The ContiProContact SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) is Continental's Grand Touring All-Season run-flat tire designed to provide temporary extended mobility in case of complete air loss due to a puncture. The ContiProContact SSR is designed to blend good looks, low noise and the assurance of extended mobility along with the versatility of all-season traction, even in light snow.

ContiProContact SSR tires permit drivers to remain mobile in the event of a flat tire by allowing them to reach their destination or tire service facility without having to replace a flat tire with the spare tire. The ContiProContact SSR's reinforced sidewall enables the car to continue on its way at a maximum speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) for up to 50 miles (80 km), depending on road conditions and vehicle weight.

The ContiProContact SSR features an all-season tread compound molded into a symmetric, notched-rib tread design that provides continuous tread contact with the road to enhance steering response and handling while its wide circumferential grooves promote hydroplaning resistance and wet traction. Continental's PROactive Edge Technology places at least 800 arched edges in each ContiProContact SSR tire's tread design to bring more active edges into the contact patch to promote stormy-weather traction while allowing the pattern elements to transfer smoothly from edge to edge to minimize on-road noise.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to stabilize the tread area promoting uniformity and high-speed durability along with reinforced self-supporting sidewalls that prevent the inside of the tire from getting pinched between the road and the rim in the event of a loss of inflation.

Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. Because MOExtended or MOE tires do not have the same speed and distance endurance of conventional run-flat tires, they should not be substituted in any situation where a conventional run-flat tire is required. To confirm what your vehicle needs, check our Original Equipment tire listing for your year, make and model or see your vehicle owner's manual.

Continental Reviews

Ratings highlight excellence in dry traction (8-10) and responsive steering, with many customers praising confident handling. Comfort receives generally positive feedback (7-9), though some note variability in ride smoothness and noise levels. Treadwear scores (7-10) reflect strong durability for a grand touring tire, though a few report premature wear. Winter traction is reliable in light snow (6-8), but ice performance (1-5) falls short, aligning with typical all-season limitations. Wet grip (7-8) is solid for most conditions, though hydroplaning resistance shows occasional dips (5-7) in heavy rain. Ideal for drivers prioritizing year-round versatility with a focus on dry-road confidence.

...Traction in rain/snow is very good...

BMW with base suspension 3 series and AWD. Excellent run-flat tire, do not notice excessive noise or harshness. Traction in rain/snow is very good. If one hits a pothole, there is increased feedback. However, I would take that minimal disturbance to completely changing the characteristics of the suspension's unsprung mass by using non run-flats tires.

...Wet performance is excellent...

OEM tires on a 2010 Mini Cooper S Hardtop, and my first experience with Continental Tires. Overall I'm satisfied with the tires as far as performance and wear go, although I'm looking to switch to Michelins in the next few weeks since the tread is just about down to the wear bars. (Fell in love with Michelins a few years ago when I got a set on sale for my Honda. They lasted close to 80,000 miles with great performance throughout the life of the tire. Based on that, got a set for my Explorer and when the tires on the Harley come due, switching them to Mickeys as well.)
Was a little dubious about "run flat" tires, but since having two punctures, I'm very pleased with that particular feature. The owners manual says they can be driven up to 80 miles with zero pressure in the tire as long as you don't exceed 50 MPH. In both cases, I only had to drive a few miles to get the tire repaired.
Cornering, stability, and traction on dry pavement is outstanding. Wet performance is excellent. Can't really comment on snow performance since we get little of it in this part of Kentucky. Other people commenting have slammed the mileage life of the tires, and they have worn faster than other tires I have owned (Goodyear, Dunlop, Kumho, Firestone, Bridgestone)but I think that is to be expected with a tire designed with performance in mind, especially when your driving style is "spirited."

...As for snow/ice conditions...these aren't winter tires but they're competent. I keep any acceleration, deceleration and steering smooth and gentle so I can't comment on how far they'll go. I've never pushed them in those conditions...

Came as OEM tires on my 2014 CLA250, purchased in Oct 2013, with 52,000 miles of mixed NJ backroad/city/highway on them and still at 4.6mm (just under 6/32") tread left. Not sure what folks with poor tread wear are doing to their tires, but I sure don't have any complaints. Tires are rotated at ever 10k miles with regular service, nothing more. Traction is predictable, average drivers should be able to feel when it's getting pushed (even with moderately numb CLA steering) and when to back off. Some caution if the pavement you drive on have running seams or cracks, these tires track on them more than I've noticed on any other tires. Lane changes over long snaky asphalt cracks on some of these NJ highways, the tires want to pull and follow the crack instead.

Wet road traction is good, no more discernible loss of confidence at 65+ mph on Interstates in the rain than any other tires.

As for snow/ice conditions...these aren't winter tires but they're competent. I keep any acceleration, deceleration and steering smooth and gentle so I can't comment on how far they'll go. I've never pushed them in those conditions.

