The HTR Z (High Technology Radials-1st generation) is Sumitomo's Ultra High Performance Summer tire developed for the drivers of sports cars, sporty coupes and performance sedans. The HTR Z is designed to be a confident performer on wet and dry surfaces, however like all summer tires, it is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

The HTR Z features a directional tread pattern that combines angular shoulder blocks, independent intermediate blocks and a continuous center rib to enhance dry road grip and directional stability. Four circumferential grooves efficiently remove water from the contact patch to resist hydroplaning.

The tire's internal structure features two steel belts with spirally wrapped Jointless Nylon Band (JNB) reinforcement to enhance high-speed durability while minimizing weight and improving ride uniformity. The lower sidewall features sidewall stiffeners to enhance steering response and overall handling.
