The Discoverer Stronghold AT is Cooper's Off-Road All-Terrain tire, built for the drivers of pickups, crossovers, and SUVs looking for dependable traction off-road that can still offer some comfort on the pavement. Purpose-built to conquer dirt, gravel, mud, and the challenges of the city streets. It seamlessly blends off-road capability with secure on-road performance and reliable year-round traction. Notably, it handles light snow capably enough to meet the tire industry's severe snow service rating and displays the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

Discoverer Stronghold AT callouts

The Discoverer Stronghold AT's specialized rubber compound forms the base of its next-generation all-terrain tread pattern. This design features tough, interlocking tread blocks for off-road action, while adjusting the individual lug designs for improved tread-life and resistance to irregular wear. The alternating scoop lugs in the shoulders join the distinctive hook sidewall molding to find grip in gravel or loose soil, while stone-ejecting ledges between each block keep rocks from getting lodged in the tread. Deep, circumferential grooves and wide, lateral notches fight against hydroplaning. Alternating textured edges lining the shoulder block interiors create biting edges needed for snow traction when winter strikes.

The internal construction of the Discoverer Stronghold AT consists of a robust, two-ply polyester casing. A single-ply, polyamide reinforcement above two high-strength steel belts further increases durability and handling response, along with providing high-speed stability.

Note: While non-winter tires featuring the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol may provide additional longitudinal snow traction beyond what all-season (M+S) tires not bearing the symbol can deliver, they do not match the capability of a true winter tire in all adverse weather conditions.

...Wet traction in the spring wet season is excellent, never once hydroplaned even with flooding we had last year...

Had these on my F250 for about a year now, use the truck for mostly towing and hauling. These tires have stiff sidewalls which can make a rough ride with an empty truck but it also provides excellent lateral stability while moving
my 5th wheel or carrying significant weight. Tread provides excellent snow traction in NH winter, never had an issue pulling sled trailer through the mountains in deep snow. Wet traction in the spring wet season is excellent, never once hydroplaned even with flooding we had last year. Use these on my woods road for collecting firewood as well, extremely impressed with these tires and would recommend them to anyone looking for heavy truck tires for year-round towing and hauling in any weather.

...The poor weather traction for an aggressive all terrain has been exceptional. I don't take too much for granted in the rain so have not pushed their limits there...

Tire size for these was an intentional decision to go narrow. The poor weather traction for an aggressive all terrain has been exceptional. I don't take too much for granted in the rain so have not pushed their limits there. But snow, both light and +14" on and off pavement have been exactly what I had hoped for. Very sure footed. Not certain how much is the contact and how much is the tread design. But the compound has been good in conditions my old Dynapro's were lacking even early in their lifespan. Road noise is present, but these make of for that in every other way. Compared to similar offerings you won't be left with large spaces without siping/grooves as many others.
I have zero regrets and recommend them to anyone in the market for such a category of tire.

...I have better traction in all weathers... I would say it's the same amount of noise but better rain traction.

Really good for the money. these replaced some KO 2’s that I had. These are actually a lot better than those were. They’re a little quieter. They balanced better and I have better traction in all weathers another tired that I’ve had was the little ridge grappler. I would say it’s the same amount of noise but better rain traction.

...These are not true winter tires but have performed admirably in the fresh mountain snow and most recently in the 8-10 inch accumulation we just had on the highway... these were a marked improvement in grip on the pavement. These are my 1st set of skinny tires, which might be a factor. However, the deep tread death and generous sipes are noteworthy features. While too small to float I have been impressed with the ability to maintain traction in 6+ inches of snow on inclined unmaintained roads...

Put these on just before Montana winter kicked in. I just retired the Hankook Dynapro tires that were almost new when I bought my truck (245/75R16). They were not bald, but beyond my traction needs in the mountains. Stepping up to the Cooper Discovery Stronghold AT (235/85R16) has been a confidence inspiring change. These are not true winter tires but have performed admirably in the fresh mountain snow and most recently in the 8-10 inch accumulation we just had on the highway. 4WD is not an idiot pass on snow/ice covered roads, but these were a marked improvement in grip on the pavement. These are my 1st set of skinny tires, which might be a factor. However, the deep tread death and generous sipes are noteworthy features. While too small to float I have been impressed with the ability to maintain traction in 6+ inches of snow on inclined unmaintained roads.

If you on considering these tires I would HIGHLY recommend.

I cover a generous amount of highway miles. Both interstate and state route highways living in Montana. These are proving to be a great combination of road manners and off pavement traction. Running the dogs in the winter mountains is an enjoyable adventure again. The Hankook tires may have been slightly quieter when newer but cannot compare in traction on loose or slick surfaces. Well done Cooper.

This has been an amazing tire so far! Cooper has been good to me in the past, and this tire is even better than previous. Very quiet, and great traction in snow! I tow 5-6k frequently . 12k miles on them with regular rotations and they look new yet. Buy with confidence.

Bought and installed right before an ice storm. Was amazed at the traction these have on ice and snow. Even if i wanted them to slip/spin, they grabbed more than any of my previous sets of A/T, or M/T's. With the mileage warranty on these, it makes it that much better. Great grip in mud as well. Hard surface driving is smooth and predictable. Fantastic all around tire for light truck or suv. 100% recommend this to anyone for a mixed use tire

...feel very good on dry pavement, steering is right on, no feeling of drifting on turns

So far very impressed with my Cooper Discover Stronghold AT 275/65R20 only have 400 miles on them, quite on the road noise, after about 60MPH I do hear some road noise but really nothing, feel very good on dry pavement,
steering is right on, no feeling of drifting on turns, tires are 5lbs less then the Maxxis Razr AT tire so I’m hoping for better MPG still reads the same
They balanced very nice the tech told me, mounted on Impact Off Road 829 Rims. No rain or snow or off-road use yet, but I’ll get there.
The looks are very impressive, also very aggressive tread, side wall pattern looks great too.
2022 Ram 1500 Laramie 2” level kit, S&B CAI, MBRP Exhaust
Update after 2000 miles tires still very impressive, up north in UP MI, gravel roads, soft sandy roads, muddy roads these tires grab very will no slipping at all, rainy roads spot on traction handled
All this condition in 2-wheel drive. Highway speeds 70-75mph in the rain grabbed the road great when accelerating no slipping, hooked up well. MPG still about the same

I waited until we had snow to review this tire and have been able to now drive in dry, wet, and snowy conditions...It handles impacts well, I was worried it would be a firmer riding tire, but it absorbed the minor bumps with minimal feedback...I had no issues driving in the wet and was confident in braking and lane changing...I am a sporty driver, and I know this is a truck but it handles any maneuvering I do with ease...So far very happy with the tire, road noise is minimal, handles well in all conditions.
