions however, and it feels like you have no control at all. These tires have the worst wet weather traction and are the most susceptible to hydroplaning of any tires Ive owned.
The SP Sport 5000M in size 195/50-16 are OEM on my 2002 Mazda Protege 5. When the weathers dry, theyre hard to beat. The car tracks as if its on rails, the tire acts predictably, steering feel is light but well-coupled to the driver. Get in wet weather conditions however, and it feels like you have no control at all. These tires have the worst wet weather traction and are the most susceptible to hydroplaning of any tires Ive owned. Granted, I am used to "summer" tires, but I expected more for tires that appear to be so well regarded in surveys. Ive used Dunlop tires for 12 years (D40/M2 and SP Sport 8000) and loved them, but these all-season tires are actually hazardous to my health. The Protege 5 will torque steer and point itself in any direction other than straight ahead when it breaks grip on any front tire, so the SP Sport 5000M is NOT recommended for this particular platform.

...Tires handled terribly in wet/snow conditions but did OK in dry conditions...
Have a little more than 18,000 miles on these OE tires. Tires handled terribly in wet/snow conditions but did OK in dry conditions. Very dissapointed in treadwear rating, considering most of my driving is highway. Would not purchase tire again unless I had to. Plus 1 size and went with Bridgestone Potenza G009, very happy with change, these tires are everything Dunlops are not.

...Wet: they work, but poorly. Hydroplane easily, feel squishy, slide a lot.
Dry: a little edgy (could also be the car) but extremely responsive and grippy. Theres just not enough power to make them slip. Do have a slight tendency to follow grooves in the pavement. Wet: they work, but poorly. Hydroplane easily, feel squishy, slide a lot. Key feature: on dry pavement its very hard to get into the ABS - they grip so much you have to back off to keep the person behind from hitting you; in the wet the ABS gets used a LOT. Wear seems to be minor so far, but I dont drive hard and after all there are only 5K miles on the car. Ride is kind of hard, but thats the cars style anyway. Noise OK - quieter than the Dunlop A2s on the Camry. I do hope there are decent alternatives when replacement time comes - especially something that works better in the wet.

Many customers report poor winter traction, with scores frequently between 0-5. While some rate 6-7, majority note lack of snow/ice grip, leading to slippery conditions and unstable handling in all-season use.

...In in the snow they are completely worthless. They even allowed my car to slide down a hill with the wheels locked when I was trying to go UP it!...
These came installed from the factory on my Lancer Sportback. They ride and corner great in dry and wet conditions. In the snow they are completely worthless. They even allowed my car to slide down a hill with the wheels locked when I was trying to go UP it! My biggest problem was that they went bald insanely fast. I had the car for less than a year and put on 20,000 miles and they are way overdue for replacement. Granted, I like to take corners for fun, but these things melted right off on the back almost as quickly as the front. Do not buy them.

...I needed an tow trying to negotiate 2 of snow on an upgrade, with no turning around... disgraceful in the snow.
Good thing I work from home 3 days a week or I would have had a nervous breakdown by now. I needed an tow trying to negotiate 2" of snow on an upgrade, with no turning around. Hyundai should be ashamed to put these tires on an otherwise inspiring Genesis vehicle. Southern divers will find these tires acceptable. Otherwise, pay anything to go home with another OE tire....disgraceful in the snow.