They're run-flats, a stiffer ride is to be expected so they perform as I expect on the comfort front. Only real complaint is the highway tire noise, there's a lot of it.

Would I buy these again? Probably not for the CLA, not enough sound insulation for tires this noisy. Even on super smooth highways, at 65+ mph it is pretty awful.

These came with purchase at 12k miles. I rode them to
40k. Got a second pair and am at 90k. Time to
Purchase. The fronts do burn quickly but that is normal. Great traction. Really holds the road. I live in Northeast and always buy winter specific tires. I rode these all seasons thru the winter and loved them. Yes the All4 helps but I was surprised at how good they run in snow. Only negative? The run flats are so stiff on any pothole bump frost heave. Rattles your teeth.

...Dry traction is good, snow traction is average, with ice... forget about it!...

I replaced the original Bridgestone Turanza EL 42 with these tires, although traction is a little better with these tires, the ride is horrible. it feels like riding on rocks. Vibration is tolerable as long as you are driving below 40 MPH, as you accelerate to highway speed your wrist will hurt after an hour drive to Boston. Dry traction is good, snow traction is average, with ice... forget about it! minimal traction (still better than no traction with the EL 42)
I am already contemplating replacing them with standard tires. No good RFT available at this time
I would definitely NOT recommend those tires to anybody.

Drove about 100 miles in some very heavy rain, with some hydro-planing on deeper pubbles. Overall, very impressed with this run-flat tire (this is my first experience with run-flats). Dry pavement performance is excellent, hardly notice any difference from previous car with non run-flats...

...The dry traction was great and try as hard as I could, I never did break them loose on the street (never had them on the track though)...

I've been interested in RF's ever since reading about early developments 30 years ago or so. When I got my Mini I figured I would give them a try. I have to say, if roads were perfect, these tires would not be bad.

For me, the wear was the most positive thing. Lasting almost 45K is something I never expected. The dry traction was great and try as hard as I could, I never did break them loose on the street (never had them on the track though).

There are 2 things that really made me hate this tire: HARSH Ride and Unpredictability. I guess I should have known, if you can drive on it flat they're going to be harsh but this was ridiculous. Every little seam, joint, ridge whatever was transmitted up. Kinda fun for the first week around town. Very tiring on a long trip.

The most disappointing thing was the terrifying transitions when hitting a seam not quite perpendicular when coming around a curve with less than perfect camber. Unprepared, it feels like something huge just jerked the wheel out of your hand. Very unnerving. I learned to live with it but never really got used to it. I never have driven with a death grip on the wheel but I began to with these tires. Just not worth it.

Overall, the negatives outweigh the positives for me. I would not recommend nor would I buy these tires again.

My wife has had these tires on her 2009 BMW E92 328ix Coupe for 3 years and about 22K miles. They were new when she got the car and they are nowhere near worn out. She does a fair amoung of freeway driving at 70-80 MPH and the tires are smooth, quiet (for a 3-series sports coupe) and have been pleasing to drive. Handling is quite good, and bending corners is a real pleasure with these tires - they seem to have good "stick." Although they're run-flats, they are only slightly more harsh than a standard time over bumps and seams in pavement. Winter and snow traction has been pretty good, and she has never had a problem getting around in snow. all in all we're pretty pleased with these. We don't know yet how much mileage we'll get out of them, but we're encouraged by the fact that the tires still have good tread depth.

...At 42k mine are evenly worn and are absolutely quiet...

Contrary to some reviews I feel these are phenomenal run flats for the money. They came stock on my third 3-series. In contrast to the stock CH95 that came with a previous vehicle these tires are fully usable when wet while worn to tread wear indicators. ( I do not use them in snow) Even replacement Bridgestone Turanzas from my last E46 that actually marketed progressive wet traction increase could not match these tires when worn. Nothing surprising, of course, tire technology is a competitive business. Their weakness is in slight bump harshness and softness on high speed steering precision. At 42k mine are evenly worn and are absolutely quiet. In most cases when your tires get loud you can blame the car maker for specifying unsuitable alignment specs for the vehicle, unsuitable tires for the vehicle or as in many cars the alignment was off straight from the factory due to poor production process controls.

...With more than 54,000 miles on these tires, there is fully more than half the tread life remaininga??and I drive this thing on afterburner most of the time...

I realize different drivers with different cars will experience different results with this same tire, but my experience has been superlative.

With more thyan 54,000 miles on these tires, there is fully more than half the tread life remaining—and I drive this thing on afterburner most of the time. I'm just buying a Rr replacement because of a puncture, but I found the run-flat capability to be as advertised. As tough as these tires are supposed to be to repair, my puncture was successfully plugged in an iffy area of the tread area, and it held up well for three months.

They handle well in the wet and dry, and the road noise is class-average, I suppose. Not horrible, not super quiet. But these are performance tires on a performance car, so any road noise is not in my pro/con matrix.

Yes, I would buy them again. In fact, I just did.
