The WeatherGrip is Firestone's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of coupes, family sedans, station wagons and crossovers looking to combine daily comfort, wet grip and satisfying tire life with enhanced light snow traction. WeatherGrip tires were designed as an all-weather tire to meet industry severe snow service requirements qualifying for the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol alongside its all-season performance. It is Intended as a one-tire solution for drivers in environments that experience all four seasons, but don't receive sufficient snowfall or icy conditions to require a dedicated winter tire.

The all-season tread compound of the WeatherGrip is molded into a traction-focused, directional pattern. Firestone's Hydro-Grip Technology Package utilizes a rounded footprint that pierces through standing water, plus full-depth grooves and open shoulder slots to help resist hydroplaning. Chamfered shoulder blocks provide additional contact with the road for enhanced braking in all conditions. Snow Traction Claw technology on the center and shoulder ribs plus snow vices on the intermediate ribs help provide confident traction in light snow, while the high-density zigzag sipes and interlocking grooves of the TractionTech Package create more edges for enhanced performance in slippery conditions throughout the tire's life.

Internal construction of the WeatherGrip consists of a single-ply polyester casing supporting two steel belts. A nylon reinforcement aids in handling performance and provides high-speed durability.

Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.

Firestone WeatherGrip Reviews

Customers think the Firestone WeatherGrip delivers strong all-season performance, with standout comfort highlighted by smooth ride quality and low noise levels. Treadwear receives praise from many for durability, though a few note concerns about uneven wear. Winter traction earns consistent high marks for confident handling in snow and slush, while wet grip and hydroplaning resistance are rated highly for secure driving in rain. Dry traction is reliably strong, with responsive steering and stable cornering. A handful of lower treadwear scores suggest variability in long-term wear experiences, but overall satisfaction leans positive across key categories for grand touring use.

...I've never experienced hydroplaning in wet conditions, even at freeway speeds...

These tires are fantastic for winter driving. They even handle deep snow, rarely breaking traction. I've never experienced hydroplaning in wet conditions, even at freeway speeds.
On dry pavement, I can feel some slight feedback resulting from the more aggressive tread design, but it's very minimal and an acceptable compromise considering the winter driving capabilities. The tread design also generates more road noise than less aggressive tires, but my car is an older, small coupe that resonates engine noise anyway, so the road noise doesn't bother me, and it's minimal. Again, the pros of the winter capabilities far over ride the cons mentioned.
After 1 year and nearly 10000 miles, the wear is barely noticeable. These tires will be extremely reliable for this year's upcoming winter commuting.

...I have been very pleased with their performance in the winter. I do drive according to the weather but at no point have I had an issue with these tires. My ABS rarely if ever kicks in coming to a stop...

Bought these tires after moving to Minot North Dakota after local tire dealer suggested all weather tires when I was considering snow tires. After doing research on my own, these tires were rated highest for snow/ice in the all weather category. I have been very pleased with their performance in the winter. I do drive according to the weather but at no point have I had an issue with these tires. My ABS rarely if ever kicks in coming to a stop. Prior to switching from Michelin A/S Premiere tires the ABS was kicking in all the time when coming to a stop. I drive for the weather conditions which is basically slowing way down as the roads are often covered in ice/snow. Highly recommend these tires and would definitely purchase again.

Drove into an unexpected snowstorm with near blizzard conditions. Streets were hard packed with additional snow falling. Traction was great for accelerating from a stop, but what impressed me most was stopping ability with no noticeable sliding when braking. Side to side stability was impressive as well as crosswinds were gusting to 40-45 mph.

I feel like I am holding onto the road much better in normal conditions than I ever have.

I was skeptical of getting expensive tires. I thought with winter coming and a family of 5 it would be worth it. Plus, tirerack was able to get me cheaper 3 year old tires.

Best decision of my life. I've never had nice tires, and these have been great in the snow and rain that we get here in PA, and I feel like I am holding onto the road much better in normal conditions than I ever have.

Overall, these are excellent tires! The ONLY issue I have with them is that on a very smooth (as in new tarmac) there is a noticeable hum. On all other road surfaces, it’s not noticeable. I have purchased these tires for two other of my cars and they were great. I use them year round and get over three years of use out of them which is acceptable to me.

...I will say I didn't expect the mileage I get out of these tires. It's the same as my all season tires...

This is my third set. I have tried a different winter tire on my other Jetta ('13) and instantly regretted them. These tires work on a variety of car sizes. Wet snow and ice are the most common conditions, along with heavy rain, where I live. I will say I didn't expect the mileage I get out of these tires. It's the same as my all season tires. I have never put chains on these tires. These tires are the best winter tires I have run, with the conditions that I drive in.
